This is EXACTLY how high school marching bands should perform. No props, just musicality, actual marching, period. Love this performance and will enjoy our first season with them in 2024.

Thank you for always recording these amazing bands. I look forward to Longview’s performances every year because of the big sound they often create, and this year they definitely delivered on that. Let’s go Lobos! That baritone section deserves recognition, that part on Gladiator’s Farewell is so high in the beginning but they played it very well. Nice!

I was a French Horn player in this performance. Maaaaaaan, those runs on the trio of Boys of the Old Brigade were tough, but it'll always be a fond memory for me

Always one of my favorite bands in my favorite part of the state - Region 21. This is one of the best Lobo bands in several years. The playing was crisp and clean and the marching was very precise with no noticeable errors. Congratulations to all involved on an outstanding performance.

I was first chair alto sax in the Texas High School marching band 1980-1983 from Texarkana, TX. And although Texas High was a pretty good band, Longview was just amazing back then and continues to be 42 years later. So glad they are still military style and that the Drum Majorettes actually march with the band rather than stand on the sidelines. No way could TH ever master the drills this band is capable of...amazing. Congratulations Longview from a old rival in East TX.

I randomly went searching for this to see if today’s Lobos had caved to non-military style. Nope. Happy to see this. I marched in this band in 82 & 83. Trumpet. It was intense then with corporal punishment on the spot (paddles) for mistakes either in position or music after a certain deadline. It was no joke.

@@DChookem82 I do not recollect that. I want to say I was 3rd or 4th chair so I would think that would put me in that position. I moved to Greenville in 84 so I was for sure in the band in 83. I really don’t recall having to do that. My instrument was technically a cornet so perhaps that was a visual or tonal mismatch. To be honest I don’t recall having to break formation and I don’t remember others having to do it either.

@@DChookem82 I found the video of that. Once I saw it I remembered it. I didn’t remember peeling away from the group because they basically peeled away from us. Memory still fuzzy on that but what did jog my memory was the reinsertion. Marching back towards the full band and needing to reinsert while on the move was nerve wracking. That I do remember.

That first March they played….everyone in Longview for generations should know it by heart because this band has been using it non-stop for at least 50 years. Looking good as usual. But this band was much more disciplined and cleaner under John Kunkel in the 70s and 80s
