Longyearbyen is the largest settlement of Svalbard - an archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, constituting the northernmost part of Norway. The town had a population of over 2,000. It is the world’s northernmost town, and the northernmost settlement of any kind with greater than 1,000 permanent residents.
