Loni Love was rejected from "Girlfriends" because she was too overweight?! 

Girlfriends is a great show I think they pick the right people

Let’s not pretend that Hollyweird wasn’t mostly interested in skinny women in the 90s & early 2000s

I don't think Loni would have added anything to Girlfriends. Not because of her weight, but because she isn't funny (to me).

I honestly couldn’t see her fitting in on that show. The women on it had a connection imo and were the perfect 4!

I think that Girlfriends was cast perfectly. But I understand what she’s saying and I believe it’s true.

Hearing this actually made me instantly think of Monique, and realize how many *barriers* she broke 🙌🏾 She crossed over from being a successful Queen of Comedy, to a well-rounded actress. She’s had the stereotypical big girl roles, she’s had the funny roles, BUT she also had serious roles. She even garnered her own talk show. ALL while being a “big”, Black woman whom has never had to dumb down her personality and when it came down to it.. also, never dumbed down her integrity . I don’t think Monique gets the credit she deserves from the general public, and especially not the industry. Can we give Mo’ her flowers ? 💐🌷🌹🌺🌸🌼🌻💐

Yes, Monique was the only black full-figured woman on television but, they portrayed her as a black single mother who's chasing a man who doesn't want her

As a plus woman myself..Im so tired of her talking about her weight. She now has the resources to improve her weight and health. I know it can be difficult but girl!! Stop it! At this point its by choice. She wouldn't have been a good fit on that show anyway. Her brand of comedy I don't believe is a good representation of black women and that's putting it nicely. The Real actually presents her in a better light than she presents herself. So in the words of Mya...oh hell no! Girl Bye 🙄

Loni didn’t fit the mold regardless of her weight. She’s not relatable at all & doesn’t even seem like the girlfriend type. Something bout Loni’s spirit doesn’t sit right with me she seems low key shady. I just don’t see her on a show about sisterhood period. Bc shes always has to be the main voice in the room. She was terrible in Soul Plane albeit in a small role. Maybe she didn't get the part because she is just not a good actress. We gotta stop making excuses every time something doesn't go our way! Get better at your craft.

I couldn't see her fitting on the cast of Girlfriends. Not because of her size, but because of her personality. I feel like with Loni we're always waiting for her punchline. I don’t think she would fit in with that cast. It’s not even about weight. Loni has always appeared older than her age on screen. The ladies on Girlfriends were around the same age. Toni and Joan were childhood friends. Joan and Lynn went to college together. Loni Love did not read as a twenty something in 2000.

As a slender black girl I liked the representation. Seeing Black women who didn’t have big butts and breast, ate relatively healthy, and lived unique lives made me happy and actually feel normal being a healthy weight

...Not to stray off-topic, but Loni seems to have a lot of ”grudgeful” traits. I believe that she had a hand in getting Tamar removed from THE REAL because she felt threatened by her. She wanted to be the only ” comedian ” and also be the centre of attention (hence the reason she was sat in the middle )

Queen Latifah is no small girl and she usually lands roles where she is either a successful boss, or men are Lusting over her like in Bringing Down the House. I am not trying to dismiss Loni’s claims but there are other examples of positive images for larger black women out there.

Honestly, I wouldn't have liked her in Girlfriend's. She's not likeable as a person, and her acting is subpar.

I like Lonnie but I’m glad that girlfriends didn’t represent the stereotype of fat black women that are on welfare and baby mommas. These women were fit and pretty, and they had good jobs with the exception of Lynn but even she had several masters degrees. The physical attributes especially that the girlfriends cast had is how black women should be portrayed. And I’m an overweight woman saying this.

I struggled with my weight all my life I was always told I was to skinny a tooth pick a stick and tbh that really hurt me. When I was younger I used to put on 3 pairs of pants to look average size. I’m just getting my weight on track and I’m happy because now I know that you don’t have to be like everyone else to fit in Im different and that’s what I love about me

Of course people think she wouldn’t be a good fit. Fat black women (and fat women in general) can only play roles where we are desperate, the butt of the joke, or a mom nothing new. Unless you have been overweight you wont understand how people see us, you’ll just see it as normal. Skinny/average weight girls tell me all the time when they first met me they thought they wouldn’t like me. One person was truthful enough to say she doesn’t usually get along with bigger girls because she doesn’t like how they act. But y’all can keep pretending that they based her just off of her acting skills and weight had no factor in her not getting chosen. None of those girls on that show are really that funny either, that’s where the script that someone else writes comes in. 🤯

I personally dont find a problem with that. Matter of fact we need more shows that present black women that way. Black girls aren’t always overweight and desperate. Not saying that Loni is desperate but we all know if she was casted that is the kind of character she would have been forced to portray. I don’t have any problem with big women i’m a big girl myself, but im in the process of changing that because i want to be healthier.

Loni Love always has a story about someone mistreating her but never about the things she’s done to other ppl

People are getting mad that others are saying that she wouldn't be a good fit based off of personality. It does happen at times, she probably wouldn't be a good fit. An example the original Charmed, the actresses worked well together on screen but off the screen they really didn't get along. Specifically Alyssa and Shannon did not get along and that's why Shannon didn't return in Season 4. Then there's the Golden Girls, apparently Bea Arthur didn't get along with Betty White at times. Plus wasn't there a rumor that Bernie Mac and Steve Harvey did not get along? But they did the original kings of comedy. So yes personality does come into play.

That never stopped Angie Stone, Jill Scott, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Monique from making appearances on the show

Girlfriends casts couldn’t have been more perfect. Sorry Loni but weight sometimes has a tendency to make you look older and I think she could’ve probably played on of the ladies Aunties, but she did not fit the cast at all.

She said it like there aren’t cliques or groups of friends where every one of them are slim or light-skinned or all have natural hair or whatever the case might be. Life isn’t always as diverse as we might like to believe. And side note: Kevin James’ character on King of Queens was always the butt of jokes about his weight and was very stereotypical.

Only bigger black women would get this. I've been bigger, smaller and the average size. I definitely got treated differently when I was bigger. It's just a fact, especially since white men run the industry. The cast was amazing in the show, but I know exactly what she's talking about.

I'm so sick of big and thick woman making comments about skinny woman like we asked to be at the forefront. I understand something's aren't or weren't accessible for them but dang really you shouldn't be mad at us. (Im 20) I was bashed for my weight all my life by men and woman. I've sat with my older sisters and heard them laugh at me when someone made comments like that. But I've always defended them when someone bashed them for being big. Just because woman on the TV got praised doesn't mean the rest of us did.

To be honest, Loni is not that talented, she's the least funny on the show even though she's a comedian, i gave her stand up a shot and was like this 😐🙄 for 10 minutes, didn't even chuckle, she doesn't have the smarts to really articulate the points she is trying to make during segments, she tried to get her own show for years and often mentions that she had a contract before the other girls but i could never see her headlining anything or be the main draw that would get people to tune into anything, nothing to do with her being obese she's just not that girl! Mo'Nique, Oprah, Melissa McCarthy, the girl from This Is Us, Amber Riley, Gabby Sidibé, Rosie O'Donnell, they don't get the opportunities skinny women get but they all have an actual talent to market. However her point about 'Girlfriends' and women on primetime tv is valid.

It’s like, I see where she’s going with this but the way she articulates things is so low vibrational and self loathing. Something about her I don’t like. AND in Hollywood you’re going to get a million no’s before a yes. So looking at the cast who made it like they got everything handed to them for being skinny is unfair and childish.
