Even in 1962, when this Look at Life was made and being shown in cinemas, it was realised that the ultimate aim of the founders of the Common Market was to turn it into the United States of Europe.

I remember seeing this Special Edition Look At Life (nearly 18 minutes instead of the usual 9) at the cinema in August, 1962. As can be heard about 14 minutes in, the politicians ultimate goal for the Common Market was a United States of Europe. So they knew it even in 1962, eleven years before we in the UK joined.

99% of the European government was men, women hardly in evidence at all. I wonder if the founders had any idea what was going to happen once they added member countries accessible from Africa and the Middle East? 2000 civil servants even back then, I wonder how many there are now.

Now the french president says he's not going to boot foreign criminals out and revoke their froggie citizenship. The EU won't be happy until they've turned the whole of itself into a multiculti dump. Where I live in England they're doing a good job of that too. Go out of my front door, and you will probably hear a foreign language before English. Not to mention all the Jeremy Kyle style chavs...

And here we are in 2020 reviewing superb snapshots of the EU history and its vision. And realising the failings this eutopic view then has become now. The Italian car industry dead, the United states of Europe unable and unwilling to support COVID overwhelmed member states, those much praised barriers or lack of them all dropped whe the pandemic arrived. The happy clappy club that is the EU reverted back to self governing independence as they sought to look after "their own". The UK moves closer to removing itself from this stranglehold of a monopoly, much maligned and abused for responding to a massive democratic vote to leave. Notably the highest turnout of the electorate in British history, and with the biggest majority. Not a fact the idiot #fbpe brigade of abusers prefer to discuss, they prefer calling us fascists and Nazis. Incredible abuse all for using my vote. 30th June 2020 see's the UK effectively leave the EU. It is broken and only time will tell whether it can recover and actually share its wealth & trade opportunities to all its members.

Meanwhile, here in Britain, we wage through two world wars, see millions dead and then spend billions in reconstruction and developing a new infrastructure. We also invest thousands of man hours and many years into peace negotiations and trade agreemeents, to become a founding member of a united Europe, without barriers and without confliction. Years later, we elect a self-serving Prime Minister called Cameron, who guides the nation into a referendum called Brexit, where we literally take a century of political upheaval and throw the whole lot back into the face of all those who toiled, fought and died so that Europe might remain united in solidarity. But not to worry. The UK government has since hired the former PM as the Secretay of State, so he can represent the UK in Europe. You couldn't make it up. The GREAT BRITAIN you see in the Look at Life videos made 60+ years ago, is long, long gone....

I remember seeing a programme on the telly years ago, they showed an old reel-to-reel tape player playing Ted Heath's thoughts on this Common Market. One passage sticks in my mind " The Public must NEVER know what this could lead to" Says it all really. Treacherous sods. When I go out of my front door now, I can be 90% certain the first words I will hear won't be English. They'll be from Eastern Europe. Followed one tonight ,obviously pissed as a fart, driving his Romanian registered car. He was all over the road. His brake lights didn't work. Marvellous. Then we get the EU court telling us we can't kick foreign criminals or terrorists out as its "against their yuman rites innit".
@stewartellinson8846
@stewartellinson8846 5 лет назад
Except that's NOT the EU court; that's the European court of human rights, which is separate form the EU, and nothing to do with the European court of justice, a mostly trade based body. The UK helped to set up the European court of human rights as it came out of the council of Europe, founded in 1949. Most people who support leave never bother to learn the difference.

The silver lining of the Euro fiasco was the fall of the Berlin wall. Eastern Europeans are savvy and know exactly what's going on in 2021 - they can smell BS before we do because they were subjected to it under communism. Most Eastern Europeans are an example of what decent people were like in Western Europe before the EU rot set in.

I have stopped this video at 9-26 ... here is the factual account from a U.K./G.B. perspective. Our governments from the early 1960s tried to join all the way up to 1973 when we did join the European Economic Community the "E.E.C." now the E.U. in the 2016 referendum, the "little englanders" got what they wanted ... "little england!"

If the project had remained a free common market and not destined to be come a 'super-state', maybe all would have been well. At the time, the UK was concerned to retain the tariff-free status of the Commonwealth. When we eventually joined, it meant for instance, imposing tariffs on New Zealand produce thus creating big financial difficulties for their relatively small economy. With regard to 'ever closer union', the moulding of individual nations into a mega state is a frightening prospect. It would put enormous power in the hands of very few people; the famous novel 1984 is set in such a society and should be an awful warning to us all. Be careful what you wish for!
