Those were the days, a cold draught up your trouser legs from the pedal holes, rattles from almost everything in the cab and frozen finger tips, just looking forward to summer and one brown arm, sitting in an oven with that little air vent sucking in diesel fumes, I’m now deaf from the engine noise, bad knee from the clutch, arthritis in the shoulder from the gearbox, and I wouldn’t have changed it for all the bacon sandwiches in the world.

I too, used to go with my father on the lorry during the summer holidays from 2010 to 2017 when I was in school, until Health and Safety got involved and put an end to that. I know that going on the lorry is not as good as it was back then, but I was so depressed when they stopped me, as well as other lads going. Only for going on the lorry with my father, I would have visited nowhere. I would still rather be back in the 1970's to the 1990's (despite how bad things people say they were (Nowadays is worse)).

Mr.D1980 Had a similar incident but got around it by standing in the dark cold street waiting for him to come out of the yard and if he saw another wagon from the same company I used to duck down ,this would be 1969 or 70 , Smedleys foods,Farnworth , Parker’s Transport Bolton, British Road Services also Bolton . Great times and anywhere from Portsmouth,London ,up to the Lakes ,Newcastle,Scotland , Once jumped out to ask directions and collapsed as it was that cold in the cab my legs froze😂😂👍

@@ronniebiggs4026 I could sneak onto the lorry, the only problem is that there's cameras all over the cab so the transport manager would know I was there and it could cause my father to get the sack. At least back then, there was no camera's in the cab of the lorry, so you get away with it.

On one particular morning I had a 2nd Bacon Sandwich and the Cafe Owner didn’t charge My Father for it. I will always remember the Cafe Owner Saying how good it was to see his Bacon Sandwich being “really appreciated”. I quite often demonstrate to my students the flammability of petrol to my students with a cigarette... it makes for a nice laugh in what is a course that is otherwise boring as bat crap. first, I take them outside and I pour some fuel into a bucket, then I scare the crap out of them, by lighting up a cigarette and throwing it straight into the liquid after a few puffs. does it explode or burn? no, because it's the gasses and fumes that are flammable not the actual liquid.
