8:12 the spaghetti code is the 12 year old engine that arrowhead had to revive from the dead to make this game. The actual creators of the engine don't even actively support it anymore so they had to essentially reverse engineer it to work on newer systems
Why would they do this instead of making a new engine or using a preexisting available one like source/havok/unreal/cryengine/snowdrop/levolution/unity/frostbite etc (I know most of these are not open, I just wanted to pad the comment)
@gabehere The dev team was most familiar with it and I guess development was started before support for the engine was cut, there's an ign article on it if you look up "helldivers 2 old engine"
Can’t find the article but the found out about it TWO YEARS into development. Instead of going back to the drawing board, they decided to just push through with the engine.
Helldivers 2 is what revived my love for deep rock. Like the devs in helldivers have that annoying "we hate meta so much we make bad game design decisions" mindset. And deep rock dev mindset is "the game should be fun"
@@freshlymemed5680 yup, why hamstring players with nerfs when, ya know, they can actually have fun using the guns and playing the game lol DSG just does so much more shit right while not losing their vision in the slightest.
Ngl that's genuinely a skill issue flat out. If you need some far superior meta weapons to win then you're bad. Those weapons are stronger than the devs intended so they give either nerfs to ammo or sometimes stats. Play a lower difficulty, no shame in it if you cannot handle higher difficulties.
@@jasoncp3257 no. It's been proven with multiple videos that the weapons they're nerfing are the only ones adequate for the job. Also, "just play on lower difficulties" is a dumb statement. It's like saying "just ignore the map" when someone complains about a Ubisoft game. I guarantee you've only played on difficulty 5 or less 💀
@@komplex6081Thats like development 101? Changing numbers takes seconds, making something new takes a whole development process which involves a whole team.
@@S0n0fG0D I play on helldive difficulty and sometimes super helldive and I assure you it's 1. Not supposed to be a sweep you do every time 2. Not that hard with the changes. I've managed to complete every gamemode on helldive difficulty and it's always a case of bringing appropriate strategems and gear. Bug nests, bring maneuvering gear like the jump pack or a expauit and close holes asap. Eggs, use barrages, 500kg bombs, a jump pack or shield, and a flamethrower. ICBM, use whatever you want really. Extract VIP, use napalm, smoke grenades, flamethrowers, commandos or eat. Flag, use an exosuit, use flamethrowers and use some kind of turret or mine. Some strategems and weapons are bot ones, like smoke strategems, high penetration rifles, shield generators, shield backpacks. It purley, purley comes down to, use something different than some meta bs. You choose what you like that works. My mate uses mortar turrets on defence missions, I use napalm because it hits underbellys and denys little bugs survival so larger bug can be priorities by the rest of the team. On eggs I always use the jump pack, 380mm, walking barrage and 500kg, as I use a flamethrower primary to remove any eggs left as I tend to be the ones clearing the main objective while others collect samples and do side objectives. I've done this without personally dying at all on helldive a few times, clearing all 3 egg nests and extracting. Alot of helldivers 2 players never played 1. You're supposed to be expendable as a helldiver.
@@cabnbeeschurgr6440 Honestly The autocannon mech is a must on high tier bots because its the only way to get a foothold on the map without wasting like 4 stratagems. Sure tank cannons can destroy them but nothing clears entire armies of devastators like the autocannon mech. Having one dude running it and just knowing when to use it can save games as it can kill basically anything aside from the ATATs. But even then it can wear down the armor a good chunk.
I'm not going to really disagree with you guys and I'm also not going to totally agree either. It's just random ships and drop offs are so random and hard to calculate that if you fuck up your timing once with the mech? Psshhhh... hope you have enough lives to wait 5+min (depending on stratagem cool down effect mind you) to be able to call it back in. The thing is, I just feel like there's way better options with much faster cooldowns and viability. Though on defensive missions I will say mechs still slap if you know what you're doing. I really don't want this thread to end up with arguements I mean at the end of the day we all have our own builds and team builds I'm just concerned that one day 4 divers will all have to wear the same armor, use the same guns and stratagems, because it's the only way to consistently have a 70% chance of the mission going well. Hey I mean honestly, if the mech came with a blowtorch or wrench that you could hop out and heal (or maybe resupply some ammo by calling in the ship that drops it off with slightly less of the cooldown or something?) The mech I would feel much better about using the slot for mechs on higher difficulties. Until then I'll be focusing on viability, mobility, and stratagems like the backpack and Anti Material Rifle so if anything goes wrong with RNG I don't have to wait 5+ minutes and feel bad about a wrong call that now my teammates have to pick up the slack for. I want to finish by saying I don't think anyone in this thread is wrong, but I think we all know a few things could use a little tweaking at the very least. I know in time this game could grow and evolve into a completely new experience and that's what I'm holding on for. May you all thrive, and keep the dive alive boys 💚
What would be amazing is if they added weapon upgrades! In HellDivers 1 they had an upgrade system that would play into the weapons damage, mag count etc. It would be sick to have to progress to improve the weapon YOU like!
Its literally the abysmall gun balance thats holding the game back, "use your stratagems" they say as you drop in planets with stratagem cooldown and call in extenders.
This. Also something fun? Welp oh man it got nerfed in the next patch. Anything fun is considered a “crutch” now. Even when it literally isn’t. Anything that isn’t useless or was nerfed into being useless is a “crutch”. This dev team constantly malds over people beating the highest difficulties…when they can’t even run SIX during their showings. Their constant drama with their audience (mostly on discord/Reddit cuz of course🙄)and the game always breaking again after a patch made me leave this game LONG ago. I got my over 150 hours during the tumultuous 1st two months and never looked back. Dang shame cuz it could’ve been the new DRG imo.
@@KingOfhearts72I’m at 310hrs currently and couldn’t agree more, I’ll come back once or twice a week and play a match then move on to another game, I’m looking forward to Space Marine 2 as that will most likely overtake helldivers for me.
I may be a little boiled, but I still don't understand why everyone calls this some kind of cardinal sin, they nerfed two way op weapons and buffed several more back into the very fun zone.
@@shoelacedobby3819 look man. we need to talk. primary weapons suck. theres to many enemys for my way to thin ammo supply for guns that feel like nerf guns. i stopped playing because i get tired of all my weapons sucking. sure the game may float along for years to come. but it will never get back to what it was at the start. FUN.
Doom will save you (as long as it isn't delayed to 2025) SM1 wasn't special for it's time, and with SM2 being leaked, it's the same thing with updates.
"The grind is a little ridiculous" The main problem with the game is you unlock everything at level 25 and have nothing to do from 25-150 other than master the game and grow to hate people.
😂 sounds like my experience playing WoW. It was an eye opening experience into the world of mental illness. It scares me at night knowing what kinds of people share this planet.
ngl, HD1 had a similar issue with people running out of 'quick content' so to speak. No sense gatekeeping all the content you're adding in a PvE game about killing bugs and cyborgs, eh?
honestly this video perfectly encapsulates modern helldivers i feel. the game is still super fun at times, but the bugs and crashes are unreal. i actually haven't experienced many myself, but some of the bugs like the one for months where stimming would cancel your teammates sprint was so unbelievable cause it would happen EVERY TIME. but i will say i experience the performance issues too. an rtx 3060 speaks for itself although it might not be the newest top of the line its still pretty good at running most games i play at 4k 60 fps or 1080P more realistically. but the big stinker for me personally is the buffs. i think that they will continue to nerf the guns and fan favorites until the game dies or it doesn't ever fully die out and the devs keep this toxic trait going. or they do the opposite and buff a bunch of stuff, do a LOT of bug fixing and optimization and the game could genuinely thrive. maybe the devs just don't understand it cause they could hardly play their own game, but maybe they don't know that we don't need new content we just want the game to feel fun again. it even says on the cover "kill hoards of enemies with overpowered weapons". or something a long the lines of that. i think the way to handle this is to make the guns (and your general armory as a helldiver) powerful again, maybe not like the railguns former glory but somewhere near it, and then increase the difficulty of the higher difficulties a lot more. that way the games difficulty could actually be fun because its a bit more chaotic, and all the weapons still feel usable in most scenarios. but tell me what you guys think.
The zan clan is one of my favorite communities on youtube. Eveyone gets the memes and the references. Like all of us have been here for years. Love this place.
They really shouldn't have added "realism" into describing the fix, but I do understand the nerf, lol. It is just phases through Charger leg armour and damaging flesh directly. But that was one enemy specifically that had that problem. They should've just fixed that instead of changing how fire works, but I honestly didn't notice any difference except for the fact you can't easily kill Chargers anymore. All the new guns are great and many guns also got buffed by the new patch. Kinda irritated Zanny didn't even mentioned any of it, like most of the people whining, lol
@@Brother_O4TS armor irl unless it is spacecraft armor doesn’t protect against heat. Flamethrowers can be used against tanks to kill the crew inside and blow up the engine. For bugs a flamethrowers heat would go right through the carapace and cook whatever’s inside. There is no point in defending the devs when they haven’t even thought of it this hard and we both did. They simply nerfed them before the warbond so the guns won’t be too fun and reliable, because why would a gun need to be reliable, or a game fun?
Basically, playing the guardsmen from 40k, everyone dying left and right - zanny being the commisar that hands out the emperor's mercy. Lmao, dying in droves for super earth.
