Thanks for the flip through. Did you end up completing the unit? Did your son like/dislike the unit? It looks interesting, just not completely sure if it's too repetitive in the assignments. Also, reading a story that takes you through the parks instead of just learning the parks seems different.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the concept of pairing a novel with the studies. We have My Side of the Mountain and I was trying to figure out if we should buy the novel study or not but I kinda like the idea of just pairing it with this unit. We are trying to decide between this unit and sports+pe next 😅
I do too and I think they are going to work beautifully together. I have to be honest and say that we got a little bored with Sports + PE and we stopped after lesson 6. Your family may love it though.
Would you have any look insides for Year 4 by chance ? Haven’t gotten any of those yet but was curious how they’re structured Year 2 and 3 got very wordy for my son so we stepped away from it but I’m reintroducing them now that he’s older with modifications
We haven't used much Gather Round in our homeschool this year. My oldest started the Challenge program with CC and that has been a great fit for her. My youngest two are too young for GR (working at prek level) and I started feeling like the lessons were very cumbersome and hard to get through (especially for just teaching 1 out of my 4 kids), so we stopped. We did do Vikings at the beginning of this year and then I intended to do Middle Ages but ended up just letting my oldest, who is a history buff, read the unit "for fun". haha. I haven't bought a unit since. I am kinda sad. GR was a breath of fresh air for my homeschool when my girls were at the early/upper elem ages, and then I just felt like it wasn't working for us anymore, so we have moved on to other things. I love Rebecca & what she stands for and I am sad that she is currently under such fire (I am honestly not 100% sure what is going on since I am not on social media - I just got the email the other day where she explained a bit) however, I do think that maybe it would have been better to take more time producing units. The idea is FABULOUS but the end product of some of the units is just "information overload". I guess some people don't mind that but I would rather dive deeper into topics rather than dip our toes into so many things in one unit/topic! I wish Rebecca & GR the best! I hope the business continues to prosper in spite of recent attacks.
I am happy to hear that CC is working out. That is a a challenging program. We have only completed one Gather Round unit this year. We have been busy with Campfire units.
The new story format is interesting......I was almost thinking of getting this unit but only using the lessons as we plan to go to the national park....but with the story format im not sure that would work skipping around. Appreciate you sharing this.
What are your thoughts about what Campfire curriculums has put out about this companies use of inaccurate sources and getting factual information completely wrong? like Jimmy Carter already dying, when he's still alive....
