I remember when I worked at a landscape place (I worked at the retail space of it, rarely went out to job sites). My manager one day tells me to hook up a trailer and take it to the bottom of the hill and park it with the other trailers. I protested, telling him that I cannot back a trailer up to save my life. He yelled at me to "just f-king do it. It isn't that hard!" I said, okay, but I will not be responsible for any damages done. So, I hooked it up and did my best to back it in and.....tore off three valve stems off tires from getting it too close. Went back up, told my boss we now had 2 trailers out of commission because of the valve stem issues, and we needed to get 3 tires from 2 different trailers off and sent in for repair. Of course, he blew up, I called one of the on site managers to let him know what was going on, he said okay, he had a crew that was finishing up and would send them in to get the tires off. My manager was fired a few weeks later due to the number of complaints against him.

Some one in his family should have been bold enough to take charge and take over.

If you're gonna drink, have a DD(captain). This is one of those times when you think . . . "wish there was an officer now".

I think you missed the point. When he said that he wasn't sure if it was due to intoxication or some medical situation. He even said as such. He was in no way condoning nor dismissive of that mans condition. JS

In Canada it is illegal to drink while boating, same as a motor vehicle operator. Fines are same as road DUI.

Could be heatstroke. Capt looked quite burned. The family probably thought getting him cooled down (long after arriving at the dock) would be enough, rather that bearing the cost of getting medical attention, at the dock. Isn't American healthcare great? Greatest country for sure... 😢

very doubtful actually; I see so many drunk/impaired operators with the harbor police, coast guard just watching, doing nothing UNTIL theres an accident. boating laws relating to recreational boaters are just plain ignored and seldom enforced in the gulf of mexico area anyway.

There are 300,000,000+ people in this country. Alcohol is legal and sold practically everywhere you go. I suspect that for every one person caught driving under the influence, there are probably 50 people that didn't get caught. Enforcing a DUI law doesn't really make a difference. The equivalent of removing one grain of sand from the entire beach.

Yes it is the same. Driving a boat drunk will get you a DUI.

The ramp near me had the same situation, but the drunk was alone and couldn’t back his trailer up. After a 911 call from a bystander, he was given a free ride. Just not home!

Same here, there is usually some officers at the larger, busier docks, if an officer would have seen him they would have arrested him.

So you don't have scenes like that in New England? Then why is your law enforcement so prevalent at the docks and on the water? If you didn't have scenes like that at some point there would be no need for that kind of LE presence. JS IMHO
