I actually used to working at Apple processing plant truth is they do put a wax coating on apples it is to make them appear shiny and lucious in the stores for you to buy and choose over other brands... the place I work for it was called Lake Ontario fruit in Albion New York. Look it up

It is basic paraffin wax. A food grade petroleum wax that is in lots of candy bars and used as an air resistant coating to extend the shelf life of fruit since it is usually trucked thousands of miles. Supposedly safe to eat but better to use an appropriate fruit and veggie cleaner or hot water to melt the wax off. No real conspiracy. They have been doing this for well over 60 years in America. Just plain old ignorance of where your food comes from. Also can buy blocks of paraffin wax in the canning section of stores.

Think how fast an apple turns brown after being cut. Wax is also artificially reapplied after cleaning for the same reason.
