Hi this is Paul from Fhutowurks, I recently came back into the M43 and its really a very fun system to use. The micro four thirds system is just excellent because of its incredible easy to carry factor and frankly great image quality. I hadn’t used it in quite a while but to be honest, because its so portable and the the GM5 being insanely small, it puts the fun into photography. Hope you enjoy this video. Please subscribe, like and comment.
BTW I am filming on G100 with the video. The G100 is a great piece of kit.

I think GM series are/were brilliant and if you can source one grab it. Yes the technology is dated and old hat but there are advantages to both the GM1 and GM5 I'm fortunate to have both and as the man says capable of some great results. My reason for buying the GM1 is as a keen kayaker I needed something tiny but capable of great results that I could store in my cag breast pocket the GM1 fitted the bill perfectly, my reason for getting a GM5 was because sometimes when photographing on the water glare would be an issue prevent me seeing the viewing screen and therefore the need for the viewfinder. Another advantage I find with my GM1 is because it's orange no one sees it as a serious camera and when photographing people they tend to ignore it.

Hey I agree and love the GM5 and GM1, I have both and there is nothing like them out there, Seriously I wish panasonic or OM digital would work on a project like that again with new sensor. The G100 is pretty close the idea,but its still considerably larger (while being quite compact by today’s standards). The GM series has a great look about the images they produce, . I take these cameras with me during my bike rides as it fits nicely into by bike shirt on the back. I tend to carry the little kit lens or the 14 and 40 lens. I do have the 15 but its not as pancake. I would love to find an orange or red camera body from the GM’s. My GM5 is looking more user condition these days, which is fine because its not going anywhere. I have since sold of the g100 because the video just pulses too much and doesn’t hold focus. As a stills camera its great.

In 2024 the GM5 is still sought after. It is a unique camera. Highly recommend one. As said here the G100 is a modern GM5. Better sensor, slightly bit bigger. If you like the GM5 there's no reason not to get a G100. To me the only downside of the G100 is that it lacks a top back dial (which the GM5 has). They say you have to use the back wheel for this, but not the same.

I still love to use my gm5; although the view finder LCD is starting to fail. So many people want small cameras again I hope Panasonic brings them back.

@@paullefko You will find second hand GM5 at MPB from time to time. You should maybe get a second one.

I have both the GM5 and GX85 and each are excellent cameras. I consider both of them my poor-man's Leicas. I have the Panasonic 12-32mm on the GM5, and the Pan/Leica 15mm on the GX85. I have gotten outstanding images from both!

The gx85 is a really nice piece of kit, it’s simple And smallish. It does have some heft. I picked up a hard to find GM5, now thats a small light camera.

Yeah I'm still on m43 because my fav lenses are the 60mm macro and 100-300 zoom. Nothing on apsc or full frame can compete with these. Im been on gx85 for years. I just want a upgrade that can do 4k60
@paullefko
@paullefko 3 года назад
@@Yoko.Kurama I really like what M43 brings to the table, I actually just got a GM1 and GM5 recently, These give very good and unique look and I can only wish for a newer model like these. People are shunning M43 but it's a mistake, especially for travel and documentary work. M43 along with other smaller cameras can free you to tell a story better. From a tech perspective, Panasonic really has to improve their m43 autofocus and sensor game as social media really demands video these days, video keeps people on the platform longer

I really wanted to get the g100 for vlogging, but the Lack of IBIS killed it for me. Why they thought that wasn't important is beyond me. I have way too many manual and Olympus lenses with no optical stabilizer, and digital just sucks to much and unusable. Ended up deciding on the gx85 for that reason alone. IBIS is seriously a game changer, and adding a gymbal to the g100 would kind of kill the whole portability/pocket ability of it.
@fhutowurks
@fhutowurks 2 года назад
After some time now, I can tell you that for vlogging that g100 is not the greatest of choice. The sensor is really pretty good, but your right on the IS is missing for a walk and talk, the Electronic stabilization is kinda ok but it crops in for electronic stabilization just like the Sony ZV-1. The Gx 85 is good camera, its surprisingly heavy for its size. But like the G100, I found the autofocus hunting missing too much. I did pick up a G9 a few months ago and its far better with IS then Gx85 that I had for many years and the G100. Getting back to Vlogging, So long as you have great sound the video doesn't have to be in the realm of cinema. I have a Sony Zv-1 because the focus issues of the lumix's; Sony ZV1 is great for holding you in focus, its small compact, light weight. I am not a fan of retractable lenses but it is what it is. But it does hold focus and it does expose for the face. The sony is color is just not as nice nor is the rolloff, but its a vlog and being in focus and having a reasonably good image is what ya need in the end. The G100 although was great at photos for me, it was awful with autofocus and it blew it on one my interviews at Trek Bikes. The G9 is much more reliable. I will have to an update at some point. For all the cameras I have and had, OM and Lumix cams are still some of my favs. Please let know how you get on with GX85 - its a great piece of kit, really underrated as photographic tool for sure.

The GM line is awesome. I also like the 14 2.8 because its even smaller and the image quality is great. I wish Panasonic would revive the line with a newer sensor and normal flash sync. The 1/50th of second is a bummer

The evf of the GM5 is ok for framing, the g85 is decent and definitely better than the GM5, the g100 evf is good.

How’s the autofocus if the gm5 , is it compatible to the Sony a6000? I had a Ricoh griii but it frustrates the hell out of me . I have pro bodies but I want a capable pocket camera and I’m loosing my mind trying to find one .
@paullefko
@paullefko 2 года назад
So it took me a while to find one and it’s was in user condition. I tried the gr3 too in the shop, I really didn’t care for it because it felt slow, but I’ve used it for real on the street. Autofocus of the gm5 is good enough. It’s not a sports camera. If your using the 20mm 1.7 , we’ll that lens is slow. But the 12-60, the 12-34, 14, 15, 45 1.8, 50-200 etc it’s all good. If I can find a other GM5 I would buy it.

So Is the G7 better than the G100 And the G85 better than the G100? But G85 better than the G7? G85>G7>G100
@paullefko
@paullefko 3 года назад
I depends on use I suppose. I like the g100 size
@JensMHA
@JensMHA 3 года назад
Depends on intended usage, I think. The G7 has the 16Mp sensor with the AA filter still in place, no stabilizer. The G100 has the current 20Mp sensor but only has stabilizing for video, the G85 has the 16Mp sensor without AA filter and stabilizer, but duller LVF, something it shares with the G7. I just finger oogled the G7 in a shop, and went for the GX8 instead due to stabilizing, LVF and weatherproofing. At this day and age, I wouldn't bother with a G7, unless it was very cheap and I couldn't afford one of the others. Am somewhat intrigued by the G100, due to its size and even without stabilizer, it is of the current generation cameras, but again, intended use and budget would be the deciding factor. The G100 seems to be on rather hefty rebates here and there, depending on where you are located this summer, at prices around $500 with that tripod grip thingy and the 12-32. That I think is rather good value for money.
