MJF isn't capable of a 5 star match. He's been one-dimensional and a one trick pony from day ONE. He's always good to run his yap on a mic. To use vulgarity, profanity, flaunt immaturity, and get personal with promos. But he can't back it up with even remotely credible believable technical wrestling or badass tough guy violence. He just isn't a great wrestler. He is known for talking, NOT wrestling...> He is vastly overrated in the existence of aew. Yes he is the MOST over, but when you consider all the bland boring generic or laughable comedy act talent being shoved down your throats every show from aew, you could surmise that there isn't much in the way of "competition" for mjf in actual wrestling impact or being "over". 95% of the roster isn't even over. Fans don't even know who the hell to cheer for and consequently most faces are booed and most heels are cheered there...> Enough said...>

It also doesn't help that they are trying to cater to a very small, very niche, hardcore subsection of the fandom. You can't rely on the IWC smarks for long and that well will dry up eventually.

And you and nearly every negative commenter I see misses the point of why there's just so much defense - scroll along on any thread anywhere and all you'll see is complete hyperbole on the "criticisms" of AEW. "there's ZERO storylines" someone says down below...pretending that Swerve/Hangman, MJF/anybody, Copeland/House of Black, Orange Int. Title reign, etc. don't exist. "they only push old WWE guys".....yet many champions have never set foot there nor does it even matter someone's spent a drop of time there (Malakai, Toni, Shawn Spears) "Their wrestling is TRASH"....I don't even want to get into how stupid this one is What do any of y'all think is gonna happen when something is being attacked this way with an onslaught of complete falsities and ignorant narratives being spewed ad nauseum daily? People are going to return fire at the same level. Actual people working there are going to give blanket statements addressing shit like this because it's become so insane across all levels of trash talk that that's all they can do. An if you think AEW will be around in 20 years with the current ratings and ticket sales you're wrong. Not saying they need to be WWE but they need help and not people pretending everything is ok

There's no proof that it was the Bucks that started those rumors in the first place and Hangman's actions were IN RESPONSE to those rumors. As far as we know; Hangman actually got worked by these rumors and was simply sticking up for a friend. What about those rumors that it was Punk's camp who allegedly leaked the Jack Perry glass story to the dirt sheets to make Perry look bad?

Sean Ross Sapp, Andrew Zarian, and Mike Jones have all pretty much confirmed what Meltzer said that it wasn't the Bucks. I just find it hilarious how people ASSUME it was the Bucks just because they have such a hate boner for them. Especially when it was them who were saying during AEW's inception how much they would love to work with Punk and were pushing hard to convince Tony Khan to sign him. It was also the Bucks (and Cody) who initially texted Punk about the prospects of maybe talking business. Punk flew off the handle about that apparently and blasted them publicly because he felt he deserved more than that. So you guys mean to tell me that the Bucks convinced Tony Khan to sign Punk, pay him millions of dollars, just to fuck with him out the gate? That makes zero sense.

No, there's stories. The problem is that they're very minimal and subtle. We have gotten way too used to the WWE's soap opera entertainment style of wrestling. But there's a reason why WWE is white hot and the rest of the wrestling business isn't and it's because people don't want to watch "wrestling". They want to watch a show, a spectacle. They want to be entertained.

It's just not presented in the way you're used to. It moves quickly and doesn't sugar coat anything. As an older fan from the 90's, I appreciate that. I already get the long , drawn out stuff on Mondays. I'd rather watch storytelling in the ring with technical matches.

and those technical wrestling matches simply appeal to a small subset of fans, hence the ratings and hence the attendance. People want to see something with a bit more oomph to it. It is what it is.
