Looking China is a short film series made by a group of young film directors from over 20 countries. They traveled to various places across China, making films and exploring Chinese culture with the help of students from local universities.
The latest documentary is about the Miao Village and the soul instrument of Miao people - Lusheng, which plays an important role in passing on the community's culture.
By talking with three local people in the village, you can tell Lusheng is in the blood of the Miao people. There is no written language in the Miao community - Lusheng is the element that speaks the language.
What are the pipes made of? How can the Lusheng produce so many different sounds? Check out the video and you’ll find out!

My grandpa told me that, no matter where we live around the globe, who ever play this kind of lusheng, we belong to one root.

You Hmongism extremist better be thankful that your Miao ancestors brought your ancestors to Laos while your Lao and Chinese ancestors that intermarry didn't want you AND claim you to be their kind.

The Hmong people had an empire long ago. Chu Dynasty is our empire.

The lusheng shown in the video are of the female variant. There's a male counterpart that's much bigger and commonly used by Hmong people today. There's a saying that when the Hmong people split from the Miao people during the exodus to Vietnam, they took the male lusheng with them and left behind the female lusheng. This is why Miao use the female lusheng, and Hmong use the male lusheng.

@ickisistheshitz Hi troll. I can say the same for you, too, and you obviously did not get my point. You're also in America and you're speaking in English, responding to me in English because the Brits colonized U.S. of A. Kuv paub hais lub Hmoob. Probably better than you.

ickisistheshitz lmfao! I triggered you like I wanted. You and I are on the same page but you took it out of proportion. The Hmong in China speaks mandarin bc they are in China and the Chinese did colonized us (even during the Manchu dynasty bc the Han in power did want to eradicate us) was what I was referencing at. You told me to get an education but I got a degree in anthropology and community health at one of the top colleges in the east coast. I learned about the Hmong in China when I studied abroad. Nice try, psychic. You thought you could read me but you are what we called “Dab hais lub rov qab”. Just because you have a “degree” doesn’t make you above anyone. Thank you for showing me what kind of character you have. In my college years and after graduation, Hmong ppl that think they’re above others due to a degree are the ones I don’t associate with. A good humble pie would work wonders with you and my “uneducated grandpa and papa” is just as uneducated as yours? You aren’t worth debating after this comment. My research has been published and accredited before I took a position that wasn’t in my field. You’ll come across that one day and I hope you don’t look down on others that are “lowly” of your standards.

ickisistheshitz might as well use that toilet paper for your mouth bc you’re full of kaka 🤣 You don’t know what I do for a living but thanks for your assumption that I have “no college education”. If you’re so “educated”, didn’t your school taught you to think before you judge others? I wish you peace bc you obviously cared about my opinion of your character bc you’re getting defensive and replying to my comments.
