Hello Bjorn; Keep looking until you find what you are looking for. I started 30 years ago with 38 acres. Now through trades and buying property off the tax roles I live on 1250 acres. It is comprised of 30% open land, a lake, a very large spring that feeds the lake and old growth forest. It is completely self sufficient and has a few houses scattered around it for my kids if things go sideways. It is still a work in progress.

Go with gut feeling, it took us years to find our old farmstead with a small river thru the property. Working to get the fields back, being retired helps. Last year we found island property on a lake here in northern Minnesota. The 5 acre lot we will be working on it, clearing a small building site, lots of work I'm 68 years old. Keep looking, you will find the right property.

I am homesteading 180 acres in the wilderness of British Columbia, Canada. I have no cleared areas but am building a farm here. If you get a good, heritage animal like Icelandic Sheep, they will thrive on the natural growth and create wonderful soil for you. I know you are a family man and have considerations regarding time, but I think that working the land towards your vision provides some of the biggest rewards. I am an Afghan vet in search of peace and I found it, but a little bit of fear or nervousness as I push my boundaries has also been good for me. I think a raw, wilderness area will suit you well, Bjorn. Particularly in the new future headed our way. Good luck - you will choose well, whatever you do. Thank you for the encouraging videos - you keep me going in crazy times.

If the Great Reset had gone or goes ahead as planned, there will be a terrific number of rules appertaining to forests and land, that until now have not been so intrusive. A big part of that programme was to use surveillance to catalogue and register everything on the planet, it would not have allowed for use of timber as necessary etc. As they intended abolishing ownership, they would also raise taxes, based on green rules, as defined by them. I see in Bulgaria, that only EU citizens are able to purchase land. For outsiders, they can only purchase property without gardens or land - basically a roadside house or city flat. I would also factor for the impact of the GSM and how that may affect ability to grow food or fish in the area over the next years.

Those who buy land will be at mercy of Great Reset period! My father inlaw works contracts for the great reset guys ns im told you all will lose your land and property and the only think to do is go tribal and constantly moving if you want to survive! take that to the bank. *clicks tounge and snaps fingers* Otherwise only a fool thinks he can a piece of nature. Ensure that no logging company has rights to the timber on the land.
@resarm5007
@resarm5007 2 года назад
That is good in theory, however, here in the USA there are people who own large tracts of land. They even go thru the labor of fencing and posting it private. The problem is, and I've seen the TIME AND TIME AGAIN in my homesteading groups, that logging companies will pay NO MIND to any of that. They don't care about you and your property boundaries and rights. They will drive right thru fences and across lines and take down acres and acres of trees with their enormous machines. You may hear them in the distance, thinking they're on other property and suddenly before you know it, their machines are barreling down on you, threatening you, your family, your home, your animals, your barns. They DO NOT CARE. And try to stop them! It requires a long court battle. And you're fighting Goliath! And your trees are down, taken already, your land decimated, your fences ruined. Believe me. It happens. They have a lot of power and they take what they want. You're lucky if you can escape with your life and your family, home intact. It isn't past them to commit murder. So those contracts or lack thereof mean very little in practical real life. You'll have years and years and fights ahead of you and the legal costs can be astronomical. Just something to keep in mind. These people play DIRTY.

@@resarm5007 But you allowed to buy weapons and use them, in Germania we just have primitive weapons and we not allowed to live off grid. So my log cabin is illegal, Plan C is to go to Skandinavien with other Germans and make 5 kids for the future of our folk. In Sweden it’s allowed to buy weapons for hunting, and private property ist private.

"Ice is a fool's bridge" is what I always think of, and I avoid it whenever/however possible. "Adirondack French Louis" (Seymour, a NY regional legendary trapper/guide/hermit) caused his demise taking a short cut across the ice, letting his mittens freeze to the surface of the ice and pulling himself out he got home to his cabin but caught pneumonia that eventually killed him. More recently we had a local man who fell in to a creek while trapping, managed to get back to his car but had a heart attack, and then within a week or so an elderly couple died when their dog went through the ice and they both drowned attempting a rescue. I'm not a fan of ice, or of anything that would require having to cross it. My father used to ice race until he slid through a hay bale barrier and was listening to a lot of cracking noises before he got it back on the track thinking he had bought it, but what freaked me out as a little kid was when our VW bus dropped a wheel into an ice fishing hole, I was ready to jump out but my father realized what its a immediately and got some guys to climb on the bumper and get us out. But I've stayed off the lake ice since. Anyways, if I was younger I'd be tempted to try homesteading, improving/reforesting and grazing a cleared piece of land like that, looks as though they stripped all the merchantable timber except along the waterfront. But being over fifty years old myself, I have to agree with something I just read about the importance of turning your garden over in the fall instead of the spring, because in the spring you will be six months older. Now you need to think about investing your time in making a place where you can be happy and comfortable in the second half of your life, entertain your friends and family. In a real SHTF you will have to fight to keep crops or cattle, the more remote you are the better, that includes being off major highways and even railroad or water routes that may become more used if people ran out of gas for their vehicles. More practically, you want to be above the highway, so water runoff, or garbage getting dumped , vehicles turning over in accidents spilling, or just the view from the road ruining your privacy, is not an issue. It is better to hold the high ground, and it also means you can get out in an emergency if the driveway is ice, not true if below the road trying to climb up. You also want your entrance on the public highway where you have a good view in either direction, because everyone important to you will be going in and out of that driveway (a relative of mine has an awful driveway location and many close calls over the years because people drive too fast on backroads here).

@Ghent Purdue Don`t be daft. The dog I`m refering to sometimes barks for 10 hours a day, for the whole summer holidays. The owner`s son winds it up by taunting it. The poor dog is tied up to a post. Last night it spent several hours tied up at minus 5 degrees centigrade, barking to be released. I know well the difference between a dog barking at a noise or a stranger, and a dog being abused. I have owned dogs all my life. You may be happy with animal cruelty, I`m not.

After a number of years of searching and a rather tricky day today, I thought about that scene in Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers where the trees were having an argument with the two hobbits with the trees advising patience and the hobbits kind of saying "yeah, but we can't wait forever". I err on the side of patience but I suppose it's a balance (I'm 51). Anyway, best of luck with the land search Bjorn!

Holy shiza Bjorn, first world problem I guess. Which forest should I buy? Hahaha. I don’t know what options you have and I guess yes you would certainly need to like the place, but from the video that one looks pretty darn nice to me. 🙂 happy shopping for your forest!

How many grow months does Norway have? The snow is beautiful but not seeing how owning land that is frozen the largest part of a growing year will be sustainable for a family. If SHTF, wild game will last a few months before the animals are hunted to extinction. Many questions before settling. Oh and then there's the question of the legal name fraud/strawman. Do you actually own the land or does the bank? Where I live, to own land you need millions and are automatically pulled deeper into the system. Licenses to do anything on your land up the wazoo. It's possible you only bought the 5cm topsoil and some big company owns the soil below that. NO disclosure about this when you buy. Very tricky dicky indeed. Good luck with your explorations! Hoping Norway is an easier maze to navigate!

Move to the US and buy next to me in Tennessee 😎 help us build a good bug-in community 😉 or go to Maine or New Hampshire, be closer to the coast. If I leave sell my TN place, those are the 2 east coast considerations. Either that or I'll go west, or west and north to Alaska. Currently live in SC, but I'm ready to leave here (too bloody hot lol)

In Canada the national socialists are making it increasingly hard for citizens to hang on to what they have, if they don't "play ball". Professional careers (intellectual property rights acquired at great personal cost and sacrifice) are being suspended by government mandate. Very large fines (Quebec) are looming for noncompliant citizens. Investing in anything (intellectual or tangible) within Canada has become like investing inside a third world country, with an unstable political climate, Why bother?

You can not buy land. You can only buy some very limited rights on that plot of land. The land belongs to the government 😫

Excellent opportunity. Woodland is monstrously expensive here in the UK as the rich land owners receive a thing called the Countrysude levy. Which is a payment for NOT developing their land... Essentially they make money out of simply owning large areas of the country as where normal people pay Council tax on the small homes and property we own.

How much does land sell for in your area? I always thought that the nordic countries were very expensive in term of real estate.

I wouldn t hesitate for long in purchasing your plot of land, The very wealthy and powerful are buying up everything now. My Wife and I do not regret buying our 160 acre forest in Northern Ontario Canada. We have made this home and have no regrets, We are surrounded by over 10,000 acres of what is called crown land here so it is protected from development. Only 2 others own the land surrounding the lake and they are like minded as we are. Good luck in finding what you are looking for and great video as always.

It seems a forest is more of a passive or very long term investment type thing - while as you say a farm, field or similar is indeed better for immediate emergency situations, while also being useful at any time during normal times also if interest in there. Good luck with your land and property hunt, Bjorn ..I've been looking for similar things for a long time; it is hard to balance all the concerns and aspects of something like this.
