Even after 35 years listening to Allan's music, I feel every chord change like a flower blooming in my soul. Which is certainly the most precious treasure of his music. And you catched it really great. I often think Allan was kind of a Doctor trapped on Earth, rather than just a brilliant musician. One day, we will realise his music heals many diseases. We can only be grateful for that.
The playing, totally impeccable, but I need to compliment the engineers too, for such an amazing recording and mix job. There are not many audio productions of this calibre.
God, this is sooo good. I saw Allan on the Atavachron tour in DC in 1986 -- among the 5 or 6 times I had the privilege of seeing him live. NO ONE writes music like he did. I also love your stuff with Tigran Hamasayan and Arthur Hnatek. Thank you for what you do!
Thanks everyone, it means a lot to us! If you are interested in learning how to play this song I've made the minus tracks available here_ evanmarien.bandcamp.com/album/looking-glass-minus-tracks
Evan's solo here is one of the best bass solos I've ever heard; an incredible display of musicality and technique. Reminds me of Jaco Pastorius' amazing solo in Havona!
I’d humbly suggest finding anything Jeff Berlin did with Allan. Jeff is a MONSTER, and he’s got several live performances with Allan from the early eighties which are here on YT. Allan hired really talented people, so all his performances are really great.
This is such a sublime version of Looking Glass that my natural instinct for critical listening just melted away and for a moment I felt like I was at a live Holdsworth performance.
Excellent cover, you really have the intensity and the feeling of transmitting Allan's music. Seeing young guys like yourselves preforming in such a beautiful way is a proof that Allan Holdsworths's music is here to stay forever.
Hope you and other incredible musicians keep Allans music be alive forever❤ His music changed my life, it went deep inside of me like nothing else did before…
Gorgeous. I haven't heard it played that beautifully since the original release. Holdsworth arranged the most beautiful sequence of chords to my knowledge with this one. Thanks, Evan and Dana!
Wow, I love everything about this performance. I have been listening to Alan since UK and Velvet Darkness. I love the way that you two sound - so fluid. You make this challenging material sound easy.
Evan Marien : I love this video. I never tire of seeing it. Especially the minute 4:55 , where you make that rhythmic variation faithful to the original. And the satisfied face you put on 4:57. hahahaha. You who have played with Allan, have you discussed the matter with any Allan`s musician? Why did they record it like this? My theory is that Tony Williams was wrong and dragged the others, so it was cool result.
