I was reading thru the comments and saw where someone asked if you could add another patch to the first one. I did a blanket like this but just in two colors My answer is yes, do not cast off do a slip knot of another color and keep going. I did 5 patches then cast off and start another set of 5 patches.
I know this video has been here awhile. I wanted to let you know that it is still helping people learn loom knitting. It is one of the best on youtube. Thank you for taking the time to do this. blessings
I consider myself an advanced loom knitter, but I got there with A LOT of trial and error. If I had your tutorials in the beginning, I’m fairly certain I would have had a lot less errors and trials :) Your videos are wonderful!
Hi there!! Just found you & I subscribed! ❤ I do love the video. I wish I could have seen the end of sewing those squares together. That is what i need help with most. Thanks for sharing!!
Ms Yarn, I have been looking for a Loom teacher. Let me just say "you are awesome". Loved the tutorial it was clear and easy to follow. Thank you looking forward to many more of your tutorials💞 Take care🥰
This video looks so good and easy to follow; I am really hoping I can make my first blanket (aged 56) as I now have osteoarthritis in my hand and am worried that this will affect the work; but thank you for making such a great video
This is beautiful! I'm new at this and your instructions are spot on. I'm a beginner. You make this look so easy so I'm going to give it a try. THANK YOU!
Oh my goodness!!!! I absolutly love this idea!! It looks amazing im definatly going to try it i just need to get the correct yarn. Thank-you so much for sharing this wonderful project xxx.
Thank you for sharing your video this is exactly what I wanted to do when I was thinking of making a blanket with the whole bunch of squares...love your video thanks again for sharing 🌻🌼🌻🌼🌻🌼🌻🌼🌻🌼🌻🌼
Thank you so much for this video. I'm italian and I couldn't find something similar in italian language... This is an opportunity for me to learn how to Knit a square and how to learn new english words about knitting world. I'm just trying to Knit a square 💪🤞 thanks!
I love your blanket. It's beautiful!! I was wondering if you knew how to make a ten stitch blanket as I get confused with other video's and love your teaching style, I can follow you easily and haven't failed making anything you've demonstrated. Thank you Ms Yarn.🤗
Hello first i want to say thank you so much. you are an amazing teacher. I am not crafty at all so i have been doing this square over and over and i still cant get it right. sure wish you were here to so me in person lolol thanks again tho. i will keep trying Linda
Keep trying, I promise it will get easier with practice! Also, my squares weren't all perfect. There were some little mistakes, but that's part of making things from scratch. Keep going!
Because I’m right handed, I like to cast on from right to left and then back to the right. Then, as I progress to the left for the next row I knit and purl each peg at the same time, with the working yarn in my left hand. This enables me to maintain the garter stitch without holding the working yarn in my right hand as I purl. I wish I could remember where I learned this as it saves me time and my work progresses much faster. With that said, I guess I should knit 33 rows, as opposed to 16/17?
I'm not 100% sure how to fix this, but I would try to tighten the knot more on those two squares, and try to stretch your square into the shape you want. On your next squares, try binding off more tightly on the last three pegs. I hope this helps. Maybe someone else who reads your comment will respond as well.
I am a tight knitter and all my squares so far curving up aswell so maybe try loosen your knit . I will let you know how it goes when I do my next square. How did yours turn out
So, I made this blanket and it looked awesome but I made a few mistakes so it ended up falling apart unfortunately. The biggest mistake I made was not making my tails long enough. The second was cutting the tails off once I knotted them rather than sewing them in. One thing I did differently was I crocheted the strips with a single stitch which looked pretty cool and then I crocheted the entire rim on the outside. It was so cute when I had it done but those two major errors I did messed up the whole thing darnit!
So I have a question. So I loom knit 10 rows and it measured 5 5/8 inches a crossed the bottom edge. And when I finished the square with the binded edge the length measured 6 1/8 inches. Did I mess up the square?.
That sounds like a very small difference, so I wouldn't overthink it, personally. I had a few lopsided squares myself. Maybe you were knitting a bit tighter at the beginning, and a bit looser at the end. No big deal though.
Hi Anne, I cannot be sure of the results of this suggestion, but I'll put it out there. Your daughter could do simply e-wrap squares. Due to the nature of the stitch, they would curl. But what if you placed half of them with the purl (back) side up? Maybe that would balance things out. Just an idea.
YES, thank you for speaking the whole time and slllloooowwwwllllyyy describing how to. As a beginner loomer this is much appreciated! Loom on... #christinecorley
So I’ve seen other videos doing garter stitch and they said to not do first and last leg with purl. And yours showed doing purl all the way. Is there a big difference between the two ways?
Excellent question. If you avoid purl stitches on the end pegs, you'll get a smooth edge, and the stitches along the edge will look like the letter V. Many people prefer this look, and find it to be more polished. These squares would be slightly narrower. If you do purl stitches on the end pegs, you'll get a bumpy edge. I like this edge as much as I like the smooth edge, especially for blankets. In this pattern, the bumpy edge helped me sew the squares together. Also, these squares are slightly wider. So to sum up, both edges are good in their own way.
You can absolutely use different stitches for each square. Just try to make the squares all the same size. Some people are making sweaters like the Harry cardigan with the help of this Video.
Love this but mine are curling up at the end when I bind off . I think I might of knit to tightly . I did 17 purl and 16 knit but it came out like a rectangle . I heard you mention in the video you said make it like a square not a rectangle. Any suggestions please
For the bind off, you can try making your last three stitches quite tight, and that might help. Maybe another knitter out there might know a hack? And about getting rectangles, I recommend either increasing or decreasing your row count to get a square. Hope this helps.
Were you using #5 weight yarn? It looks wonderful, so glad to have this video, exactly what I needed as my husband is home with Covid....so far, I am negative and need to keep my mind focused on something else....and be enjoying myself and productive at the same time;)
I made 30 squares. I've heard that #5 yarn will be looser. I suggest you do a square and see for yourself since I have not personally tried this with #5.
I have a question. So I just started making my first square the width is about 4 inches long ( I only did 10 pegs instead of 15. I double up on my yarn since I don't #6 bulky yarn.) So I wanted to ask you about how many square will it take me to be able to make this blanket?.
I haven't done the math, but here are some thoughts. I did 30 squares (5x6). Since your squares are much smaller, maybe make either 80 squares (8x10) or 99 squares (9x11) or 120 squares (10x12). It would depend on the final size you are looking for.
Hi, i can't find this information anywhere. Can you stitch two pieces of square on the loom? Actually I have flat panel Head Band and I would like to connect it seamless on the loom
I’m a beginner but I only have a rectangle 36 peg loom. The box said I can make Afghan squares but I can’t find instructions. Can I do yours with my rectangle loom instead of circle? Thanks in advance.
Generally, yes. If you use a large gauge loom - 3/4" between pegs - you'd use thick yarn, like #5 or #6. If you have finer yarn at home, you could try using two or three strands at once. BTW I did a loom review of these Loops&Threads Knit Quick looms. There are four looms in a pack, with different gauges. So the little loom with little space between pegs needs thin, light yarn.
If you have lighter yarn, you can double or triple them up and see how that goes. Try your best to make the squares all the same size, even if it means using fewer or more pegs than usual. Traditionally, the patchwork blankets of older generations were not perfectly harmonious, so I personally feel open-minded about giving it a stash-buster feel. So give your leftover yarn a try.
Is there a way when you are working the square, that after you have worked up to the length for your square, you can also work another square connecting to it, with a different color?
I am planning on making this pattern for a baby blanket with yarn appropriate for a baby. It is #4 weight and thinner than I am used to using. Should I use two strands of yarn or will one be enough?
I'm sure that you could make a double knit patchwork blanket and it would be cozy and plush. I'm not able to make a video though since I'm more interested in shorter projects at the moment.
Excellent video, thank you! QUESTION: I'm going to make a Danish flag. The red sections will be 18 inches wide. Can those be made in one piece on a 22 inch (29 pegs) long loom? I'm not sure how pegs translate to inches, but I want to be precise in the measurements and proportions.
I think you'll come up short. In this video on my particular loom, I used 15 pegs to get 7.5 inches. If you use 29 pegs, you may get around 14 to 15 inches, by my calculations. The best thing is to do a small swatch and then measure.
Hi, sometimes I used the tail to join another square, and so I would tie yarn to it as needed when I needed more length. And when it wasn't needed for joining/sewing, I would weave it in the square to hide it.
You can certainly make a patchwork blanket with different types of squares. For example, you could make squares of the same size, but use different stitches like the seed stitch, rib stitch, cables, etc
Hello, yes, for sure, I'm actually working on a seed stitch patchwork blanket right now. Also, in theory you might be able to do squares only in the knit stitch, and then when you sew them together, you could flip half of them over, so you have a knit stitch square next to a purl stitch square. Maybe try with four squares first to see how that turns out. Good luck.
After you sew all the squares together, weave in tails by following along the garter stitch. You can also search "weave in ends" on RU-vid for videos that might explain this better.
Ms Yarn hello, how do you get rid of the extra strings? My first blanket has all these knots all over them cause I couldn’t figure out how to hide the remainder tails!
Hello, you can watch a really good GoodKnitKisses video called "5.0 How to Loom Knit | Bind Off - 4 way + weaving tails" to help you in detail step by step. Personally I'm not the best at weaving in tails since I do this step a bit randomly.
Hello, I would suggest that you measure your own width since it will depend on your loom, on your yarn and how tightly you knit. For me personally it was 7.5 inches wide, and if I remember correctly it ended up being 17 purl rows and 16 knit rows. But this may be different for you.
I don't speak Spanish, so I suggest you turn on the English captions to help you understand. I have intentionally uploaded proper captions on my latest videos to make my work more accessible.
