I'd agree except- this is a child with known issues that's sneaky and needs more supervision than many that age. I wouldn't generally advocate for it but it sounds warranted in this instance. And wouldn't you know it, he was misbehaving.

Children should not have a cell phone, as we did not grow up with one, used pay phones. And he can live without a cell phone till he is an adult and has a full-time job to pay for one and the upkeep. And the stepmother did nothing wrong in letting dad handle the situation. You did not listen very well to her testimony.

You can restrict internet access on an iPhone. I manage my kids screen time and internet is paused on their electronics at bedtime. Parents need to take the time to learn about parental control features if they insist on their kids having smart devices.
@trinabyrd9598 Same. My kids are 12&8. They have not accessed the internet yet. I disabled Chrome internet on their tablets, and I have them on 3hr screen time. After that, you need a password (which only I have) to unlock the device. I have it set up to where I see all apps downloaded, and ALL purchases must be approved by me first.

It clearly shows a hammer or SIMILAR object impact point like a gunshot, PLUS it's also been either run over by a vehicle or something which created cracks all over, COMPLETELY. I ran over mine and it did not sustain nearly 1/4 the damage.

Well as a mother with children who have a stepmom, this is just a foolish and childish statement. Be confident on your position as a parent and talk with the other to come to an understanding but ultimately you have to understand that you can't dictate how your children are raised in another home and by whom. Don't want all that foolishness, then don't have children all willy nilly, know your partner before you share a life with them.
The new wife needs to mind her own business she crossed way too many boundaries , the mother bought a phone for her son and the new wife and the father had no business touching anything and wife shouldn't be coming the son's room unannounced .

A step parent has every right to discipline "someone else's" child. When taking on the role as a parent, that's part of the territory. Step parents aren't there just for decoration, and children should respect their authority, just as they should with others who regularly discipline "someone else's child" such as school teachers, police officers, bosses, etc. And from the sound of it, this child needs all the discipline he can get...did you not hear the predicament he's in because of his mother's lackluster approach to discipline? Sooner or later his discipline will come from a correctional officer.

Yeah, whatever. Unless that teenager is 18 and paying rent somewhere, then they don't have a room...it belongs to the parents(and any police or judge would agree with me). Dad and step mom seem controlling so it could have been as simple as that. They might have put him in the program as a ways to control him. The mom might be against it. Notice they also never said what kinda program it is. For all we know the kid got caught looking at lgbtqai+ things and the dad put him in a conversion program. Mom wants son to have a phone in order to stay in contact with him. Son is to have supervised internet usage. Mom buys son an iPhone with an unlimited data plan. 🙄 If she really wanted him to have a phone just to stay in contact with her, she certainly went about it all wrong. And she's definitely not doing her son any favors, undermining all the help he's getting/needing from outside sources.

That mother should not have let the son have the phone period. That being said, the father does not need additional custody beyond the 50/50 with that stepmother involved. She is very immature and craves drama. Dad needs to ensure he's also protecting his son from her meddling.
