Can't believe some of the other channels calling for Loppy's sacking. He fucked up last week with his line up but he did change it at half time which was as soon as he could. Realistically it makes too much of a damaging statement to players if they get hooked midway through first half and he needs to keep the enitre squads pecker up as you never know when you may need to rely on them. The proof of whether he is as aware as we hope will be his starting line up for Saturday. I want to see Todibo to start and midfield of Avarez, Paq, Soler, Somerville, Bowen, Kudus but ill take Alvarez, Rodriguez, Paq, Somerville, Bowen and Kudus.
I think a telling factor on Saturday was the introduction of Soler. Which personally I believe will be the last we see of Soucek as a starter. If Fulkrug had of been fit I think Antonio wouldn't have started either. I really don't understand some of our fans wanting Loppy out already, ffs give the bloke a chance. I believe we have not started badly, when you have so many new players come in, the team needs time. I completely agree with you gary that Lopi kicks every ball. I truly believe we will have a good season. I do wonder if they are playing certain players for the January transfer window. If a player is completely out of the team why would you pay top money. Danny ings and Antonio i believe can still do a job. It winds me up about Duran, people keep banging on if if if. If my Aunt had balls she would be me uncle.

I agree with you Gary, us West Ham fans need to stop banging on about Duran as it smacks of desperation. As far as I am concerned Villa messed us about and kept moving the goal post and we have to move on, that ship has sailed. Let's just look forward and focus on the season ahead, we have enough talent at the club and once they gel we should have a strong team. My only concern is Loppi not picking his strongest side in the starting 11. Let's get behind the team and Head Coach.
Cheers Barrington, I don’t think it’s any more than common sense and being a little bit fair on a brand new manager with a brand new squad of players. He might turn out good in the end and he might not, but he must be given a proper chance
Considering that Lopetegui’s style is technical and possession-based, and both Soucek and Antonio are technically poor, the only thing that makes sense to me is that Lopetegui’s pragmatism has seen him try to minimise the disruption of a new boss, new style, and loads of new signings by over-prioritising continuity to begin with. Football management is ultimately about results and perhaps he reasoned that too much change too soon could heap on the pressure if results didn’t follow, particularly with the tough early run of games. It will be interesting to see what happens now given he hooked both Soucek and Antonio at half time against Fulham with immediate improvement to performance.
yes Iron Robin great points and I think this is likely the reason behind it - he wants gradual change because in his view it probably feels less risky. I wish we could know where exactly each member of the squad is regards readiness for the PL. I think unless we know this we’ll be second guessing and making assumptions. But as you rightly say, all about points and personally I didn’t think we’d have 4 points already even though I back us to win every game, coz ya know, of course I do 😂
Total agree with you Gary. I was prepared for a slow start with all the new signings and Julian getting his way of playing across to the team. Hoping that Todibo is getting fitter and him and Kilman that would definitely make us stronger at the back. Once Soler is up to pace he’ll replace Soucek. So 10-12 games will be a marker⚒⚒
yeah I think 10-12 and as long as keep picking up a reasonable number of points in the meantime, it’s likely as good as any new manager could have done. The armchair managers really don’t have a clue what it is like to manage in the Prem. I don’t know either, but at least wait a while and make a fully informed decision. Hi Gary, I am away on holiday in Kefalonia, met up yesterday with a fellow Hammer while on the island of Ithaki. He's from Basingstoke now but a true Hammer. He's around same age as me in the sixties group. But it was really good to actually talk to some one about the past, from when we were 1st aware of the Claret and Blue colour and what it meant to become a family member. You could do a talk with older and younger fans on your site and get some interesting stories that way?

I had it in my head that I needed to give Loppy time and that I wasn’t going to listen to the criticism that would undoubtedly come with a new manager…. So I was thinking that we will see different tweaks as the first 12 or more games progressed and allowing time for players to get used to a new style and set of tactics…. But what I didn’t expect was to see Loppy play players from last year continuing to do what they were doing under Moyes … seeing new and old players playing out of their best position and seeing the same old mistakes and play from Moyes stalwarts like Soucek and coufal etc and yet despite them doing that picking them for the next game to start…. I would rather he experimented with the new additions and see us trying to play a more attacking game rather than just pick players and positioning that is not going to achieve anything significant indeed only give us more of the same old problems that we have all talked about and know….. I would have no problem with our results so far if the starting line ups were trying to find a balance and improving game to game…. But we just seem to be stuck with the same problems with no real solution game to game… it’s like we have a garage full of Ferraris yet our chauffeur wants to keep driving the ford mondeos… or when he decides on the Ferrari he just wants to drive it in reverse…!
I didn’t expect him to play Soucek or Antonio but I guess as he is not Moyes and treats the whole playing staff fairly, some kind of transition with senior players was inevitable
If, but and more on Duran for what? Like our previous manager we will hear the name time and again, both are history - gone so get over it. Totally agree on Antonio, perhaps give minutes in the last 10/15 minutes in a game if required. So true on Soucek. That starting lineup at Fulham must have made all regular fans shudder. I think the time to judge the coach is at the end of November when we will all have a better idea where we are headed.
I think this squad rotation is something, as fans, we just have to accept, when you have upto 5 of your squad flying half way round the world for international games and getting back, sometimes, 1 or 2 days before a league game, I think we have to accept that there will be times when players, such as Soucek or other european internationals, will likely start games, even if it's for 45 - 60mins, as none of them are likely to be sufferring from jet lag, rest or lack of preperation time, perhaps it will settle down to a more established first 11 once all these international breaks are over.
Steve you are right actually, another positive is exactly that - he doesn’t run his players into the ground. Still think he got it wrong first half but at least he acted.
Thank you for your comments, Gary. I totally agree senior pros (who train hard) should be given a shot - Danny Ings is the name that springs to mind. However if he's studied the team before joining, he should know what is what. Don't need a coaching badge to know what Souchek is. Going back to your JWP v Souchek comments Coufal has been replaced which was more urgent. We could never totally rebuild in one or two windows and we have done a great job with our signings. The jury is out on Füllkrug - as you say he needs to learn the premier league and also learn playing with the likes of our more attacking midfielders.
Yeah I think the jury is still out on anyone who hasn't yet player like Fullkrug and Todibo. I'm also concerned about Paqueta because I think my reaction to not seeing Soucek perhaps let him off with what was a very average 2nd half performance. I wonder if the old Paqueta has left for good?

Agree 100% about Jhon Durán. So what if he scores for Villa? He plays for them not us. It's the sort of pointless outraged reactions made by 'Shock Jocks' who like to have everything both ways.
So comparatively, we are 3 points better off than last season and we are still bedding in new ideas and tactics, so what's the panic. Saliba didn't start straight away for Arsenal and was gradually worked into the team, that is normal and I would suggest the same process is gonna happen with Todibo. last season, our defensive set up was an issue, but I can see a huge improvement on last season (except Emerson is a little off). The current team play in a totally different style, but you can see players are still adapting to the new demands including the centre halves, Kilman is more up to speed because he's already played under JL. The lineup was underwhelming, but you can see that JL is playing the long game and looking to building a squad mentality rather than a first team. Giving the Moyesball players a fair crack of the whip will leave no grudges when they are benched and they will be useful over the season, they aren't crap, they just aren't easy on the eye, but they are effective options.
Exactly Barrie, no panic at all, for me just a couple of questions over team selections but he's allowed to make mistakes now tbh. I can definitely see what JL is doing and I think a few players have not yet adapted to it. We are playing way way high up the pitch which hopefully will suit Fulkrug as well when he gets in.
Evening Gary. I'm afraid we've got Moyes mk2.. We're playing Moyesball just 10yds higher up the pitch. Still no idea how to create an attack and score at the end of it, defence leaks goals from nowhere, midfield passes sideways and backwards and just as slowly as under Moyes. Lopetegui also sets up not to lose as the priority and if we can smash & grab something he's content. Rhetorically, if you can explain to me why Antonio and Soucek get anywhere near the 1st eleven with the talent we have in this squad, because it's fkn beyond me. The trouble is, so many of us didn't want Lopetegui in the first place. I suppose we have to give him a chance but I don't hold much hope. I would use Ings much more, Moyes totally disrespected him. I'm not as convinced that it was a great transfer window, just a good one maybe.
No one knows if Tim is in charge of hiring and firing and as far as I've seen, it's still down to Sullivan. Unless we're bottom 3 and not winning, Loppy won't be sacked. If Moyes wasn't sacked for many dire results and poor periods, then neither will JL.

I agree with you mate, I was devastated by the selection, it almost feels like a betrayal... you finally think the club understands what went wrong in the moyes era, you sign all these players, then the new manager does what wasn't working the last season? very worrying, in terms of underlying stats we finished 13/14th (i forget which) in expected points last season. I would expect someone that had watched us all season to know this and not attempt to emulate a failed strategy. All I can say in his favour is we got used to a loon that would stick to a plan proven not to work 100 times.. maybe lops not a chess GM but hopefully he can see when his house is on fire.

It’s an issue but not the biggest one. Step one has to be stop leaking cheap goals, I’m pretty certain the top end of the pitch will eventually fall into place. Kudus was off the boil at the weekend and he too had just got back off long haul. He was ok but not top drawer. I think the second half formation is a good one

Lopetequi needs to explain why he played jet lagged 34 year old Antonio instead of giving Inngs a chance or playing Bowen up front . There was no excuse possible. Lopetequi is making life difficult for himself with these totally mind boggling decisions.
Whilst the Fulham selection was bizarre, I think the football has improved dramatically compared to last season. Reasons to be cheerful and optimistic if you ask me.
I think so too Yatesy. The fact that at some point during every game you will enjoy watching what's in front of you. It isn't for 90 minutes yet and the players are still warming to the club and the new system, but to take it to the lowest common demoniator and draw a parallel with Moyes is frankly pretty laze.
Agree with everything you said Gary. It is fairly obvious the start of the season wasn't going easy, either with the team or the fixtures. Liverpool is another blow for our hopes. I still things will turn round for us and things are better than with Moyes.
@GaryKillington I understand your point. Everyone needs to be on the same wave length, but at times, we have had a few players on VHF, and others still on long wave. And Antonio wandering around with two tins and a bit of string. Sharpening up is correct, and I feel that will be more quickly achieved by using a consistent lineup and best players in position. Not Kudus on the left, not Ings up front alone, not Antonio after international games and long flights. Not Paqueta when he has a sparkplug loose. And whip Mavropanos passport off him so he can't go on holiday up the pitch. I know, I'm moaning a bit. But I do still have faith that Lopetegui knows more about winning long-term than I do, so I'm all for letting him move things along at a pace he feels the team can cope with. If you want to learn to play a musical instrument, you don't start off trying to play the concertos, do you. Got to do the exercises and put in all the practice first.
Yes I think he is. I have a feeling he will come good one day but that day is not here yet so he should return to being emergency cover. He's had his chance and Saturday was a really graphic illustration of what he is capable of.

We may not have been the better side overall against Fulham but I don’t agree with those that say we were lucky to score the equaliser. It was in truth a genuinely brilliant goal from a side that didnt give up. Huge praise is needed for that.
My only gripe about the weekend is him starting Antonio. it had me thinking things i didnt want to, not the tin tack. Really i think though, that when he has sorted out who is useful here or there we will see a more settled team I hope though he now sees at leasr 4 of those players as useful bench warmers and not starters. We don’t need to use two holding mids against teams like Fulham…Alvarez is the only cdm needed against teams on our level we need solver and paqman playing together they can play the creative passes and interpass between themselves really well
Yeah... I think the biggest mystery is Todibo remaining MIA. That signing seemed like there were a lot of expectations that came with it... yet we've seen more time from Soler (our newest signing). I wouldn't fret too much about starting player selection for now. While we all want to see our best starting, Loppy seems to be leaving no question on those fringe players' performances. We are still quite a way from seeing something clean, crisp and team-like from defending to attack. I'm glad Loppy has started with solidifying defense... we will have our chances on the attack once we start possessing/passing more efficiently.
The longer it goes on, Chuck, the more worried I get. The sound of silence, absolutely no news at all. We don't know if it's because of Dinos or fitness or that he hasn't settled. Could be anything.

I think the nail on the head is that Lopetegui HAS to learn from previous decisions - eyebrows have been raised with team selections but all the new signings have benefitted from a couple of weeks training now so there isnt an excuse to embed them into the XI whether starting or utilising them properly off the bench. Soucek and Antonio simply cant start anymore and Kudus has to be moved either to the right or centre. For Chelsea Id play him on the right and bring Summerville on the left with Bowen up front. Ings isnt far away from a start and if we perhaps had Ipswich on Saturday Id play him but the strongest XI must play v Chelsea. At the back Mavropanas has been good, but as you say Gary there is error stricken stuff in him weekly so its time to start Todibo with Kilman.
I know the team I'd like to see and I've put a lot of thought into it. I've done quite a lot of research since the game at the weekend because the second half performance was kind of clouded my elation that Soucek and Antonio weren't on the pitch. But I've now noticed a few worrying trends with one player in particular. Won't say who, I'll leave it for my preview.
I think the signal that his team is functioning correctly is first of all we stop conceding self inflicted goals. I suspect that is what he's more focused on at the moment because if you keep conceding, you will not win many. It's what most managers do when building a team - solid base first, so we've got to be patient even though sometimes I''m not either. I think it's fine to be reactive immediately after a game but beyond that surely you have to see the bigger picture - 4 games, 1 win, 1 draw, 2 losses to CL opposition including the Champions. Also in the next round of the League Cup.

I don't know what the state of the squad was, but he soon changed his mind and reverted to what he should've started with - in my view. In fact the second half line up was pretty much what Chris and I thought would be the starting line up. I liked it. I think he's still learning and I like to think he was quite surprised how bad Soucek and Antonio actually were. If I was a new manager I'd be surprised that's for sure. I wouldn't actually expect two PL players to be unable to pass or hold a ball, these are bare minimum expectations for a football player.

Yeah seen it and forgotten it! I know he's a good player but he also plays for villa and if you've watched me over the years you will know that I am completely and totally biased to West Ham. I really don't give a flying one about villa or their players, even ones we wanted to sign. Maybe I'll get interested again in the January transfer window, but we need him to lose a bit of form or we won't afford him. Probably won't anyway.

Good point Bob, sport is not an exact science, if it was then the betting companies would not exist. It is not FIFA either where you select a group of top players, a formation and it beats inferior opposition. It is not always the case
The Soucêk & Antonio cluster f**k aside, my concern is that we currently have probably the most technically gifted squad we’ve had for a while. Including 2 world class players in Paqueta & Kudus, so why aren’t we rinsing there talent and playing them in there preferred positions ? Because let’s face it we probably won’t have them next season…we may not have Kudus after January.

That wasn’t the full list it was just the few I remembered while doing the show. I listed about 10 stark differences a few days ago in a few minutes, they are genuinely chalk and cheese.

Cut this all quite short is that as an olas west hammer and with one other west ham fan out here in the middle of nowhere is we don't have any luxury of going to any game watching at the pub anywhere with fans talking to work colleagues or friends etc before the game or after, our only source of information comes from social media and I think that being said it confused us to know end with fan divide and patience ran thin for quite sometime with all the hoopla that went on in the club with moyes etc the board . We didn't have any release we can't do ffff all apart from yell at the TV or maybe the misses's ear hole 😂

Cannot say it's gone a bit Kier Starmer yet, ask this another month in. There are some worrying signs. Team selection being the major one. Lop claimed he studied West Ham for months so a leggy Antonio and a talentless Souchek should not be started. At least he hooked them early. The direct question to Lopetegui is why is he playing Souchek? What is the appeal? Dinos is a disaster per game. FA Cup and injury cover only. He's like Romero at Spurs.
I think he has inherited a few players (the usable ones left over) and they're largely senior pros, so he has to give them a fair crack. That's my theory anyway, I also think he did it because it was an away game after an international break. I suspect they are likely his reasons but I think he got it wrong and likely learned a lot about some of those players he inherited. He's a very impatient man so he won't just stick to the same players if they let him down. Before yesterday, Antonio hadn't really let him down (hadn't done much either, but worked hard) and Soucek had done all the different roles he's asked him to do. But against a footballing side who pressed, Soucek was so far out of his depth it was just painful. So yeah I think he's still learning about those senior pros and what they are and are not capable of. I expect he's surprised at just how bad they are at times. It must be bloody eye opening don't you think?
Great reply, Gary. Thank you for taking the time. Looking at commentators (trite) philosophy Souchek , Moyes etc are seen as wonders. I personally think Souchek trains his nuts of and managers like that - like Mason Mount. As for Antonio having ASD I sympathise, there's days I'm as slow as he is. When he comes back from injury he's a powerhouse then it drops off. With 20 mins to go I believe he'd be a motivated goliath. He carries a lot of muscle and that's why he gasses after 60mins motivated or not. Ultimately time will tell. Thanks again. On to the next BMS vid.
Not about to call for Loppy's head but his selection against Fulham was certainly concerning especially as Antonio is well known for coming back from International duty leggy and slow.
We need a settled side that works as hard as Captain Jarred …we were totally inept in the First Half Antonio shouldn’t have started too tired at his age as he probably ran himself out with Jamaica ..the subs made a difference so it tells you a lot …wasting all that money and not playing for instance the EPL POTY …Soucek can’t play no10 he’s too spidery get Pac or Soler in and work round that..
I agree with that, effort is an absolute minimum for me. Soucek is a simple footballer - he can break up play and he can make late runs into the box. That is about the size of it
Give the bloke a chance 4 games, even Fergie took a while. My concern is how many times Fulham got crosses in from our right side, misplaced headers saved us apart from their school boy error goal, even 2nd half when we improved they got round the back easily. It happened too many times.
One last Duran comment lol. He still hasn’t signed with Villa. I’d be offering Villa 10 million in January with only 6 months left on his contract. If they knock it back give Duran a big signing on bonus and sign him on a free
I maintain that JoLo needs half a season to work out his best squad. Also the new players need to get used to the Premier League, results will be patchy for a while.

@@GaryKillington my concern for the next 10 games will be Paqueta and Kudus, both seem to have lost their enthusiasm. Paqueta coz of his charges and Kudus coz his head has probably been turned.
you get Soler into that role and try to find the players who are there to cause damage - Bowen/Kudus mainly. So often our attacks stall when Paqueta chooses a bad option.
Fans are entitled to their own opinions,the Duran deal was a cock up because the player wanted to come,20 years old most supporters could see he was a real striker and £40 million was worth it
Ian I hope this is the last time you mention him!! Yeah we all wanted him, but it didn't happen and my point is, what is the point in talking about it 4 games into the season after the window has closed? Maybe talk about it when the window opens again? I don't hate Duran, I wanted him too. But I do think he is being used as a stick to beat the club with after they actually managed to completely rebuild a broken squad in record time. Also they got a striker just not the one everyone had expected. But he will do a job too, don't write Fullkrug off.

Yep, we drew against Villa when their season had taken a nose dive at the end. We got thrashed by Palace and Fulham and beaten without much of a fight by City. Chalk and cheese innit
Gary, is there the smallest chance that Lopetegui does not trust/rate the creative part of our central midfield area so picks Antonio (9) and Soucek (10) as awkward pain in the bum, penalty box, ball crashers. How much say did he have on the purchased players.
Yes there is and I think it is because Paqueta is not doing what he is supposed to be doing. He has not been himself this season and I think Soler might end up taking his place.

He's being written off only because people are still pining for the player they didn't get. It's not Fullkrug's fault we didn't sign Duran, you can however blame Aguerd quite a lot
why can’t he pick them? You mean at all? They are his players, should he kick them out then? Both will have their uses but not away to Fulham and not in that context - one knackered and one not a striker
