The media-telecommunications-utilities conglomerate known as the Lopez Group today is the post martial law chapter of a hundred year history of a clan of entrepreneurs with a humanitarian touch.
Amb. Manuel M. Lopez, Chairman of Lopez Holdings Corporation said that his brother Eugenio "Geny" Lopez, Jr. led the rebuilding from scratch, of a conglomerate that was reduced to ashes by martial law. Geny resurrected the Lopez Group by establishing Benpres and listing in Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE).
Lopez Holdings changed its name from Benpres to Lopez in 2010. As a result of the business turnaround, The company in 2011 paid out cash dividends for the first time in its 18-year history. It paid the same rate of dividends in 2012 and in 2013, committed to providing value as well as giving returns to stakeholders.
The seeds planted in 1993 have borne fruit. Lopez Holdings is stronger, the parent company of two much bigger conglomerates: First Philippine Holdings (FPH) and ABS-CBN.
