Once considered extinct, the Lord Howe Island Stick Insect was rediscovered in 2001 on Ball's Pyramid, a volcanic outcrop just off the coast of Lord Howe Island. A single pair of Lord Howe Island Stick Insects were brought to Melbourne Zoo in 2003 to try to start a Conservation Breeding Program. They did breed and their story continues today.
