I think they’re both right. The energy of The Black Power Movement gave rise to Hip Hop. In NY Puerto Ricans, West Indians and Blacks grew up together so they all took that energy to create Hip Hop.

Word up....I definately agree.....I'm a Bronx JAmerican, raised around Pr's and Dominicans on Walton Ave in the early 70's...I remember when rap was created and yes KRS is correct....everyone was involved!!! First rap record on wax was King Tim the 3rd and the fatback band.....PERIOD.....just for the REAL historians....everything and everyone else came after

In Jamaica til this day they throw what we would call block parties with 2 turntables and 10 foot speaker boxes. I think krs 1 says Herc brought that vibe from Jamaica to the bronx.

I guess LJ never heard of Jamaican toasting and DJs. I thought everybody knew that Jamaicans were a major force in creating the rap music we love. Jamaican producers created the dopest production techniques that many genres grew out of. They did that in Jamaica. Jamaicans came to NY. The kids in the Bronx figured out how to use that. Kool Herc lit that fire. Jamaica deserves respect.

I think his view is a bit narrow though and even too idealistic. KRS claims it was Puerto Ricans and Jamaicans helped invent hip hop. Jamar is saying Puerto Rican and Jamaican culture is not evident in hip hop. It doesn't have to be though to be true. It's like I'm Puerto Rican, if I invent a new ice cream flavor. That doesn't mean Puerto Rican culture invented ice cream, but it does mean a Puerto Rican had a role in ice cream flavors. So Kool Herc is Jamaican, he helped start this. Yeah, it's an NYC invention but does that make him not Jamaican though? Rap music is a story of the hood from our generation. Civil rights leaders he named looked down on rap, like Jesse Jackson. Our parents might have come from different places, but we grew up in the same neighborhoods, same schools. We were more interested in rap music than any of those civil rights leaders.

You should also do your research on Tariq. Seriously. You blindly listening to one Man when there is countless information to prove otherwise only shows you not looking for truth. You just looking for weak ass narratives that support an idiotic claims. Please explain, if possible, what would be the reason to lie about the origins of Hip Hop. What is the incentive to say Jamicans and Puerto Ricans contributed to Hip Hop? I don't really understand the narrative. Maybe you seeing something I'm not. Are you saying this is some grand conspiracy? So Jamaicans and Puerto Ricans who Tariq also acknowledges are part of the 12 tribe of Israel, are working with the White Man to down play other tribe members contributions? Is that your claim? Otherwise what exactly are you saying and the point of this video unless to further divide a community of people for no reason?
