Eminem's albums were always overrated to me. Maybe I just couldn't relate to the material but Em still has one of the sickest flows of all time and is lyrically talented but I get what LJ is saying. There's a reason Eminem sells more than any other rapper and it's not because his music is so much better than any other rapper. He's definitely more talented than Macklemore but you can't deny the factor that race plays in both of their success.

The problem is that black folk can be so passionate about their creations and preserving the roots of it all that we articulate our thoughts sometimes coming across as bitter. But there is nothing wrong with preserving roots of an art form or culture. There are so many moving parts especially when it comes to black history that it can be deeply complicated.

I appreciate lyricism, wordplay and technique. However, I can understand what he states about soul in music too. It's no different than blues music. 2 people can play the same song well, but the one with more pain and emotion is more appealing (for that style). Eminem has released tracks that told stories, pulled on peoples' heart strings, or made someone feel something meaningful. It seems that the more commercial songs (that are corny or goofy) get all the attention from some folks. That is what they base "how they feel about Em" off of. I do feel other rappers more as far as substance goes, but technique...it's hard not to give Em props on that.
