welcome to the only genre where we accept "the lowest hung fruit". Try calling yourself a rock band, get on stage and scratch the guitar strings to a load of noise, then call it 'screech music' and see if the rock fans accept you for 'it is what it is'. Its pathetic that we are willing to not have standards for an art-form that we love. And THATs why hip-hop is devalued.
***** the fact you can't even comprehend metaphors and symbolism when approaching lyrics is why lil Yachty would appeal to you. Let me guess you also think "White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane" is about a white rabbit they saw in a zoo somewhere? 😉
Damian Sounds I think the issue lies in it all be considered a single genre... Lil yatchy makes music...it appeals to ears as much as I hate to say it. But he ain't rapping...that isn't rap. I don't give a fuck what Google says rap is. rock and rap are very similar so why is it OK for rock to have a million sub genres and rap can't?
***** man if only Yachty and those guys took as much effort into writing lyrics as you did in defending them, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. 😄
At 7:44, when Vlad says "there is an argument" that Drake might be better than Tupac/Biggie, you can see Jamar squinting like he's trying to remember if he brought his gun with him in his bag...Or left it back in the car.
Tone Anthony two things ems changed drastically since his prime, beats and voice. Also flow, all three of those have changed whether the stans believe it or not
So I was gonna leave on comment but Lord Jamar probably said THE RIGHT THING which is MUMBLE RAP IS STRAIGHT TRASH 🗑 I’ve got to say you quite the Beauty and I needed to tell you. Just Incase you forgot Beloved 😘😘😘😘😘 ☮️❤️🌎to The GOD LORD JAMAR(Brand Nubian The BEST) N yes the peoples chakras have been DUMBED DOWN for sure.....
I get what LJ is trying to say. Drake isn't mumbling he's actually saying something (a whole lot of nothing) but he's saying something. Whereas these other "rappers" are out here being incoherent and relying on melodies. So in that sense it's easy for Drake to shine as the "biggie" or "Tupac" of this generation. It's easy to look smart in a room full of dummies
niansillabffs i love big but he didnt talk about anything either....if we're saying drake talks about nothing?? that nigga tells stories as did big so effortlessly, butttt??? big had no more substance in his rhymes than drake does now (when hes focused on rapping), of course he dont say nothing when its r&b focused especially todays drake. drake 6 years ago?? foh
Sells and attention yes soul music can't be put in such boxes 2 PAC still one the greatest and r.i.p. young pappy peace to Dark lo O.B.H. both of these dudes I like lyrically and they both honor Pac
Justa Human he didn't even say that . he said his body of work overall ,meaning everything hes put out has reached a greater response from fans NOW than when pac did when he released his shit for obvious reason though . this is whats wrong with you niggas judging these videos . y'all take one thing and Run with it in your own way and make it exaggerated
A as is Apple nigga, b as in battle nigga, c as in cattle nigga d as in dap a nigga, e is for everybody that happy for a nigga, lol I should keep going might fuck around and blow for real.
Kanye was producing way before we knew the Kanye we know today, we didn't start to SEE and really pay attention to Kanye until 2004, but he's been underground producing shit since 1996 at least.
I wanted to turn the vid off when he brought up Jay Electronica as someone relevant. The same Electronica I've been waiting to put out an album for nearly 10 years now. Jamar, thankfully, called him on his bullshit.
The dude just said Minnesota was a cool song , are you fucking kidding me Vlad is an idiot without a doubt . Yachtys voice in the song sounds gerbil- like . Dude that song is stupid man !!!!!
i think they just getting more "adhd", cause we all have dopamine levels which we need to satisfy to feel normal, drugs increase that level and I'm not sure but i think it would transfer over to your kids
Bits Rep The last 6 mins were proof that jamar is spitting the truth not many nowadays will do this but whether you like it or not he's straight shooter and he's right especially when Vlad tried to say drake has taken big/pac over which he was implying, what the fuck is he on about, match drakes best song versus any top 10 of pacs or biggies, Vlad always talks about the sales and more hits bullshit but ice ice baby was probably more successful than anything drake has done but is vanilla ice regarded as a great or even good
Posta Da King in my opinion, and I don't mean to offend anyone, I'm just saying how I see it. keep in mind *I believe being a culture vulture is a real thing and it can be a big problem.* being a culture vulture is when you completely rip off another cultures art then pretend like you invented it, not showing respect to it, while (most of the time) hating or not caring about the culture that actually made it... there's a difference between a white or latino guy reporting on rap music because he likes it, and a white or latino guy reporting on rap music, while pretending like he's the first to do it, and not really even liking the black folks who made it or paying attention to the other, less fun parts to their culture....I mean look at the people he interviews, if he was a culture vulture he would try to save face by not bringing people on who are going call him out for doing so. I'm a firm believer that sharing cultures and ideals help us progress as humans. *but stealing culture will only divide us.* I had to say that because if everyone over uses these terms they'll end up loosing their meaning. also culture doesn't always = race. hey this is just my opinion and if you don't agree, try to tell me why in a way that's not going to make me ignore this whole comment thread since I posted my thoughts in a chill way. -oh also im mixed and in low income housing, so no need to explain things to me like I'm some rich white kid from Vermont.
Posta Da King We black folks are giving this nigga too many passes. At some point we have to take our music back and teach white folks that they don't dictate the rules to the shit. Vlad is the type of guy to say nigga off camera.
Jamar is right, 90s was totally much more lyrical, even party songs were lyrical. There are also loads and loads of less successful great rappers in the 90s who didn't blew up due to label politics, bad marketing etc.
Lord Jamar is right. They did have better competition Back then.. Dmx , Nas , Scareface, Jay z , Eminen , Ice cube, Snoop Dogg , Method Man , Redman , Mase , Camron , J Santana , Shyne , Game , Dr Dre , Ghost face , Jadakiss , Styles p , Lox , A tribe called quest , Biggie , Tupac , Naugty by Nature , Wu-Tang , Busta Rhymes , Mobb Deep , Fabulous.. I know there's more Rappers I didnt even list. Im Young , Still saying these new rappers are wack. So you can't base my opinion bc of my age. I can't believe this guy defending this new bs as music...
gregsgot5onit yeah you could add 50 people easily on that list now its big krit, cole, k-dot, joey badass, lupe, vince staples, danny Brown, Chris Rivers etc but they cant keep up with big pun, gza, MF DOOM, Aesop Rock, KRS, kool g rap, mos def, nas, black thought, big L, andre 300, k-rino, canibus, Sean P and so on
Y'all need a history lesson Brand nubian, X clan, Kid N play, main source, busy bee starski, jurassic 5, kevie kev, kool moe dee, Whodini, afrika bambata, young gunz, da youngstas, n2deep, talib kweli, poor righteous teachers, Ice-T, Skee-lo, AZ, e-40, De La Soul, world famous supreme show, Hi-Tek, treacherous three, Dogg pound, cormega, Nature, roxanne shante, Naughty By Nature, jimmy spicer, divine source, sweet g, t ski valley, 3 fresh mc's, grand wizard theodore, world class wrecking cru, beastie boys, and so many more...
Lord Jamar is killing me in the interview..LOL but he's 100% right, this generation has been dumbed down. They chase likes more than they do substance. This is a sad follow generation.
@@goldenskies9884You guys over use the hell out of words you don’t know the meaning to. Boomers were born from 1946-64 you dummy clown. I’m no where near that era. Mumble rap has made you stupid, go read and educate yourself young buck.
Vlad seriously irritated the FUCK out of me in this interview. It's like he was trying to make Jamar like Yachty and his style of rap. Dude, fall back. If he don't like him then he just don't fucking like him. MOVE THE FUCK ON! Then the whole Drake, Biggie & Tupac discussion had me irritated with Vlad yet again. Not because he agrees with Lil Yachty, but because it felt like he wasn't trying to let Jamar get his point across. Shit is aggy yo.
Kanye was producing and rapping when big and pac were alive I still have my dattapes from sessions he produced for me, over 20 songs don't let vlad misinforme you. I'm from Chicago
VLAD stay hating on Nas. Im with Jamar nobody is going to force me to listen to the BS out there. I want the rapper to be at least an average rapper no matter how sweet the beat is.
My definition of a hit is your definition of a miss because mindlessness is the mindset of the day and anything that emcompasses that is a "hit" with the masses. Furthermore, I'd rather be classic than be a hit, but that just me :)
Lord jamar is right . There is no standard for what's wack or not these days.. and if you call out some bullshit you are just called a "hater". Lol this is what happens to a generation of kids who grew getting "participation awards"
You are an ignorant little piece of shit. Being an ignorant scrawny wannabe with a low IQ is not cool. Your parents failed kid, as will you in life with that attitude.
i misunderstood you're original comment. I agree, but i feel the frustration comes from the lack of lyrical content with most new rappers in comparison to the older rappers we loved so much
Being open to new ideas is a good thing in general. It's like when people don't want to even hear other people's opinions. Locking yourself into your own box and not interacting with the outside world, you can make you spiral out of control because you only get your own opinions reinforced and turn you into an extremist. It doesn't matter much when it comes to music, because people would barely fight over songs, but it's generally a good idea to at least listen to new shit, even if you disagree with all of it. Nothing wrong with only liking old shit, but at least try to hear some current shit. I wouldn't want to miss out on the Kendricks and Mick Jenkins just because every new rapper with lil in their name is trash.
He's wrong. Hip-hop is not about melody. It's about rythm. There are melodies of course and usually the hook will be where you plug a catchy melody, but the verses are about rythm and flow. Hip-hop 101.
it is but thats what rap has become. it has evolved (for better or worse, arguably the latter moreso than the former) to mofos putting more emphasizes on melody over rhythm. funny thing is, when hip hop first started to get attention, one of the main critiques of hip hop songs is that it lacked any melody. melody is cool but damn if thats all it has and no rhythm then it might as be pop and not hip hop.
That is what _mainstream_ rap has become, i do not know, i anyway did not like most mainstream rappers eighter. Anyhow checkout blabbermouf, christmaz, hex-one, also theres some nice uk hiphop ( checkout dutch mob - one take )
First LJ impresses the shit out of me over and over. He’s right about current popular music being liked by younger kids vs adults because we have, and are rapidly continuing to dumb down American society. As far as Vlad comparing Drake to Tupac is insane and asinine. You can’t compare two vastly different eras as far as charts and record sales. Although the internet existed at the time it was nothing like it is now in the early 90’s. There was no file sharing sites to download free music, nor was there iTunes or anything similar for paid downloads. There was no RU-vid to watch music videos whenever you wanted, there was no SoundCloud for artists to release music on their own, there was no social media to promote artists or allow people to preview their music. You had to buy the CD or copy someone else’s CD onto a tape. That’s it! MTV, VH1, and BET were the only places you’d see a video or find out about artists and/or upcoming music. Also, population has exploded in the last 25 years and far more music consumers exist. Essentially, internet connectivity and population increases has made it a vastly different era as far as how we consume music.
Vlad does know that 2pac died at his peak and he was only 25 and biggie died at his stardom rising at 24 right? Of course drake would have more hits than dead people he better and you could still make an argument about that on 2pac case since he had hits after his death and more albums. How can someone with a hip hop channel be this clueless with his statements
I'm pretty sure he wrote most of his music especially his old shit that got him to where he is. Just because some say they wrote for his recent projects doesn't discredit the boundaries his pushed in music. He's on top for a reason.
I actually kinda like Lil Yachty's music, but that part where vlad says "Drake has more hit records [than Tupac or Biggie]" - I felt that sigh from Jamar so thoroughly.
Back at biggie and Tupac time, rap and hip hop wasn't mainstream. Rap, hip hop is so excepted today, so comparing drake to biggie and Tupac based on "hit records" is not fair.. do you think the artist of today will still be selling albums after their dead? Or silent for even a year? Hell no..
The gaming Taco nah, because if you don’t let them call themselves rappers they’ll label themselves as artists and people will eat that shit up. This new generation of rap is so spoiled with this watered down bullshit that anybody can be famous as long as their not that different from the other guy
So Lil Yachty says Drake is better than Biggie or Pac, but he knows nothing about their music history or hip-hop period? That does not make any sense.......0_o
gallyun1 Exactly it's like in late 90's if people sid bone thugs n harmony were better than public enemy or Nas is better than Ice cube but didn't listen to Public E or ice cube, I'm sure the dude didn't even listen to biggie or pac, I'm 20 and for me I'm not biased and biggie and pac are much better than drake, I'm not an 'old head' which mumblers keep saying to sway the truth so in my opinion it's bullshit
Vlad cannot possibly understand the root of rap music because his spirit is not connected to it as all culture vultures cannot relate... This interview proves this shit... 😏😏😏
