I love how his understanding that he deserves his punishment bored the Dark Powers evough to let him go one day.

It's ironically appropriate 😂

This is very interesting, I knew about him in Krynn during the War of the Lance. But I didn't know the rest that happened afterwards.

I would say it was a bit controversial what they did with him after, Ravenloft has a way of stealing iconic characters and using them for their own plots. I personally love it

@@The_NaturalOnes Fair enough, 3 of my favorite Deities in D&D are "The Raven Queen", "Myrkul", and "Garagos". The Raven Queen is considered controversial due to being "Forced" into 5e. But she is quite neat so I'm glad that happened. As for Garagos he was considered destroyed back in 3e maybe 3.5e, BUT because of it being a Multiverse nowadays in 5e. Theoretically you could find the remaining essence of him perhaps in the Astral Plane or something & work to restore him to power in a campaign. Similarly, Myrkul was considered lost/dead back in an earlier version of D&D. But you could do the same thing find the remaining essence of him and restore him to power as well.

@@morrigankasa570 Ya, I guess what I meant on Soth was he was taken from one setting and put into another. 4e really shook it up but ya the Raven Queen was one great change welcome to 5e. They have a nasty habit of killing people off in editions only to bring them back. I'm fine with it usually as long as it makes sense in the world?

@@The_NaturalOnes Yep, excellent point. Although it is easy to make it work going back to the idea of a Multiverse and certain Magics such as Dimension Door & Plane Shift as well as Portals.

fun fact, in one of soths adventures in ravenloft, he was banished to barovia, and he's so powerful, he invaded castle ravenloft of strahd von zarovich and strahd refused to fight him out of fear and instead just found a way to send him back.

That’s awesome, there is SO much out there about Soth. Obviously this doesn’t even really scratch the surface of his journeys in both settings.

And he built a VR chamber with mirrors like that mirror of Erised from Harry Potter so he ironically is the only person who's actually happy in Ravenloft.

Strahd doesn't refuse to fight him so much as stall for time because he knew one of soths new companions, a vistani seer, had betrayed him. Strahd knows as soon as Soth finds out he'll be so angry he goes after her. So rather than get into a personal fight with soth, Strahd hangs back and sends cannon fodder to keep him occupied. It ends up working out pretty well, soth does immediately forget about Strahd to go after the woman who "betrayed" him and/or he loves. Kind of his theme lol Shadow of the Black Rose is definitely worth a read if you ever get a chance.

Playing "Shadow of the Dragon Queen" right now. Loving this campaign, and looking forward to interacting/fighting Lord Soth. Thank you for the breakdown.

Long time ago, I played as a death knight as a introduction to dnd. I was naive then and chose a random deity named auril the ice maiden. Instead of casting fires that burned, i chose to freeze to preserve, to make my own ways to topple fate itself alongside my friends. Alas.... our enemy was a servant of korsus whom stole treasures of both oghma, his quill as well as sunes very brooch to forever preserve first loves sensations. To chase him down with these sacred treasures we had to traverse.... the realm of fire itself. Once he was dead, he had to remain for he wasn't of the living nor was he to be a hero. He stayed to desecrate korsus most loyal by encasinging him in a tower of ice for a entire year before they both perished forever.
