Tears For Fears: A nice, relaxing drive out in the countryside reminiscing of times long past. Lorde: A life or death battle that could very well determine the fate of every single person on the planet. Interesting how a simple tone shift can change how a song is interpreted isn't it?
Welcome to your life There's no turning back Even while we sleep We will find you Acting on your best behaviour Turn your back on mother nature Everybody wants to rule the world It's my own design It's my own remorse Help me to decide Help me make the most Of freedom and of pleasure Nothing ever lasts forever Everybody wants to rule the world There's a room where the light won't find you Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down When they do I'll be right behind you So glad we've almost made it So sad they had to fade it Everybody wants to rule the world Everybody wants to rule the world Everybody wants to rule the world
It’s “it’s my own desire”, not “design”. Desire and remorse are opposite urges, saying the two sentences back to back illustrates how duplicitous success and power can be.
I've always thought that Lorde's breakthrough song Royals sounds like Tears For Fears's Everybody Wants To Rule The World .... its a brilliant move to get the rights from Tears For Fears to cover the song, with that she can also release Royals without risking getting sued for the similarities ....
@@JuanTellechea The originals do it better smh. Lorde may be a good singer but everyone has to know that this isn't her original song and this is a cover and everyone should respect the original singers and songwriters of the original one.
@@vampirerockstar ...do you know what epic means? It means danger and adventure. So no, you can objectively say it does not sound epic. It sounds great and fun, but it is Lorde's version that denotes danger, adventure, odyssey (the first epic)
I never understood why people hated Lorde's voice. I personally never had a problem with it, and this is a good reason as to why. She delivered very strongly on this cover, making it sound darker, matching with the lyrics perfectly. While both versions are great, and the original is an all-out classic, I would say that, in my opinion, this is the better version because the theming works so much better.
@@kayamusic5696 you've heard a lot of her live music? Well mate, I've actually heard her live, and she's incredible. Maybe actually experience the thing you're critiquing before you open your mouth next time.
I wonder how many people actually know this is a cover? Thanks for all the likes, also it’s amazing seeing everyone argue about which version is better.
When u hear the original Song you know its about people who just wanna rule the world so they can have fun. But just by simply using your vocal chords and instruments. You can switch the theme and the song entirely. From a fun one to a dark one. This song is switched to everybody wants to rule the world for their own dark and twisted reasons.
its like both songs have the same lyrics, but they now mean something so different. Like when you say things in a different way and it gives off a different mood. She scored on this cover.
This cover is more dramatic than the original version. I think that the original song is slower and little bit happy. The meaning of this and the original song is very different.
Alyssa Soares Please stop trolling. Lorde is a transvestite family guy from Colorado who also happens to hold the record for the biggest crap ever taken. It has been confirmed by the European Fecal Standards and Measurements office.
sad, when lorde was around ppl didnt like her for her voice and deppresion sounding voice, then the billy eyelids comes around and its suddenly all fine. lorde and lana del rey was and will always be the best at these types of songs.
Lorde is the original billie just a copy. Billie tries too hard to be scary and lorde is naturally scary. Also we don't wanna talk about lanas "once upon a dream" wow Lorde: voice of battles and dark places Lana: voice of dreamy dark stories Billie: ...bye
love how the tone of the instrumental and mood of the voice can wildly change a song. the OG sounds very esoteric and spiritual in some way, but this version is gritty and viscious. i LOVE it
For everyone wondering, this song was recorded by Lorde originally for the Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack. It was later featured in the Assassins Creed Unity trailer, among other things.
I guess you didn't know that is not her song but a cover of Tears for Fears whom wrote and recorded this song though in a very different sounding tune in 1985 .
mo raven trust me, listen to the original version and pay attention to the lyrics. It’ll scare the shit out of you when you realize the depressing meaning.
@@viliusesmontas1515 well, if he wants to rule the world he better hurry up his shit. He's not exactly young and considering it's taken him 23 years to invade 1/2 countries. The US on the other hand...

Tears For Years: A song that is in the 19s for vibes and chills for your friends to hang out and spend time singing this song with everyone that you known and loved includes your family, a great music to always chill when you got back home from a hard day of school or work and pretty much it will give some happy vibes and memories Lorde: A deathmatch, a warfare, a sudden death between enemies from enemies fighting at each other to achieve victorious in death with no regrets and dread inside on their body, they won't stop until they finally achieve victory, an endless war trying to claim the win, tried to be the first one will achieve their victory and bring justice the enemies they face
I prefer tears for fears (probably because I've loved that version for years) but this is amazing too. It gives me dueling the enemy during a war vibes
they are not comparable. One is Tears for Fears and that's slow with a different genre and meaning. This is war based, a different genre and more meaningful lyrics due to the situational beat.
Lorde's version of Tears For Fears' "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" is made like that TO FIT the movie "The Hunger Games Catching Fire". Notice the darkness of the song? She didn't ruin the song, okay? :) FYI, I knew about this song through Cartoon Network's Power Puff Girls when Mojo Jojo sang it. :D
"Help me make the most freedom and of pleasure. Nothing ever lasts forever." I love this part because that's the way I decided to turn my life into after I woke up from a coma on the hospital. Many things are life changers, but not ever powerful as a good memento mori.

"Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is a song by English pop rock band Tears for Fears from their second studio album Songs from the Big Chair (1985). It was written by Roland Orzabal, Ian Stanley, and Chris Hughes and produced by Hughes. It was released on 22 March 1985 by Phonogram, Mercury, and Vertigo Records
I feel like the one by Tears For Fears is the best because it's the first version I heard (back when I was little). I really love this though because it adds a sinister and menacing tone to it.
I loved this version of Lorde! It takes a lot of talent to remake such an emblematic classic ...Adorei essa versão da Lorde! É preciso muito talento para remake de um clássico tão emblemático...
I came from The Voice's Sheldon Riley performance. When I heard the original version, I realized that I'd heard the song before at work and never picked up that was what the song was. The original is cool and so is Lorde's version, but Sheldon's version won my heart.
I'm honestly sick and tired of people criticizing this song because it's 'dark' and other crap like it, first hand the version of the song was meant for the Hunger Games and Assassins Creed Unity used it too, I mean both of those things consists of violence and gore, so their franchises aren't just gonna use some happy go lucky version from 1980. I'm sorry if I somehow hurt your feelings by saying my opinion (and c'mon there are those people who take offense to someone saying something different than they said) it's my opinion, so do what you want to do, you have your opinions I have mine...
@@chronocorvus7886 not really, its just a dark version of an upbeat song with dark lyrics I dont see how it fits with Loki or really any characters from fandoms outside 1984 inspired worlds
@@Autumn_Frost Neither did I. I didn't know people used this song. Probably because I want literally nothing to do with Tik-Tok and I avoid watching anything from them at literally any cost possible..
I prefer this version over the original from Tears for Fears. The feel-vibe it gives you is darker and more ominous, which I think is more suited for the message.
I don't think this version suits it the best. It feels more like one of my friend's covers. The original gives you a different feeling, totally different from this, and that was the feel they were going for.
I love it when people get pissy over covers. If an artist covers a song it shows that original has to be pretty damn good. I've always seen covers as respect towards the original artists or bands
This song reminds me of every last book in all of Rick Riordan's mythology book series (The Serpent's Shadow, Blood of Olympus, The Ship of the Dead, and The Tower of Nero). The perfect last charge song when everything seems hopeless but all the characters we come to love save the world in their own heroic, quirky way!
Years ago, someone put this over the cutscene from Metal Gear Phantom Pain, where Quiet is being strangled and she goes berserk and reeks havoc on her captors. If anyone finds that vid, send it to me. It was beautiful with this song playing in the background.
"Nothing is true" Shows the never ending lies people will say to get there way. "Everything is permitted" Shows the lengths people will go to achieve there goals.
