I want you to know I listened to this audio-only at work because I was nostalgic for the voice lines. It did not disappoint. Thank you. Taking poTaking TakTaking position TaTaTaking position Mounted and Taking position Mounted and ready
I had this game as a demo when I was young, only able to play as the life lord. It stuck in my head all these years and I was wondering what the game was called since its been so long. Somehow in my memory the graphics were a lot better... I didn't even realize it was a 2d game until now. If only there was a remake for this made properly...
Dude, I have been trying to find this game ever since I was a child too. I always got stuck on heroes of might and magic, and I knew it wasn’t right. Then all of a sudden I saw the box art in the background of a gaming expo vlog and now I’m here. Good times.
i had the demo from a civil war game when i was a kid and i found thne full version later. 20 years later i bought it again through steam for only 4.99
That would be the demo on Robert E Lee's Civil War General (a very fine game itself, by the way). I had that one too, and for whatever reason the enjoyment of that demo made this the game I wanted to get more than any other in my life (next up was Star Wars Rebellion). Seeing as I rarely actually got games back then, I didn't get it for many years...but I was eventually able to, and by golly it was still as much fun to play then as I had always hoped!
One of my favorite games. Just installed special edition on my pc again and thought maybe there is something about this game to be found on youtube . Nice playthrough 🎉
The Life War Lord is a pain to keep alive at the start of a game but he becomes an excellent unit at max level. Good to see a playthrough with this Lord choice
My God, this brings back so many memories. One of the first PC games I ever played back in the late 1990s. I remember playing the Light faction because I thought the elvish archers were so cool. Then when I unlocked Death faction, it was GG. Dark Javs were hella cool. Man I miss this
I have been playing the game wrong this entire time! I like to get mages and life archers, spam spells and potions while the archers wear the health of my enemies down, then autocalc right before they reach my units and win most of my battles that way lol. Chain Lightning on a powerful air mage is just too strong! Time for a new playthrough!
He's trying to arrow dodge. Archers in this game pick a specific target and calculate where they think it'll be when the arrow lands, based on its current speed and direction, and the arrow flies to that point. If it changes direction while the arrow is in flight and their target isn't there when the arrow arrives, the unit take no damage, and no one else can be hit. By contrast, defense stance transfers something like 50% of your attack into your defense, which makes you much harder to damage, but ranged units will use that aimed missile ability to bypass part of your defenses, and can still hurt. So arrow dodging, if done right, is much less risky against archers, but can be stopped completely by melee units, who are unaffected by it. And he clearly doesn't know there's an easier way to arrow dodge. If you tap D and click on your unit while it's moving (and not on either its starting tile or target tile), it will start to walk in place and turn random directions, fooling archers into shooting wildly. If this fails and an arrow lands or a melee unit attacks, it hits at the higher defense and the unit enters a normal defense stance. Discovered that one by accident one day. I thought it was a bug until I saw the unit keep turning circles and arrows flying every which way. Now it's my default stance for mages after they finish casting spells. Be aware that spell damage also breaks the stance.
Truly an exceptional game. Incredibly fun single player. I always wanted to try it multiplayer but to be fair the rounds would take absolutely forever.
@@sebastianeder2242 Well one single other player isn't so bad, but imagine if all 8 were real players! I am jealous, y'all must be having an absolute blast!
No not really Fae slingers are op not only can they camp in unpassable terrain since they are flying units but they also take -50% less damage from ranged attacks due to resistance. The second best ranged units are chaos stick throwers due to very very fast rate of fire especially at later levels their range is good aswell just low dmg. Try to start with an army of stick throwers and they will rape melee and ranged units alike. Skeletons rape Archers since they have 67% ranged resistance have very fast attack just low movement speed.
And by Lord of the Rings (to the point where it was likely a LOTR game at one point in development), Arthurian Legend, Greek mythology, and Ray Harryhausen movies. Seriously, the models look like what he'd do (not the Cyclops, so much), especially the skeletons.
Sry for my english. But did you know about bag as: if you move the staff into hand and back? the armor of your worship of life will increase by +1 permanently. You can make him immortal )))
i don't think i ever tried anything other than OBS. a lot of these old games need some work to be able to record, usually the solution is window capture, with some forced window mode, but i don't remember what i did here.
Death is a special race, it starts with the Bat and all lesser champion classes, i haven't played them till the end, but their goal is probably to kill all other lords, so it will be pretty much a endurance gameplay.
Do you have the GOG or the Steam version? I´ve read the GOG version is patched with a beta patch that makes it too easy because too strong units are spawned...don´t know if this is still the case.
it's gog version, looks like steam have the same problem. and you meant it becomes impossible to win. Chaos level 1 spawn pegasus which is a legendary creature you can't kill it, so chaos race is unplayable. I had a similar issue, after killing fire lord, a dragon spawned and it killed my units one by one, and i had a full party, not fully leveled though. It seems there is a fix i will check it later.
not sure if defense worked with movement, i dont think i ever tried. but defending on hold position wasnt enough he would always die at the start on hard
@@IceToneGaming I hope you mean using the "defend" ability and targeting the active unit. I recently tested to see if defending a point on the map made any difference (casual experience told me no) and from what I can see, the only effect that command has is leashing your unit to that point on the map. It's otherwise identical to telling him to move to that spot or attack a target nearby. So if that's what you were doing before, it's no wonder you would die. To get the extra defense, your unit has to target itself with the defend command, which gives up its attack entirely. But there is a hidden use of defense. Discovered this by accident years ago, and I thought it was a bug at first. If you target the active unit with defend *while it is moving*, it will walk in place and turn random directions to confuse archers based on its speed. So life warriors are better at this than order footmen. If it takes damage, the unit will go back to a stationary defense stance, but the attack still hits the superior defense. And if it was a spell or an arrow that broke the stance, you can just order it to move and restart the stance, but if it was melee units, there's no point until they're gone. I've used this many times now to get through pure archer encounters with little to no damage taken. It can even work for archers or mages who are getting targeted, provided they have the speed to make it work (higher speed = arrows aimed further ahead = a smaller vector for arrows to hit the right spot). edit: btw, I just tried this start to see how strong it would be, and with that defense trick, plus a normal defense stance against melee foes, I was able to move really, really fast, hardly taking any damage at all. By day 14 I had my great temple and level 5 mine and my first level 4 archer. By day 20 I had cleared most of the structures around my capital, claimed one of the neighboring villages, and upgraded my stronghold to 2. Would have owned water as well except I didn't realize they had an advanced start and already owned their temple. But that's where I started to feel like I needed some infantry, because things kept rushing past me to chase the archers. Also, don't put archers under your warrior unless you have no melee units ... warrior rally gives +1 attack +1 defense and nothing on range, so it's mostly useful for buffing melee units. And don't move normal units separately from champions unless you're in no hurry. They're slower without someone to guide them.
haha that fight against javelins is actually the hardest fight, after that the game was won, i actually had lost a few times to them before got this done because they can easily kill my hero. I wasnt sure at the time if final boss had more with them, but high ground helped a lot.
That was painful to watch, why didnt you at least have a bunch of dryads guarding the temple, and the way ur theif died, plus, its better to use a warrior to defend while the archers take the enemies out. Super awesome game though
@@aaadj2744 It just never resonated with me. I got Majesty at about the same time and instantly loved it. I felt there were more things that could have been fleshed out.
