Lords of the Fallen - Get Good Or Die Trying

Reminds me of Soul Reaver, where you had the normal world and a spectral plane that you'd go through to solve puzzles as well.

I was impressed to see him beat that first boss on the first attempt. He definitely has to revisit the souls games now and do a proper playthrough, maybe Dark Souls 3 because it's the most similar to Elden Ring, and it would be fun to watch.

The lantern makes me think of the Timepiece given to you by the Outsider in Dishonored 2. It lets you see into an alternate timeline and travel to (and from) it in order to solve puzzles and work your way past obstacles.

A decade of development either means the game is absolutely amazing or it is a trashfire. No inbetweens.

For me, it's either this or Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2; but I will play it at some point. And you can tell Jon has really improved thanks to his Elden Ring adventures.

I'm starting to get sick of Souls and Soulslike games where the protagonist is like 4ft tall, yet not actually a Dwarf...

Lords of the Fallen still barely functions on my series x. The combat is like dark souls if your weapons were made of cardboard. Any ambition this game has is buried underneath a wealth of technical issues. This was my most anticipated game of the year and I have never been more disappointed in a game.

So, ten years dev cycle gets you mixed reviews on release day and stealing the gimmick from the Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver titles.

They didn't wanna copy just Dark Souls homework, so they copied Soul Reaver's too, got it.

For YEARS I've thought games were missing out on exploiting the gambit in Soul Reaver. It's good to see another game get the gist.

Jon seems to be struggling in part because his natural inclination when someone attacks is to dodge away from them directly. And it seems their combos are set up to punish that. Probably needs to aggressively dodge in this game. Dodge towards the enemy to get on the other side of their combos.

This just feels like Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and Dark Souls had a child, but I'm not sure what to think of it...

I enjoyed watching you play this, I think a more essay-like video might be of value after a live stream, you've played a few souls-like games by now and you could critique them and compare them :D

Reminds me of Metroid Prime 2 mixed with Dark Souls; sounds like a good time.

The soulslike genre sure is running out of ideas. It's all the same basic thing and nobody's moving away from the established path. Boring. Pass.

What if Effect and Cause from Titanfall 2 was a soulslike. Alright I'm down

One day someone would make a Soulslike that wasn't set in a grimdark, crapsack world.

So many souls like’s are just like copy and paste the mechanics into another plot line or whatever and it’s really refreshing to see a unique twist in the formula with there being two overlapping worlds and layers of death.

I was sure he was going to die at 26:16 (sword guy, axes guy and dog), but he impressively made the right moves and survived! As for a livestream, I'd rather see a Dark Souls livestream (1, 2 or 3), as this just looks like a DS clone. And the two worlds thing looks a bit annoying as it breaks the pure combat/exploration fun of a souls-like game with puzzle solving elements. Could just add extra frustration.

I have zero interest in these games, that means more for you.

it doesn't get more souls like... Don't understand why frustratingly difficult and bright and colourful in world and character are mutually exclusive in them. Bit of legacy of Kaine Soul Reaver (not like) mixed in at least.

So, this is a soulslike with the fnaf security breach: ruin mask. Interesting.

This is a remake of Lords of the Fallen, not a sequel or reboot. It got remade because far from reviewing and selling well enough, the original was a mess that was widely panned by both critics and the public before quietly slipping into obscurity. The original devs, Deck 13, weren't exactly removed from the project either; they were contracted to make the original by the publisher and after it was done they moved onto their own projects. LotF was never their baby. There was some talk of a sequel but after the failure of the first game those plans were quietly shelved. This remake is a huge improvement on the original, although it has been suffering from widely reported technical issues; we may see a sequel for this at some point, who knows.

My dad beat the first game lol. And I also played and enjoyed it.

BTW my other comment in no way counteracts my wish to see you do a ME2 Legendary run followed by some day.... ME3. Just saying.

You know maybe the whole Souls genre is played out now. Lies of P is great, but then there was also Jedi Survivor, Remnant 2 and now this. All of which were met with a resounding "eh" from people.

Beautiful to look at definitely worth more of your dual deaths.

Day 1165 of requesting Zoo Tycoon. Hearing that a game that took roughly ten years to produce is actually semi-good is giving me hope for lots of projects people seem to abandon eventually regaining new life... even my own! "Murder on the Saurian Express" isn't as dead as my brain made me think!

Jon: "I got gud" Me: "Jon you literally summoned help from a computer ally to beat the boss down before you beat her. That's like saying you can fly a plane by turning on the autopilot for the landing and takeoff."

I've never cared for games where you have to die to continue the story/plotline. Never finished planescape torment, quit demons souls when I chose paths poorly, dislike roguelikes and generally despise the "party loses here" storylines. At least in DMC, if you beat the first boss they roll you the end credits.
