@2:50 - But.. isn't Alaundo more like a historical Nostradamus figure, not a god? Made a bunch of prophecies, which Candlekeep's monks keep alive in the Endless Chant (as seen in the prologue of the old Baldur's Gate game, including the verses that predict the Bhaalspawn) but they didn't seem to worship him.
No one is left from the old TSR days. WoTC is light on loremasters. Probably explains why they don't really release campaign settings or sourcebooks anymore. At least they sort of try to put out these videos on lore
Ever wonder how Candle Keep could be in fact a palace of a fortified gate in essence concerning the upper, under, lower dark as well as The Plane of Shadow, Ethereal, Fey Wilds & so on? It certainly has the capacity concerning the world below...
Damn I equated this to a university too ! Only just before he brought it up. The adventurers are prospective students and the wise professors of wizards, sages, clerics etc live amongst one another in the towers. Wow a dnd college. Love it
It reminded me of Wong she tongs library from Avatar too! So naturally, in my game only the highest tower rises above the ground ;) it’s kinda like Saint Michael’s Mount where if you want to get to that spire above the ground then you have to time it right at low tide when the water recedes and you can walk up to it, otherwise you’d have to swim there and who knows what’s lurking in the water :)
We actually made a whole supplement about Candlekeep on the DMs Guild, with consultation and design by Ed Greenwood! Elminster's Candlekeep Companion: www.dmsguild.com/m/product/311436
