Hey! We are travelling from Scotland to LA on September 12th! Taking your advice and staying in 2 areas over 7 days. Anaheim for 3 days and then moving up to main LA for 4 days. My question: Is West Athens an ok place to stay? We have options in Westwood and Downtown, but West Athens shows a more affordable modern option. Thanks! Richard

Born in Long Beach, raised in Australia. I was doing long 2-3 month trips before Covid, each time, I try to immerse myself in the LA communities to try and get a feel for what it might have felt like to grow up there. Love your vids for local knowledge. I’ve stayed in several Airbnb’s, Torrance, Gardena, Long Beach, Anaheim, MacArthur Park and Hollywood. Some are good, some sketchy, so all your info is great. Hoping to get back next summer!

Congrats on another super informative presentation, Chris. As you know, I’m an avid fan of your channel, but I specially enjoy your videos where you pick a city and cover all the bases in great detail; including the elaboration of a comprehensive, step by step, trip planning guide. Of course, you could only present us with your own particular take on a city (especially one as large as LA), but it gives us a useful overview and a great starting point to outline and organize our own trips. I’m hoping, as time permits, you’d do more of these comprehensive coverages for other destinations, as well.

Super helpful for a Los Angeles trip. I really liked The Getty museum. Anyone remotely interested in art history will not be disappointed. But what makes it unique is the location up the hill with the stunning views, the unique architecture, and the gardens. Note: timed ticked required

Great video! And the others you list are fantastic too (I already saw them all). I'm planning visit LA + SD + Vegas soon and see your videos is the best thing to prepared myself. I just thing SD isn't a day trip to LA because there are so many places (Zoo, Balboa Park, Seaworld, Legoland and much more) too see and do.

Hi Chris, Great video. The family and I have travelled to the States about 9 times since 2006 and we have driven there each time. Your tips are welcomed and are very sensible. As an LA local you are pretty much spot on. I'd like to add that LA does have a slow but growing metro system. In 2023/2024 we will see some new rail line extensions making it possible to visit even more places without a car including LACMA/La Brea Tar Pits/Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and LAX via people mover. You also didn't mention the CA Science Center & the Natural History Museum, African American Museum, and soon the George Lucas Museum. This area is rail accessible too.

In my opinion Redondo Beach south of the pier is the best beach in LA County. Also lots of restaurants and bars in the Redondo Riviera Village area.

I’ve only got halfway through but have to mention a few things . South of downtown is the Coliseum, USC and the Science museum complex . Train station near. The Getty Villa in Malibu is free but you have to pay for parking. It’s gorgeous. You can take the train ( metrolink ) from downtown to Santa Monica and even down to Anaheim ( Disney). The only problem with Anaheim is getting back . Check the schedule. And this brings us to cars. Santa Monica, downtown, Hollywood, Universal all have train stops . So does the art museum and tar pits. sunset doesn’t . You can plan around not having a car for a few days then you’ll need one. Plus if have to take Amtrak suddenly it’s worth getting a car. If a trip to Disney is going to cost you $20 a person by train, once you get to three people it’s cheaper to rent a car. That’s probably best, do the train adjacent spots first then rent the car. But if you rent the car then you can still do the train adjacent spots and other spots at the same time.....that’s why everyone drives . Also Marina Del Rey is a good place to stay close to the airport. It’s got restaurants and supermarkets. Close to Venice and Abbott Kinney blvd the hip part. It’s ten minutes from the airport via Lincoln and you never have to take the freeway.

@@YellowProductions Also along Lincoln in Marina Del Rey used to be Carroll Shelby's Cobra factory! in the 60s they used to test out their cars and race them before the Marina was built. You are also near Playa Vista and the Ballona wetlands. Great for birdwatching. You drive right past it on Lincoln from the Airport. You can see it on your map .

Hi John -- Glendale is a nice safe area.. Only issue is that it's way to the North of most LA attractions and not that central. But if you're OK doing a lot of driving it's all good :)

Went to Los Angeles December 2019, from Scotland, great weather did go most of the tourists places. I went to China Town but did not think much of it seemed really small could not find any decent places to visit. I did ended up near Skid Row by mistake not much distance from downtown , also is Malibu could visit

Oh-I wanted you to talk about parking, kind of like-what we would be expecting if we had a rental car and we make all these stops at these places and have to park the car-what should we be expecting and whats the best way to find parking, is there an app? Or are there best areas to park in terms of each major attraction. Thank you

Usually the website of the place you're going to will have a parking recommendation. Pro tip. Don't be cheap and park in a sketchy lot or garage. Pay a little more for something that appears supervised or at least not sketchy

For families, I’d would highly recommend Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park - a fun, regional theme park. Less crowded and much less expensive that Disneyland. Plenty to do, and their amazing “Camp Snoopy” will keep younger kids busy and happy all day, with generally shorter lines than Disneyland. And, yes, there are other rides and attractions for the whole family, generally on par with Disneyland. Teenagers and young adults will prefer Six Flags Magic Mountain, just north of LA.

I'd say add San Diego if you like beaches or want to see the San Diego zoo. Otherwise with 10 days you can easily fill that up with San Francisco and LA. Lots of great stops on the way between LA and San Francisco too

I was born in and grew up until I was a teen in L.A. Since then, I've lived all over the US, and I have to say that L.A. is probably one of the least attractive places I've lived or been. I visit relatives frequently and always feel low-key depressed while im there because, aside from the beach, it's all traffic, brown grass and strip malls. It's a relief to get out of there back to green grass, trees, and little animals everywhere.

Hi Paul... yeah... Burbank is a little more North of the main LA touristy stuff than I usually I recommend... so you'll be doing quite a bit of transiting... but I'd say Burbank is an okay place to stay

Certainly downtown Disney is great at night. And I think the area right around the intersection of Harbor and Katella is fairly busy at night. Outside of that I wouldn't wander to too far away. And yes.. Ubers are plentiful around Disneyland

The mall is open. But its under construction. When I was there last week the typical Hollywood sign viewing area was not open

I’ve booked a hotel in Pasadena, Pasadena rose & crown hotel. You say Pasadena is far. How long is it by car to the tourist attractions like the walk of fame and the Santa Monica pier for example? Great video!!!

About 30 minutes to Hollywood from Pasadena driving.. Santa Monica about 45 minutes. But if your going at traffic times then double those times

I plan to stay one night in Santa Monica. Which hotel would you suggest between Hotel Carmel, Sea Blue Hotel and Hilton Santa Monica? All are about the same price. Thanks!
