Getting Some Training In And Taking A Look At Some Fascinating Los Angeles History In Rubio Canyon. Something A Little Different This Week. #losangeles #hiking
Howdy there! Really glad you enjoyed! This place just continues to fascinate me no matter how many times I go. Beautiful place. I spotted a different trail when I was there the other week, going to check that out next. Be well, cheers
The whole My Lowe railway amazes me. Been up Rubio before, so cool to get some info on it. Question: all the piping from 1998 what was supposed to help with??
It’s really fascinating for sure! People took interesting adventure / business mixed risks back then. So originally when the pipe was installed during the late 1800s from what I understand, this supplied Altadena with like 70% of the fresh water supply they needed. Going into 98 to repair the broken pipe, if I’m remembering correctly, Altadena still relies on fresh water from the canyon at like 10-15%. So it was important the piping was repaired after the 94 earthquake. There’s now a water reclaim plant at the base of the canyon that collects surface runoff and so on that now supplies the majority of fresh water for Altadena. Really cool place! Those upper water falls are worth checking out Cheers
