The neighbors have been trying to get someone out there to clean that up for a decade and the only reason the city of Los Angeles finally decided to get off their lazy asses and do something about it is because they took it to the news.
smh people these days complaining about an “eye sore.” That’s not a real problem, just look away or close their eyes. They should mind their own business. It’s a waste of government resources.
@@leoncraftmc it's not just an eye sore. When that eye sore starts bringing in pests like rats and roaches, then it also compromises the entire neighborhood's health, not just their view.
@@leoncraftmc So the rat and roach infestation that spills over to the innocent neighbours should just be ignored? I am gonna take a wild guess that your living situation looks similar to this garbage heap.
anyone who puts their family members, OLDER family members through that needs help. poor woman cannot do anything. practically being held prisoner by her son's mental illness.
@@clementine2234 Notice how they refuse to call it elder abuse, which is a crime. This isn’t a major mental illness. The son probably started off small and over years and years it got too big to the point where he just gave up trying to fix it.
I find it very hard to believe that the 90-year-old mother was "safe and healthy" living in those conditions. The roach & rat droppings alone would be an extreme health hazard, not to mention trip hazards, fire hazard, mold, mildew, rot, and a million other possibilities.
Thinking the same. Those pests have been allowed to flourish unhindered for 10+ years inside that house so it seems like it would be too expensive to 'fix'. I really hope that it can be and that the son accepts help for his hoarding.
Do you mean that you don't believe that the city "Officials" who have ignored neighbors complaints for ten years? Do you really think these city "Officials" would just say the old woman is okay just to cover their asses? Yeah, I guess I can see your point.
@@firstnamelastname7708 this same RU-vid channel "inside edition" posted a video about it but it's actually a different hoarder's house in New York where two deceased people were found not this house shown on this video (which is in La).
Should have called the Sheriff. He cleaned up the entire neighborhood of Venice in a matter of weeks. LA city is allergic to picking up or moving trash off the sidewalk.
I’m so glad the home owner agreed to have her property cleaned up. I hope that her son gets the help he needs from healthcare professionals. Inside Edition please update us when the home is clean!
This makes most people smile/sneer in disgust; yet it's a very sad psychological condition, based on the fear of lacking. This man does need help- and he probably inherited the behavior from his mother.
@@fart63 Why not? This comment chain was started because of assumptions. Just because I spout out an assumption that you don't like doesn't mean that I don't have the right to make assumptions anymore.
My dads a hoarder but nothing like this. A lot of Elders don't like throwing anything away and it gets to the point where it's a never ending battle. You toss something and they'll retrieve it back from the trash to store away again. 😭
He most likely learned the behavior from her. Obviously, at 9o years old, it isn't her any longer, but many grandmothers in Korea keep everything they can save, it's a disorder born from the fear of lacking. For thehe newest Korean generations, it's the opposite, they put anything and everything in the trash, due to a lack of space. When I lived there, I got half my furniture and some real nice clothing from it, the building janitor even saved the best items for me!
That young man is right. The town finally demolished an old motel near my church. It was full of rats which then migrated across the street to where the nuns lived. They had to give up their chicken coup because the rats kept eating the feed and harassing the chickens. They also destroyed the garden. The nuns adopted 3 feral cats from a city group and it took care of the rat problem.
Daaaaamn! Bet they reached out to the show “Horders” and they declined to help because it would have taken a whole season worth of episodes to clean it up! They need another house for gods sake! Why would any son do this to his 90yr old mother! Shame on him!
Because hes sick and he clearly needs help. Hording is a mental health issue and a true cry for help. Something like that should be taken seriously. I hope when APS takes over for his 90 year old mother that they offer him services as well!
Just imagine all the 'nasties' that will indeed look for a new place to hide, and the smell. That son who created this mess should be fined and forced to get help so this doesn't happen again. In his mind, once cleaned up he'll be excited to refill it.
The other concern they should have is the hoarder continuing to hoard after everything is cleaned up; you can't fix mental health issues by cleaning their house.
The last guy has a legitimate concern, an ex girlfriend of mine lived in an apartment and when the welfare lady next door got kicked out her apartment got infested with cockroaches that came from dirty lady's place. Luckily one of my buddies worked for pest control and took care of the problem for free.
@@BarocaS2 I understand, but go hoard at your own house! Nobody should be blamed for their mental illness, however it is your own responsibility to seek help which is definitely not what this man did.
My guess is he feels overwhelmed when thinking about trying to even start the process of cleaning it up. Once it’s gone he’ll probably feel the burden lifted and will avoid starting it back up.
Here's the thing, the neighbor has been making complaints for years and nothing was done til now. If that was a rich neighborhood, it would have been taken care of much sooner.
If this has been a problem for years it should have been addressed by the city years ago, especially since they knew there was an elderly woman living there. If your entire property is essentially a landfill that creates problems for the neighboring houses...bugs, rodents, etc. Great job LA 🙄
Lol...yes but of all places, L.A holds Artistic expression to a high regard, & regulate it to protected individual right of expression....it is California afterall!!!🤭🤭😂🤣
It should have never been allowed to get that bad! Yeah, sure, wait until there’s a neighborhood wide issue with pests related to this hoard THEN deal with it. Poor neighbors!!! How freaking horrible
My sister lives like this. She's been a hoarder for 30 years since her 20's. Brand new stuff left out in the rain to rot...there is NO fixing this mental illness.
Thank you inside Edition for helping the neighbors get the city’s attention after a decade of ignoring the problem, I hope you continue coverage to make sure that the city in fact takes care of this health and safety hazard. The city should fine the son for creating this problem
So who’s paying for the cleanup? Did the agreement with the owner include a lien against the home upon her death? At least with the lien her nutbag son pays for it one way or the other.
@ Annette Melnychuk Ethically yes. Think about the legality. Yes the son should be charged, yet if the property is not in his name, there is no legal recourse.
@@annetteslife so what it’s a 90 year old woman? Does that excuse or outweigh the taxpayers having to foot the bill for cleaning up this biohazard? So what it’s the son’s junk - the owner of the property needs to pay the bill, wether that’s her, her son or her sons dog should matter one iota.
Adult protective services need to really dig deep I to the health and safety of this elderly woman. She's been breathing in filthy air and exposed to dirt, mold, animal feces etc. I hope she's the priority 🙏
Once again this isn’t hoarding. Possible elder abuse coupled with operating an illegal dumping business. Does LA not have ordinances that don’t need the property owners permission when it becomes an obvious health hazard? Vibrate ❤️
Those poor neighbors. They seem like.very nice.people. It's a shame they've had to deal with this for so long. I thought had a lot of stuff. My husband will never complain after I show him this video!
The 90 year old woman owns the house .Her 60-70 year old son did this. He needs the fine..not her but she's the owner The owners get fined..not tenants that aren't on a lease. How's she gonna get that kind of money?
The poor woman-(90 year old trapped in housd). I hope adult protective services can help. Maybe she can get some home aid services and they can ban her son from burying her in garbage again.
My grandma was severely schizophrenic and a hoarder. 4 of her 5 children became hoarders too. I had to make special rules for myself like no saving empty food containers to reuse so that I could break the cycle. I wasn't taught how to clean or get rid of things so these basic concepts were difficult when I became a grown-up. Now I am close to being a minimalist
That house definitely has to be condemned. Hoarders usually have some kind of trauma. I hope she finds a safe place to live and I hope her son gets the help he so desperately needs. Let the haters hate! I know I am going to get bashed for this.
i don't get how people live like that. when i moved in my houses i picked up all the trash under the house and around the property even the smallest pieces of styrophome and ripped pieces of gum rappers.
Had a similar problem in DC and couldn't get the city to do a thing. Told me as long as the garbage was contained in his house they couldn't do anything even though his house was connected to mine and the mice, roaches and gnats from rotting meat was infesting my house. They blamed that on me to pass the buck. Let me leave a card table next to my super can for trash and I get a $500 fine. Government is absolutely useless!!
What about the son who is a hoarder. Hoarding to this extent is considered a mental illness. How will he adapt after the cleaning? How will he be effected and will he seek treatment? If he doesn't have the means for treatment, what next? My heart goes out to the homeowner and her son.
