@@MTC008 Good catch! That does appear to be an updated version of the 3rd generation Caprice. I know there was an update for the 80-85 model years, and another update for the 86-90 model years, but since I can't see the headlamps, I can't tell which model it is.
Loved it! I'm a gearhead, so to me seeing old cars in their prime is very entertaining. I saw a few cars like the ones I owned back in the day. Thanks for the video!!
My neighbor once told me that by 1975, everyone would have there cars from the 60s and 70s but he would still be driving his 1956 Chevy bel air. (As of 2021, he still has it and it drives like a dream)
Can't wait for facial recognition, chip implantation, and self driving cars. Yeah right! I want to go back to the 70's. Badass cars, music, vinyl, etc.
Back in those days the cars were so easy to fix and required no computer to tell you there is a misfire These days you connect a scanner that tells you that there are multiple misfires detected and my answer is -no shit - and 200$ later
You mean it has become central america because the Mexicans have been here long before it became america and they were the true native americans but even though I wish I could go back to 1975 and re- visit soul train and and many other shows we had and people of All ethnicity got along and now thanks to the internet our social ability just gone down what 80 fuckin percent
Are you kidding? I don’t think it was possible to have more fun . I was arrested 3 times for having too much fun ( 1 DUI ,1 possession of marijuana, 1 time for being in a place where marijuana was being smoked ( cops had no evidence because I ate it ) Stones , zeppelin, who , dead etc concerts Big Sur , Yosemite hiking , So Cal beach’s, beautiful So Cal girls in tube tops and cut off Levi’s. Oh yeah . I did end up paying a price for starting so late into adulthood but it was worth it .
Your perception doesn't match reality. LA was in the midst of the PCP epidemic in the early '80s with drive-by shootings and turfs wars between street gangs like the Crips and Bloods. I know it's just a movie, but watch the movie "Colors" from the mid '80s for a taste of what was going on in LA at that time. The violent crime rate was double in the '80s what it is now and "Illegals" were every bit the problem back then that they are now.. As for "livability" of LA in the early '80s, smog was so much worse than now, and gasoline prices and interest rates for cars and homes were through the roof with the prime rate pushing 20%. Yeah, there were fewer cars and people in SoCal back then, but there were also fewer freeways and the ones that were there had fewer lanes, no diamond lanes, etc. I lived there then and now and there are things I miss about the '80s, but also things I don't miss. Both then and now have pros and cons.
@@662wc5 Brilliant! You belong to the few who could actually analyze information and past experience and come to a sensible conclusion. Pollution was high; environmental concerns were low on the priority list. Compton and neighboring communities were a cesspool of gang warfare and violence. Then came the riots of 1992.
Cars of the 70's were so much better looking than the rolling "suppositories" of today! 🤣😂🤣 I remember Giorgio's in Beverly Hills... went there once while in college on the 80's, with a couple of friends. The girl tried on $2,000.00 cocktail dresses for fun, while my other friend and I had glass of wine while browsing cashmere sweaters, and checking out the pool table! 🥂🎱 We managed to see Larry Gatlin of the "Gatlin Brothers" leaving with a suit from Jerry Magnin, and Richard Simmons walking on the sidewalk. 😎 Oh, the good old days in LA, before it went to shit! 😝
I was a teenager then in Los Angeles how I wish I could go back in time if I knew what was coming I would have treasured every single day …. Those were the days my friend I loved the sixties even more!!!! Everything changed in the early eighties!
The Beetle was the most common car in America for a few years. Remember when the Auto Trader was chock-full of them? Now you hardly ever see one, at least the old style.
Just imagine being there watching a concert of your favourite band and then you could meet all those amazing rock musicians from the 70s...the dream of a "groupie" like me, I wanna cry
@@redtra236 Yeah, seat belt use was almost nonexistent. I was that rare teenager back then that wore both the lap and shoulder belts when I drove. Aside from the obvious safety aspect of buckling up, the car actually drove and handled better with the belts buckled. It was my grandfather's hand me down 1970 Buick Electra. One night a couple of years later the belts along with the size and quality of the Electra saved me in a head on collision with a drunk driver in a Chevrolet suburban. The general driving population was just too dumb and lazy to buckle up. My Electra had separate lap and shoulder belts with two separate buckles to fasten which most thought was a terrible inconvenience. I always got in the car, pushed in the cigarette lighter, buckled up both belts, lit a cigarette and then drove off. Two habits that continue to this day.
@@redtra236 You are probably correct, but the seat belts most likely saved my life or at least prevented serious injuries when I was in a head on collision when I was 20. The jury is still out on the smoking habit.
Thanks for posting. Someone from the 1970's would be shocked how clean L.A.'s air is today (those cars were actually rolling chimneys) ... and how crappy pretty much everything else is.
Yeah, about the only thing that has actually improved since that time is air quality. Smog was WAY worse back then compared to what it is now, even with more cars on the road these days. I can remember major smog alerts and PE being canceled at school because the air was so bad. LA was covered in a perpetual brown cloud of toxic air. This must have been filmed on an rare clear day, maybe after a bit of rain.
The air was bad late 60’s but not every single day. We had pretty wet years where the air was cleaned out consistently and vehicle smog systems were around by mid 70’s. Some days were better than others. Even though life is easier now people still think it’s difficult today. Those cars you see broke down constantly. There was not much comfort for the little guy with no pc’s, no cell phones, no vcrs or dvds, no laptops, cars that really underperformed compared to today, no cable tv (just a few channels).
@@mmartin5707 Comfort is what you make of it. We didn't have PC's or cell phones or vcr's but we didn't need them or want them because they didn't exist. We were plenty comfortable back then and we never longed for anything more.
@@shrayesraman5192 I agree 💯 I grew up in the late 80' early 90's in LA very dangerous lots of drive-by's car jackings ECT..but now it's just as crazy I think but in a whole nether way
at2.37 the same person driving the 2 front and back cars at the same time !! i lived the 70's and i wanna live it again&again!! what delicious life!!!! specially New York city !!!!
Whoever made this video thank you so much you showed so many places I think about and miss cause they're gone I literally cried you filmed what would sum up as my life even showing the hospital I was born at off of Vermont and Fountain when I wa born there in "72"it was called "Cedars of Lebanon" it moved to 4 months later to West L.A now it's called "Cedar Sinai" I was raised 4 blocks west of there where my mom still lives and I live on Kingswell off Vermont exactly 3 blocks north of there this was an amazing video best one I have ever seen again THANK YOU!!
It wasn’t some perfect utopia there was some news stories of horror but very few and far between nothing like today nobody was shooting uo churches schools clubs movie theaters or grocery stores so no there wasn’t homeless people and crazy people everywhere no
Oh wow the skyline with the old savings and loan logo! The old V.W bugs and station wagon with the way back, the style of the RTD buses! Thanks for posting this it’s truly appreciated.
What an outstanding restoration. To think of all of the stories and lives of people who were from before, current to that date, born during, grew up young and all those who have long since passed whose stories have been lost. Los Angeles truly had the chance to be the shining city on a hill for all eternity. We need to find our way back.
Thx for posting these video's. Brings back so many memories when, coming from Europe, I was visiting relatives in L.A. I really wish I could go back to that era, which was so very special. It's almost like craving. And see my relatives again, who sadly passed away in the mean time.
Seeing how things are today in 2022, I sometimes have to take a look back to see how it was. Things seem so messed up today that I'm really missin several yesterdays.
I can imagine Jim Rockford driving his banged up old car along these streets and also detectives Starsky and Hutch chasing some punks in their Gran Torino. 😁
@@nativetexanful My son lives near Sunset and Hillhurst and the rent he pays for just a bedroom is outrageous!!! I don't know how people can afford living there now.
Papa Dinkleberg Considering I lived in LA for 12 years until recently, I think I’d know what I’m talking about. There are very nice pockets of LA, surrounded by a ton of shitty parts. Some areas of LA you would swear you are in Mexico. It didn’t used to be like that.. There’s so much pollution, traffic, crime. It sucks.
