Im a native angelino and i agree that the city design of LA is overrated. I think its a better place to live than to visit. You can play in the snow, visit the desert, and be at the beach on the same day. But too much of the county was built around suburbs. I love the quirky mid century and googie architecture that came out of LA but it wouldve been cool if the downtown was a lot bigger. Once the great depression hit they stopped building big buildings in downtown. After ww2 the new craze was suburbs. I dream of an alternative reality where the great depression never hit and they continued to build art deco and beaux art skyscrapers in downtown.

Yes. Not much to see/do inside LA. You want to visit the beaches and the mountains surrounding the city.
