From Harlingen, our first to California in 1957 and back to TX, to Ohio in1959 and back to TX, again back to California in 1960 and returned back TX in March of 63'. the following years were to Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska and somewhat settling in Ohio some years returning back TX. I would NOT trade all those years ... yes, I am proud tejano/chicano. All that stoop labor was just an experience in our lives, and I have made the best I could from that experience.

My Mom My Grandparents And Her Family Used To Work The Fields In The Valley And Up North In Ohio And Indiana Back In The 60s And 70s Y En La Kineña In Kingsville Tx Puro Raymondville Mission Y Rio Grande City Texas
my grandmother grew up in texas working in the fields, lived with a family of 10 in one bedroom with 2 beds, no power no nothing, as a 16 year old now ill forever be grateful for the work she did then with her family. i would have had nothing if it wasnt for her extremely hard work. que dios te bendiga a todo!
My father picked cotton in his younger days. He would tell me stories about when they would go to Clarksdale Mississippi around the 1940'sand pick there aside from Robstown and the RGV, Rio Grande Valley. He said that one year a young black boy came to their camp in Clarksdale and asked my grandfather if they could take him back with them. He kept doing that every night and 2 years after till it stopped one day when parents came looking for him. Like the song says and my dad as well, the morning pick was better due to the dew and make the (costales) tow sacks weight more!! My parents raised 10, 5 boys and 5 girls con la chancla!! I too being from McAllen born and raised in Rio Grande, picked watermelon, vegetables and fruits from the orchard in the summer days. You learn the value of hard work and appreciate the dollar more. This is who we are mi jente, LA RAZA!!!
When me and my family would go to Lubbock Abernathy New Deal Plainview Cotton Center and Idalou to clean cotton thanks to all the Farmers who gave us work and they were so kind to us and also Littlefield and Shallowater
I love things video, As a son of a Mexican father and a a son of American native gringa American, my sister and younger brother used to work for Van De WALLE farm in San Antonio and surrounding county during summers. Thanks for sharing this wonderful amazing video. This video shows how chicanos and illegals FEEDING the American Hater’s and the trumpies with healthy vegetables and fresh fruits.
(The only break from the monotonous days in the sun.) I did enjoy the traveling, seeing new things/places. Some of these things/places I had read/seen in books. I remember seeing Busch stadium in St. Louis through the hole in the lona. Honest honorable work for many of us but we should not let our "sharp ones" stay behind. We need to encourage and back them up to get higher education so that they can sit on tables where decisions are made. We don't have to prove to anybody that we are hard workers. Our history shows that from way back in the beginnings when the Aztecas built Chinampas to what is now the mexico city area. Arriba mi brown bothers and sisters. ElRoi
Those were beautiful times parents and children were United we had respect for them. Working in the fields made you a strong and responsible person. I miss those beautiful days ..those beautiful memories will never be forgotten. I miss my parents. May you rest in peace mom and dad. Love you forever. God bless
This new generation of children will never know what a hard life is was for those children of the 40,50,60,70, and probably 80..Era ..if you wanted something you would worked for what you had and would take good care of it knowing that the money to pay for such things came from your own sweat of hard work ,even as a child .
My family went in the 80 all 90s and early 2000 to Lubbock to clean cotton in West Texas we were so sunburnt but we could hack we weren’t little spoiled brats
Now La Raza De Mexico Working The Fields My Family Were The Last Chicanos To Work In The Fields In The Late 70s 80s Raza Came Crossing The Border To Work The Fields And The Chicanos Didnt Want That Lifestyle And Moved On To Work Better And Not Making Their Kids Suffer What They Did But I Will Always Admire My Grandparents My Uncles Aunts And My Mother Who Were Labor Workers Y Ahora La Raza Que Anda Jalando En Las Labores Mis Respetos Tambien
Awesome song and great video by Los Fantasmas del Valle ..............It reminds me when we (family) used to go to Bovina/Herfered,Tx area back in June - 1982 to work on the cotton fields or the sugarbeeds fields.............and every Friday after we got paid we would stop by the ALL-SUPS store , and got myself 2 borritos and a Pepsi..... (something I still do today) , when ever I have a chance.......Unfortunately my mother passed away in 2003 and my older brother also passed away on 2013 so things have been rough on my family .......but watching this type of videos makes it better on on the family and keep those memories alive.........

Now its my turn to return the favor and proud to do it.. while i still can and they are still around.

Memories 60th and 70th. My Father was a Trukero AKA El Gavilan. owner of Trucks and Semi Trucks. We would travel to many locations such as Arkansas, Michigan, Alabama, New Mexico, Indiana just to mention. We would leave just right after school was over and would returned on the month of January the following year. Working thoes fields was no joke. Monday through Saturday with one day off. The age of 5 years old i was picking cotton along side my two older brothers and Parents. Those were times when parents showed and taught thier children how to earn a living. My brothers and I are very proud of our parents. We were all born in the early 50th. Today is a new generation that has no ideal what it is to earn a dollar the way many of us that worked those fields or packing sheds. This song is dedicated to our ancestors who brought our parents the same way. Greetings from Santa Rosa, Texas .
Great memories. My mom and dad would tell me stories of how they worked and had pictures of them working during this generation. My parents, uncles aunts worked in the fields as well. My grandfather also had many trucks, semi’s and over hundred workers. They were from Edcouch-Elsa. Trevino and Sanchez.
My 5 brothers and I have also being owner operators of semi trucks. Some of my brothers know your family. I left the valley at a young age. Joined the Marines and retired in 1997. Started my trucking company in Arizona. 50th, 60th and 70th were the best experience in our family lives. We're still going strong. Greetings. Santa Rosa, Texas.

Estamos Bien agradesidos Al jefito. Que dios me Los bendiga a todos. Happy Trails!
Like this song, brings back memories from then when we use to work at the Van De Walle fields with my sister in San Antonio and south Texas. This song is great thanks for sharing this video. Hope one day our young folks could under stand that EDUCATION is good in life. That what we had to do in life to succeed in todays technology. Yes farm workers are good people, they work to get good food in our body.
Went to school when it was time to go up north we were ready my friends who stayed here in the valley didn't have to leave we did go to Michigan to work it was a long trip to work in the fields of dreams.
My Dad used to tell us stories of going from here in San Antonio to Michigan in the 40s and how often they ate field rats so they wouldn't starve. They slept as a family in the bed of a pickup truck. God bless them. 🙏

This video shall be forwarded to the racist klu klus klown Donald duck Trump. This shows how our ancestors work to feed the gringos and all around the nation, not let him put us down as what or who we are as latinos or Tejanos. If he eats vegie then he supports the latinos as well. Young farm workers still works for better life for them self and parents. Hope one day farm worker can be known as how people get food on there table, vegies- fruits, and so on.
