Los jabones de Joserra ( / losjabonesdejoserra ) is an artisan, Jose Ramon Blanco Martinez, based in San Esteban del Valle, Spain. The artisan is known for unique base ingredients and has recently perfected a post shave lotion. Los jabones de Joserra has been commissioned by several wet shaving groups on Facebook to create exclusive soaps. In order to purchase, you can contact the artisan on their Facebook business page or from ShavingStation (shavingstation.co.uk/).
Rodrigo De Jerez was a Spanish sailor who voyaged to America on the Santa Maria during the first Columbus voyage in 1492. Rodrigo De Jerez is credited as the first European to smoke tobacco and as such, this scent pays homage to that. Notes of: tobacco leaf, spices, tonka bean, tobacco flower, leather, vanilla, cocoa, nuts, black suede, amber and woods blend together to create the unmistakable fragrance of fresh rolled tobacco. The spices and vanilla add complexity to this accord. This is a masculine but not edgy tobacco presentation. Mrs. Ruds enjoys this scent casually, although does not find it fit for the finer occasions. Strength of scent is mid off the tub and remains this way for the entire lather and shave experience. Try That Soap (trythatsoap.com/) recommends Highland Springs Soap Co. Hava Vieja as a similar scent profile.
Los jabones de Joserra is a beef and lamb tallow soap base. The ingredients list features: Stearic acid, Beef tallow, Lamb tallow, Shea butter, Oils of: Flax seeds, Cannabis seeds, coconut, and castor, Glycerin, Fragrance, Cocoa powder. This soap is mid firm and it extremely thirsty, perhaps the thirstiest of soaps that I have ever used. Care must be taken in order to not overload your brush, else you will be making lather for much longer than you want to. The lather is very dense with a high gloss and will resemble sour cream when properly dialed in. Both primary and residual slickness are excellent and allow the blade to race across your skin unimpeded in any way. The soap’s post shave is very good. It provides ample nourishment and post shave protection, to the point where foregoing an aftershave product is feasible. This installment is improved over the last base by the artisan and as such receives a ShaveScore of 90. For similar performance in a soap base I recommend: Highland Springs Soap Co. and Oaken Lab.
