Thanks for the video! So hard to tell when to euthanize. We had a Rotty/Chow-Chow mix that passed on last week. Hew was diagnosed with lymphoma 5 months ago and given a prednisone treatment (yes, we knew the options). Four days before he died, he would get up to take a walk (he loved walking). Then, the next day, he did not want to take walk, nor did he wand to eat. We knew it was time, Called the vet for an euthanization appointment. The day he was to be euthanized, he passed, on his own, two hours before the appointment. We hope he didn't suffer much. RIP Duke. RIP Mac.
Bone cancer is so horrible and a major fear of every greyhound owner. I'm in a couple of greyhound groups on Facebook and it seems every day or 2 someone is sharing their heartbreaking diagnosis of osteosarcoma. 😥
Thank you so much for those videos! I was always a cat person.. until I fell in love with greyhounds. Those videos really help me see what my future may look like, it is so comforting, thank you for being so open and honest.
Dear Steph….I’m so so sorry about dear Link. He was such a beauty and had so much expression!! Please take care, and I am very sad for your neighbor also. Link was certainly loved and so lucky to have good owners and a special neighbor!! ❤❤❤from Jean
So sorry to hear about Link, Osteosarcoma in Greyhounds is very cruel and usually very aggressive, so as dog owners we have to do what's best for them. Never easy but the right. I've just lost my girl Patsy to Liver cancer at 8. She went down really quickly over weeks. All my other dogs have been old when they had to be put to sleep and it's so much harder when they're not old. I take comfort from we gave them their best life when we had them. X
I'm so sorry. From the video, it's obvious Link is in a lot of pain - the shaking, constant licking of his lips, just his whole demeanor is not comfortable at all. Poor boy. It sounds like your neighbours made absolutely the right decision. I'm just so, so sorry that this happened. Bone cancer is so aggressive in greyhounds, and five years old is so young... Sending a huge hug to you and your neighbours right now.
We are so sorry to hear of Link's passing, he was a truly wonderful boy and we had just watched your video of when you looked after him for your neighbour, so loving he was. We hope that they decide to adopt another of this wonderful and loving breed of dog.
My heartfelt sympathy. Notwithstanding the underlying sadness of your blog, how mighty refreshing to hear a story that's such a vast, vast contrast to the overwhelming daily tsunami swamp of videos on this forum from a certain sector of the cat community who, pathetically, feel that just because moggy sneezed that's reason enough to go global with every last detail of such trivia. (What possesses such people Christ only knows.) Lady, you blow a Force 9 gale of down‐to‐earth sanity throgh this site.
Just lost our Whippet to cancer at nearly 15yrs of age last month. She went south very quickly over a weekend, stopped eating and drinking then died the next day. Miss her terribly.
I'm so sorry. Losing one furbaby is hard enough but two in such a short time isn't fair. Big hugs. ❤ My son lost his Boxer of 13-years and I know as his O'Ma how tough it was. He was and will ever be the Best pup a person could have. 💔
Oh Steph, I'm so sorry. They are generally healthy dogs but they're prone to bone cancer and your guys have been really unlucky. Link was a great dog and you and your neighbours gave him a very happy life. Take time to grieve but please don't let this put you off giving another ex-racer a great life as a pet dog.
This does worry me about greyhounds. I just lost my senior dog just over a week ago. I want to get a greyhound from my local rescue, for retired greyhounds. I don't want my heart to be broken soon though and hardly get any time with them. I'm planning to go see them in early new year.
I lost my greyhound in December to ostecarcinoma. I noticed him limping and took him to our trusted vet. She said he had 2 to 3 months left. He was gone in 2 weeks. I miss him so much. I have 2 other greys. It's so hard and seems so unfair😢
