It’s not really the fact that definitively NBA teams are better than rest of the world teams. It’s the sense of pure entitlement that American sports as a whole takes that they are the world and all that matters. In soccer for example if you win the champions league (all the best teams in Europe) you are without a doubt the best team in the world, however they make it very clear and have never said “world champions” only “champions of Europe” even the best league in the world in the English premier league only say “champions of england” you are the champions of the U.S nothing more.
