your lime is very different to ours. We can did it out of the ground and spread it without a crusher. It's also %85 pure and yellow. I now use coarse lime due to the fact its cheaper and %30 of it is fine anyway. We always put on 1 ton to the acre, (you are lucky i'm not using French). Now I have increased that to two ton and acre. I avoid Sulphate of Ammonia as it is so acidic and any other acid phosphate. My problem today is my profits have almost evaporated, and i'm just trying to see a way to make a dollar let alone spend one. This recession looks world wide and could be along haul.
Wes I've been watching every video since the beginning and have much respect. I feel we would have been great friends if we had been neighbors as kids. I enjoy all your videos from shop, repairs, thoughts on new and old farming practices, family and travel's. I think my favorite and I bet many of your subscribers would like more good in cab shots for us to enjoy watching each tractor doing it's thing pulling various implements while you discuss what's on your mind, why your doing and what your plan of attack for the next day might be. We all love that iron digging across those fields and good commentary. Keep up the great work!
Hi Wes, I watched a guy topple an end dump with potash one time. He was jackknifed up to a fertilized barn belt with a 20 mile wind and floorboard the hoist all the way up and rolled all the potash to the rear. This was a 90 day old raven trailer got it up and it wobbled two or three times and it was in the street and that was all to be unloaded through the shoot
You like I have survived bad marriage and children going astray...I don't farm...but We share other things...unfortunately.. keep making videos... your 1 of the best...walk tall my friend..walk tall..
I feel like the Chandler spreader is one of the most important pieces of equipment that we run. We apply lime, chicken litter, composted manure mixes etc.
I need to get better at soil testing. One question i have and sorry if you touched on this before is would it be best to have someone come take the samples on 1 or 2.5 acre grids and have them just spread it where its needed or just pull the samples myself randomly throughout the field and just spread the amount i need access the hole field. I get there is a cost difference and maybe a savings of the grids. Was just curious what I should do.
Great video have you ever seen the pelletized lime. We see just planting food plots about 30 acres worth. They say it works fast but only last one year. It’s not cheap so I’m sure on your scale it would not be worth it.
Interresting video. Answered my question from the last video. If your feilds were alkiline then i would assume you would have to use different minerals to make the soil more acidic?
you would use a lot of ammonium sulfate as your nitrogen source that will reduce it. ive never had an alkaline problem so I do not really know the answer to that but I will research it.
Trimming when you apply lime will effect ph need enough time for lime to break down into soil throwing lime down before planting most likely not help takes about 3 months for lime to start leaching into soil.
@@onelonleyfarmer I should have said PH is the measurement of your Hydrogen Ion activity. I worked in a sugar mill for 36 years and measuring the PH was very important. Just as important as controlling it in your fields.
I’m old and I have come to the conclusion that many people about your age can’t get things unless you repeat them multiple times. So I’m glad it’s sinking in finall
