No idea how true this is, but it seemed like the first character was "dreaming" about what the floor would be like, hense why time didn't start yet. I think you are basicly given the time before it ends (bottom bar) to explore the floor and see what will be available

Btw Joseph’s little bar is basically you get a quick run of the first floor through as much as you can on a time limit and anything you pick up when it restarts you won’t get it after it resets

fun fact this mod is somewhat broken in repentance, there are a few enemies that cant be killed (literally invincible). also the black floaty thing that hutts touched kills you instantly one hit
