Also, for a theory on why they might've passed on it, the pilot was pitched in 2007 and it prominently featured spies. In 2007, there were a number of spy-based animated projects across the various networks that were either still on-going (like Disney's The Replacements or, to an extent, CN's KND), just wrapped up (like Nick's The X's), or still in syndication (like CN itself still playing episodes of Totally Spies). I doubt they were looking for a new spy show: especially with how fickle trends in animation can be and how, in like a year or two, CN was shifting towards live-action content with CN Real.
Reediting pilots into an actual episode was a weird yet really common thing in Nick back then once you notice it (Rocko). Ahh Real Monsters pilot is most likely an alternate version of an aired episode as you kinda said. They kept Rocko's separate from the edited episode so they probably kept that.
I know that the people behind OK KO wanted to do that with the show's pilot but the animation style was too different leading to the episode "Let's Watch the Pilot".
Looking at the concept art, I'd guess Project Gilroy was an X-Files type of show, but about a kid in the 1950s. Maybe it was just a show ahead of it's time, I bet if she pitched it again a few years later it would've gotten picked up.
Shannon Tindle is actually male and he ended becoming the writer of Kubo and the Two Strings. He has a Twitter and Instagram account. I believe he would be willing to talk about it with those who might be curious.
It makes me kinda sad that they spent almost 4 years making it and it didn't even get to appear in promotions or anything at all. Well I guess that's what the industry is like.
I'm glad more people got into Clone High. The concept art looks close to the final version. The creators talk with the fans and the show is in the spotlight again so there's a chance it could be released.
I went to middle school in Gilroy, California and I hit this video immediately when I saw the Project Gilroy thumbnail. He looks like a head of Garlic. Gilroy was known for garlic farms, the Annual Gilroy Garlic Festival, and Gilroy Gardens theme park in which some of the rides (knock off teapots) were themed off of garlic, with more of the park being themed off of produce in general. No idea about what the plot would involve but seeing the screenshot of them on an old farm definitely convinced me it has something to do it Garlic and Gilroy, California.
9:20 no way that's me lol Anyway, thanks for bringing up the Invader Zim thing. Maybe this will raise more recognition of it's existence to get it found finally. 👍 I already see a lot of people in this comment section excited about it, not knowing it existed. My goal is to find it by the end of this year!
Luigi's Mansion SpaceWorld 2000 is technically limited media. They showed the full thing for 2 days only and a few years on GamerWeb and then never again.
I am SO glad to see someone finally bring up that Camp Lazlo pilot. I remember trying to email Joe Murray in probably like 2014 or 2015 and never getting a reply so it was cool to see someone else get his word on it even if he didn't have it.
The Project Gilroy pilot being rejected after 3 and a half years in the making sounds incredibly rough, the shows seems interesting from the screenshots and concept art too, but after all they probably rejected it for a reason.
I'm almost certain that the 3D Zim scene was aired on television at least once or uploaded to a defunct video platform because I've seen it. Always thought it was some sort of bizarre fever dream but it was definitely that exact scene
@@andykishore I still have the DVDs so I’ll check just to be sure, but I feel like if it was as simple as it being in the DVD bonus features (or even being a DVD easter egg) it would’ve been found by now, yknow? xD
Reached out to Shannon Tindle about Project gilroy and he said that Cartoon Network still technically owns the rights so he can’t just release it. He was super nice and he mentioned that it wasn’t a pilot for the show it was more of a demo to show what they can do with the show but he said it just never got picked up. He seemed super surprised that people even wanna see it. I have a bunch more concept art not shown on here.
Nothing impresses me more about lost media than when hints or the full lost piece is found through ppl working on it or someone consuming it back in the days of pre-internet just saving evidence on a whim
We Bare bears creator Daniel Chong mentioned on his Twitter that he made a pitch to Nickelodeon called Pudding toast, it went through development hell and didn't get picked up.
Just checked the Lost Media Wiki page for this, literally a day ago as of me sending this comment it seems someone found one of the pilots in full! Check the comments of that article if you wanna see it, the link includes a CG test/CG designs of the characters and some background shots too.
For the next video of Cartoon Network's lost media talk about their "Live-action pilots", also referenced on Wikipedia: KROG, Attentions Students, etc.
Video game lost media is my favorite kind of mystery, but this sounds interesting too! I wonder why they only 3D modeled a small scene in that entire episode of Invader Zim. Maybe they wanted the scene to feel more exciting or impactful, before ultimately scrapping the 3D version.
Another lost media case regarding "clone high" is about its Italian dub There is proof about this dub existence, we have the names of some italian dubbers and we know the company who took care of the dub (VIDEODELTA) We also have some articles regarding the announcement of the dub, but we don't even know if it ever went on air to begin with. I don't have many more informations, since I never dug too much into it, but I'm sure there's more to be discovered.
I love videos like these where you talk about Lost Media. Idk why but I find Lost Media interesting! Keep making videos like these. Enjoying the content lately. Keep up the great work! Much love brotha ❤️
Even with how lighthearted these missing pilots are, they still give the same eerie feeling as any mysterious lost media like Ordan's Forest or something.
As someone who is waaaaay too into Invader Zim, it really isn't as easy finding the lost media from the series as one might think. I've done research and check on the search daily, but the weird thing is that it seems Nick just wants to bury their lost media, as they did with Crybaby Lane.
Based on the art you shown, I would guess Project Gilroy is about a country boy who befriends an alien and has to keep the alien a secret from government agents.
My holy grail of a lost pilot and lost media in general will always be the Down The Mine Pilot from Thomas The Tank Engine. Thomas was one of my top childhood shows and I still love the model series today and only that one. So up to about Season 11 I think and I hope it gets discovered sooner or later in my lifetime. 🦔👍
The Ben 10 unaired pilot is another good one. It wasn't until around last October that the pilot was even confirmed to exist (or at the very least one scene was made).
Project Gilroy sorta reminds me of Samurai Jack in terms of the clean cut line-less art style. Such a shame it was probably rejected but I bet if the person would've pitched it to maybe Netflix or Cartoon net work again now MAYBE it could've had a chance.
While the most logically explanation is that I am misremembering due to the generic and simple designs, I feel like I have actually seen the main character and one eyed thing before. I do also seem to vaguely remember those characters in a rural area, but that is almost certainly a false memory. Regardless, that could mean that the assets, or even a reworked version of the Project Gilroy Project pilot is out there, maybe in the hands of another company.
To specify what the probable false memory is, I remember a rural setting, and completely wrapped up story, good animation, aliens, and working together at the end when bad things are happening. I don't actually remember how the one eyed character plays into the story, and given my generic memory, it could just be the plot of some other show, but I figure that as long as people don't sink to much effort into this "lead", then it won't hurt to contribute what I can. Edit: I also should mention that I think I remember seeing it somewhere around 2011 to 2012, it was definitely a movie that I am remembering, and it was aired live.
I’ve never met anyone who isn’t emo who likes Invader Zim. It seems it’s like an emo thing. I can’t tell you how many emo girls and guys I went to high school with who had Gir hoodies and Gir keychains and Gir everything really lol.
I don't think anyone has talked about this but.. there is an unaired Tak and the Power of Juju episode. There have been some test shots for this pilot (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ARWy05c5EJY.html) but the episode itself is nowhere to be found (At least to my knowledge) The only thing i could find is some still images of the episode with earlier versions of the Pupununu people as well as a scrapped Juju named "The Colonel" that resembles a moon. If someone can find out more information about this unaired pilot that would be awesome!
for whatever reason I feel like I remember that episode of ahh real monsters on TV when I was a kid. I recall it being about how they all met each other in class and learn how to use their special powers/ abilities. Maybe parts are recycled for later episodes. I definitely remember all three in a toilet. I haven't watched that show since I was a kid lol
the screenshots for project gilroy are giving me such strong 1950s alien invasion movie vibes... god, I'd love to see it and if I'm right about the premise I'm so sad it never happened.
The Tweenies has two pilots one unconfirmed pilot from 1992 and an unaired pilot from 1997 very little is known about these two pilots other than a IMDb page supposedly being from the 1997 pilot the rest is unknown
I see A!RM in the thumbnail and i click quickly xD , yeah i still want to watch the Aaah!! Real Monsters pilot, i hope it can be found someday :) ,its like my wish to play a beta rom of Super Mario World , gigaleak found a lot of content of SMW beta but still not a playable rom like Super Mario Kart and Yoshi's Island .
The picture with Adam Lyon sitting in a plain of grass about to mauled was an actual episode scene…he’s in class and a lion or panther is about to attack him and he screams and the panther/lion complains to mr hornbill the rino teacher about not being able to stalk well due to adams screams of fear….idk where that vivid memory came from….
all these lost media videos are really making me want to clip at least part of whatever shows i watch and upload them + do my best to be contactable Just In Case Something I Posted Becomes Lost Media And Im The Required Lead
gilory *the town in CA* is known for Garlic btw. they have a garlic festival. Garlic, like on the poster you show. I bet it was about Killer alien garlic or something
I'm not sure but i think i saw the AAAAHHH real monsters pilot in german 1 year ago on nick night, but i'm pretty sure i'm just remembering something else.
I know this video is old but thank you for uploading it. Invader Zim is a loved member of my family and we didn’t know about the pilot. It was nice to watch together.
Bro I have a lost pilot that I have it's called the twisted tales of Felix the cat pilot and when I try searching it there were no results so I'm like the only one to search it up and I think is now lost media.
we will probably never get the clone high pilot from mtv or anyone affiliated with it simply cause how controversial Gondi is being portrayed in the show
Man I remember the beavers episode from my childhood and I'm from south america. I had no idea it was considered lost media. Lately when watching your videos, I saw at least 3 things that I remember but I cant prove it in any way. I remember the beavers one because it was so dumb how the "logic" worked for the handcuffs. I didnt know it was a pilot and I only remember seeing it once. These things "just make sense" in my head, as I can remember them, and never heard they were lost media until I found your channel. I dont think Ive been influenced by videos in any way to think I've seen them before when I actually didn't, but again, I dont remember anything speciifc either. I love this topic, lost media is awesome.
Hey i didnt knew AoSTH had a lost pilot episode, pretty much thought that the series just went along without much stuff outside some obvious changes on some episodes (AKA the chrismas episode) Now, speaking of AoSTH, i kinda have this vage but pretty clear memory of an episode of AoSTH where is about a sonic impostor, no its not Pseudo Sonic it was another hedgehog that was as fast as Sonic but was "evil" and Robotnik later on makes him dress like sonic so he ruins his name, sonic finds out about the impostor and challenges him to a race, and eventually from all the running the blue paint he had to look like sonic wears off and then both Robotnik and this hedgehog are thrown into jail. This is the fun part of that vage memory, the hedgehog was green and has blue eyes and some scars on his belly, yeah if that sounds like Scrouge its because its exactly like him. Now i dont know if it was me mixing up something i saw in a Archie comic and the show, or some friend telling me about this "evil green sonic" and i kinda mashed up that with Pseudo Sonic, but the thing is that i kinda vividly remember that i woke up at 8 PM in the morning to try to watch the show and all, so might be real, might be whatever i imagined as a kid, but i do remember that being a thing at least, dunno if it was an early attempt at introducing Evil Sonic/Scrouge into AoSTH and its one of those airing testing stuff that occurs on specific parts of the world (being here latino america it could be the case) but i kinda wanted to toss this very vage and specific memory i have from watching AoSTH since i was a kid.
It could be the animatic from My Gym Partner's a Monkey could have acted as a pitch to Cartoon Network before having a pilot/series commissioned. Considering it went to top the Friday blocked ratings, I would imagine it encountered little resistance in getting green lit.
