3 Days in Colorado's beautiful Lost Creek Wilderness. The LCW is about a 2 hours drive from Denver but offers scenery straight out of Southwest Utah. It is definitely worth a trip.

I enjoy how natural the sound of this video is... subtle and well placed, nothing overdone. Sometimes tracks added subtract. Very nice looking country, beautiful shots. Thanks.

Very satisfying close-up focused ground-level shots, especially at camp (cook pot, shoes, etc.) Gorgeous slow-motion sequence in the middle with the "Aspen Grove Interlude." Just a really cool video altogether. Except... I was really hoping for a legendary MeHap backpack flip with follow-up strut onto the trail. Oh, well...maybe next time!
@BackcountryBanter

Hahaha. I don't know if it's his old age or a fading of his hiking skills, but I haven't seen a MeHap pack flip since the CDT. I'm going to try to capture one in the next video :)

I went with my scout troop last summer. We didn't complete this loop because of some people having health issues. But half of us did complete maroon bells a week later. And that damn gravel road sucked in a bus

Right in my own back yard, man. I love spending my time there. Glad to see you out there too. Try coming in from Ute Creek off of Terryall Rd next time. Starts with a climb and drops you in west of Hankins with several options for great loops. The payoff is well worth it. Way fewer people/scout troops in the warmer months also. Great vid! Cheers.

Realizing now that I'm logged in on an old profile for our dog. Anyway. AWESOME video... Planning to do the Lizard Rock / Lake Park loop with an excursion on the middle day up 607 to McCurdy then back to where it meets the loop to camp again a second night. Is that some of what this is? How were: water crossings and water access? (Looked like lots of creek access...)

Im jealous of your lime green Wildcats. mine finally wore out and had to be replaced with the new orange color which I don't like as much. Great shoes though I will be seriously bummed if La Sportiva ever discontinues them.

Me too! They're hard to beat. I saw some green ones in an REI a few months ago, but I do think they are switching over orange.

Another great video Joe! Always exciting to see what you're up to. Exped or Neoair? (Now that you've tried both)
@BackcountryBanter
@BackcountryBanter 6 лет назад
I'm a huge neoair fan and still think it's a better mat, but this exped has really impressed me. It's a medium-wide pad and the extra width makes for really great sleep (especially as a side sleeper.) My big question is how long will it last. The neoair blew me away with its durability and I haven't heard the greatest things about Exped. Time will tell! I'd like to see a short-wide neoair. Now that'd be perfect.

Outstanding video! Thank you for sharing . I like the look of your diy shaped tarp and was wondering what your thoughts are about those clip on front doors for a add on, and when your on a thru hike how often have you had to put your tarp in storm mode. ( I'm planning on making a similar tarp to the one you made )
@BackcountryBanter
@BackcountryBanter 6 лет назад
Thanks! I've never tried the clip on doors, though I've never really wanted for them either. I do believe they'd be nice to ease the splashing but I also wonder how they'd hold up in a stiff wind which is where you'd need them the most. There were a few days on the CDT in which I pitched in storm mode, mostly when it was really windy. I'm not sure I'd want clip in storm flaps in these cases, though sewn in ones may have been nice. One thing I often do when there is splashing is put my pack cover on my pack and stick it in the door of the tarp to fend off the splashes.
@davidcleveland4575
@davidcleveland4575 6 лет назад
Backcountry Banter , thank you for the great advice! I like the double duty of the pack cover and I see what you are saying about a stiff wind wrecking havoc on a clip on door, thanks again for all you do. God bless

How is the water over there these days? I heard you had a really low snow year. I'm planning on doing a warm-up hike in the Lost Creek or somewhere else lower in elevation to acclimate about 2 weeks from now--maybe 40-50 miles over 2-3 days, then hitting the CT at Twin Lakes (Collegiate West SOBO) to Durango, assuming the fires abate and the San Juan NF reopens.
@BackcountryBanter
@BackcountryBanter 6 лет назад
Awesome! sounds like a fun trip. The water was flowing well when I was there, not sure about current conditions. It has been a low snow year and to top it off our spring showers are nearly non-existent. I think you'll be fine a few weeks from now but I wonder how it'll be later in the summer season.
@BackpackingVideos
@BackpackingVideos 6 лет назад
Yeah, I'm hoping the summer monsoons kick in by early July. Last year, we had a ton of rain while I was hiking the CT. Normally, I don't pray for rain above treeline in CO because thunderstorms can be scary, but this year I'm more worried about lack of water on trail.

Would you recommend this trail for a intermediate ? I want to go on a backpacking trip to the Rockies this year coming from Kansas. Im used to flat to hilly terrain would this be good for a first mountain hiking/backpacking trip. Or what would be your recommendation for a trail to spend a night or two on in the 30 mile range
@BackcountryBanter
@BackcountryBanter 6 лет назад
Definitely! Though there is elevation gain and loss it is nothing compared to most of Colorado. Plus, because the LCW is on the very tip of the Front Range of CO it have much more mild weather patterns and less snow than the deep Rockies.

How was the road up to the Goose Creek Trail head? Last time I was up there, it was in such bad condition only a high rise vehicle could make it up there.
@BackcountryBanter
@BackcountryBanter 6 лет назад
I thought it was in really good condition. There was some washboarding, but no big ruts or rough spots. There were tiny cars making it up to the trailhead. My guess it that it's in such great condition because we've had so little rain :-(
@NoTrail
@NoTrail 6 лет назад
Hey BanterBoy....did you buy a bunch of those LaSportiva Wildcats a while back? Seems they no longer make that older model. Like the rock formations in this area.
@BackcountryBanter
@BackcountryBanter 6 лет назад
Hahaha, I actually did... but this is my last pair :-( But fret not! These shoes are still made. I saw them at REI not too long ago. They have changed the color to orange now, but I've still seen the green ones in stores too.
@NoTrail
@NoTrail 6 лет назад
I have two pair and saw some orange and blue ones on Amazon...green best tho. I see you've abandoned the iPhone for a real camera...what kind? Gives your videos a whole new dimension...not that they needed to be better.
@BackcountryBanter
@BackcountryBanter 6 лет назад
Watch out with the blue ones, all the blue ones I've seen are the waterproof version. Not nearly as breathable or comfortable. I'm using a Sony a6300 now. It's a big and heavy mirrorless camera, but it's 4k footage and the ability to use real lenses is hard to beat.

How did you like the 38?
@BackcountryBanter
@BackcountryBanter 6 лет назад
This was my first trip with it but I am already loving it. I wasn't sure that 38L would be enough for me, but it was more than enough. I would 100% thruhike with this pack. It carries a load extremely well and is just all around comfortable. Plus, they fixed my biggest gripe about the Crown 60... and added huge hip-belt pockets. A+++

Love the video, but don't understand the need of adding music to it. The natural sound of you guys in the forest is sweet music in and of itself. Also, you forgot your MAGA hat to go with the flag.
