Lost in Irvingland: Visit to a Hostile Planet - Lost in Space Season 3 Episode 2 

This episode was a clever episode the whole idea then making it back to Earth finally but 50 years behind the writers deserve a lot of credit for this and I love the end shot of the Jupiter 2 leaving Earth it was very nicely shot in their sky and then coming above the planet Earth leaving well done special effects

This episode could’ve been the start of a more serious and exciting 4th season, good opportunity to leave Smith behind and continue on!

Right planet, but unfortunately wrong year

Stacy could still have been living when the Jupiter 2 launched, although she would be around 60.

What I don't get is Smith had 2 aims for the entire run of this show 1. Getting back to earth and 2. Being rich and powerful. By staying back on earth in 1947, having been born around that time, he would have known all events that would take place for the next 50 years, giving him an enormous advantage to gain power and wealth. I guess his primal cowardness took over and that's why he scampered back to the ship.

This my favorite episode of season 3, (along with Anti-Matter Man, and Hunters Moon). I always felt this episode should have been the last episode of the series! The irony that they finally returned to earth, but in the wrong time. They concluded they didn’t belong and had to leave. The ending scene of the ship leaving earth again, with the music and everything, STILL gives me goose bumps and WOULD have been the PERFECT ending!!! The only problem was this episode aired BEFORE they found out the show was cancelled, and would have no season 4!! They were finishing up on the last episode, (the truly horrible Junkyard in Space), when they got the news. Typical; companies always fire people on Fridays: you can’t expect people to come in and finish a job AFTER being told they’re all canned!! MAJOR PLOT HOLE, (although LIS NEVER worried about those details). If the Jupiter and occupants went back in time, it was never established that they were able to recreate and reverse this process to return to their original timeline! Many episodes would be impossible unless they DID return to their original timeline! Like The Haunted Light House would not yet exist. The Time Merchant episode could not exist because the “past” had not yet happened! Time travel is probably the hardest, most complicated plots make everything come together, and LIS writers were in WAY over their heads!!

This would have been the most perfect episode to leave Dr. Smith behind and let him be someone else's problem.

Will Robinson's little girlfriend would see him again. Fast forward to 1997 when she is in her early 60's and she is watching television coverage of the liftoff of the Jupiter 2. She watches the coverage of the first family in space about to board the ship. When the camera pans to Will, she yells out "that's the space boy I met in 1947!" Then her children and grandchildren roll their eyes and think to themselves that grandma is off her meds again.

They used the countdown in order to count all the hairstyles judy and penny had...during the 3 seasons penny changed her hair 9 times....and judy changed her hair 9 times also. Marta Kristen says she always remember the hairstyles of Lost in Space.

You forgot to mentioned that John Robinson said to the dummies with the cannon that "It wasnt until the year "1970 "When Man first landed on the moon .We all knew that this actually happen in 1969

Going the speed of light has been proven to be unnecessary to go back in time. A mere 88MPH will do the trick.

There are color stills from the first season that show the original outfits. Plus even in black and white, if you look close you can see the design differences. Then about half way through season 1, they changed to the outfits that they would wear through season 2. They tried to give Jonathan Harris a white or yellow light colored top. He didn't like it, claimed it didn't flatter him and he thought as the villain he should wear black. So he only wore the light color for a couple of B&W episodes before they returned him to black. The cast wore these all up until season 3, where these designs are all new.

i can understand that, at first, they don't realize they went back in time, but they do know they can't contact alpha control, so why in the name of god did they land in michigan instead of texas or florida where certainly alpha control would most likely be????? in their character biographies, the 5 robinsons are all born, raised & educated in new mexico and/or colorado, depending on the characters personal timetable , major west is suppose to be from from massachuttes - they could have landed in their own backyard - yet they land in michigan - i don't get it and it's bothered me for 50 year LOL :) oh well - it's still great :)

That was the most lines Judy had to memorize in a year

The only problem I actually had with this episode was........with meteor storms and super Nova's.... how could they think an old civil war cannon could destroy the ship 🤣

It's been close to 40 years since I've seen these! It is funny that they don't know what an old phone is. Even in 2021, I recognized it. Maybe the kids wouldn't, but the adults?

Wild colors were the order of the day in part b/c they were competing with Batman for visual interest, and in part b/c the first-gen color TVs of that day couldn't be counted on to render colors with great accuracy. Often they came out muted or too-similar looking, so absent an advance in technology the answer was to amp-up the input colors to result in the desired result on those sets.

As usual, Smith immediately goes native to save his own hide, but the forgiving Robinsons always take him back. A romantic opportunity for Will and Stacy was sadly 50 years too late.

Starting 2:16 .... One of my other all-time favorite TV shows from sixties (among many) is the Japanese import, Ultraman (where everyone spoke with Japanese accent except the hero, Hayata, who had an American accent 🤣) and this twirling Jupiter reminds me of the twirling paint opening from Ultraman that I love so much too....... I'm really lost in these and will be for a while. Your analysis of this show is great!

"Psycho Killer" by the Talking Heads would have been good background music for the countdown scene in this episode. 6:26. At least the adults will get more scenes where they can do some serious acting in season 3. 7:40. Most of the scientific knowledge that the script writers had probably came from comic books, too. 8:22. A rehash of the 1493 gaffe that Smith made in one of the Verda episodes in season 2. 9:37. Where's Mr. Haney? Have the Clampetts moved to Beverly Hills yet? Grandpappy Amos and the girls and the boys and the family known as The Real McCoys. Which one of those three comments is the worst? 9:54. Cragmire is wearing a WW I uniform. 10:08. The guy behind Cragmire looks a lot like Nicholas Cage. I always though Nicholas Cage was a time traveller. 14:14. In the months leading up to October 16, 1997, this girl, now a middle aged adult, was institutionalized after endlessly insisting that the Jupiter II crew looked just like a bunch of people that she met back in 1947. 15:47. Remember the apples in Wish Upon A Star in season 1? 15:57. And this guy would later work for the California Highway Patrol with Ponch and Jon. And J5 (Lou Wagner)! 18:46. Target Jupiter!? What does that mean? 19:50. West End Cabinet Company. Get some new cabinets for the Jupiter II galley. 21:15. Look at the Robot! Apparently that long "S" word can time travel, too! Now they know about Schmeerskahoven back in 1947. 23:36. I suppose Smith left his J2 clothing back at "Len's Garage"?

So how did they get back to the correct timeline? Maybe this is why they never got back to Earth, they were stuck in 1947. Now that they know where they are, they could have headed off to Alpha Centuri, they could get there 50 years earlier, doesn't really matter. They could surprise every body on Earth when they find out that the Robinsons are already there, even before they have taken off in 1997.

Angela Cartwright kept getting taller during the show, kept outgrowing the costumes she wore. To solve the problem, they had her wear that dress-like jumper in Season 3. One of the most hilarious lines was when Judy explained to the local who lassoed her how she got to Earth: we flew out of our time zone. You do that when you fly from Los Angeles to Denver!

I doubt Dr Smith could alter the time line

I always thought that their lack of knowledge about something that was only 50+ years previous was totally unrealistic even when I was a little kid and saw this in the 70s. John was born 10 years after this episode took place (1957) there’s no way that the adults don’t know what a phone is and had never seen a car except in a museum.

Jess is set up right here would have been a perfect way to end the show and as well as season 3 because unlike the space 1999 people., the Gilligan's Island castaways, or the Land of the Giants people they could have sent the Robinson's home

This was one of my favorite episodes. But I will say, YES, the studio must have gotten a great deal on purple fabrics that summer!

I think the gesture from Guy Williams was natural. I think the direction was your fed up with Smith but his gestures and attitude was natural it just you can tell when somebody's not thinking you know it's like second nature you know the way they move and something practice. At least I can tell. I think. Therefore I am. I think. my personal favorite all-time Lost in space was the time merchant though, I mean it had everything it had John being fed up John being heroic Smith even being heroic the robot being heroic will being heroic and then a weird way even the time merchant cuz he didn't make some kamikaze run at the whole thing he just ran away at the end and anyway the scene at the end works Smith can quite make it onto the Jupiter too he thinks before blast off just that scene right there, the dialogue the music the timing, I thought it was an excellent lead done minute and a half a film. I would have given that scene a honorary Emmy for something editing and some kind of design and some supporting role as a whatever. Anyway, this is probably my second favorite episode though, and I'll tell you if I was at pumpkin I could have thought of a lot of other things to talk to Judy about and I would have definitely taken the rope off of her. Neck. Anyway I always thought Judy would make a great Bond girl she should have been in live and let die and forgot all of those ridiculous wardrobes they were made poor Jane Seymour wear. Okay what am I talking about? Where am i, okay I got it all right I got it figured out I know where I am now. Anyway nice job here and the answer that was the long answer and the short answer about the pose of Guy Williams natural practice. I say it was practiced naturally. Here is the name of my new show after I've changed the name of it from found in the ground, it is, it is, is is is is " lieutenant wolfman of transalvaynya joins the wax museum staff as a retired military expert on natural and social history. And then, signs up for the coast guard reserve and also gets a part-time job delivering pizza in his old four-wheel drive vehicle to the people who call in orders for the pizza that need delivery". Now granted it's rather long title, I think the descriptive Justice it gives each and every plot line if you can read between the lines, if so incredible that I don't even remember what I'm talking about and what's more I don't think anybody does not either no remembering and as much as we are chipping different hues against the fall. In the fall. OR why then?

My favorite season as a kid was probably season 2 (even though I kind of liked the black & white 1st season the best overall). However my favorite episode as a kid was always "Cave of the Wizards". The most interesting thing about this episode was that Irwin Allen had to predict in advance what year the moon landing was going to be so he predicted 1970 (about six months too late). Anyway pretty close considering we did better than he thought we would. This one contained Robert Pine from "Chips" and also Claire Wilcox from a couple different episodes of "The Partridge Family" episodes and "The Brady Bunch".

At 23:32 that Chickataw falls line so reminds of of Frank Burns when he said "Leavenworth????? My God that's in Kansas!!!!!!" I was the youngest of 3 brothers and me and the middle called the oldest a combination of Frank Burns, Felix from Odd Couple and Dr Smith 🤣
