I write books, so I got to hang for a little while with Bill during Comicon 2012 and he's everything you would hope. Very smart, very kind, respectful, generous. He didn't act famous. He just was terrific. And though he's two or three years older than I am, he's in great shape. I hope he's with us for a long, long time to come.
Billy is 4 years younger than me and this is the first time I've seen him as a man and he seems so rounded and grounded as a person. This interview must be quite old because he's 63 now and I'm 67 (going on 25 mentally) When I was a boy I used to watch Lost in Space and right now, in the UK we are getting a rerun (for the first time in years) and its wonderful to watch and its hooked me again and taken me back to that time, which is why I found this interview... to see how he turned out. I so wanted to be Will Robinson. I think there was a bit of hero worship there. Billy was great in it and had this little 'pug' nose (which he lost in puberty of course) and freckles which I notice now but didn't then. I was so in awe of his luck at being an actor. I did become an actor too but wasn't that good even though I went to a good drama school in London. I'm okay these days but the time has past. Bill I guess was a natural. I don't know how he managed it but he came through Hollywood apparently untouched by its insanity which we learned could destroy. He obviously was lucky and too smart to fall into the traps as I'm sure I would have. Its great to hear how talented he really is as both actor and musician. He really was at the front of the queue when they were handing out the skills, and even here he's sparky and erudite and focussed. Some guys have it all. He turned out pretty good!
I'm loving the re-runs on UKTV too, and I'm 55. Great fun series, and Jonathan Harris is absolutely brilliant as Dr Smith. TV takes itself far too seriously these days.
Irwin Allen was a fool to turn down the TV Movie lost in Space. Especially considering that around tht same time, Rescue from Gilligan's Island got a 43 SHARE! One of the highest rated shows of the entire decade.
Funny, he still pronounces it "Robutt" all these years later... I thought it was just because he was a kid that he constantly mispronounced "Robot" as "Robutt."
Good Souls and ASSouls not everyone likes everyone, it's human nature, and to be expected. there's a couple people I have worked with for over 30 years, and I would do cartwheels if they were to quit or retire. I am sure the feelings are mutual lol.
I met Bob May (Guy in robot) at a Sci-Fi show my son was involved with around 2004. Let me say that Bob May came across to me as a blow gut used car salesman who made a career of attending the Sci-Fi shows as I don't think he had any expertise doing anything else. Mark Goddard was indeed funny as I met him too. He became a Special Ed teacher as is my wife.
One of the smartest guys I watched as a kid. I just get the vibe that his intellect is wasted in his chosen field. All conjecture on my part. Just a gut feeling, mind you. But there’s a lot going on behind those eyes! 🤔
