Harness horses don't start from a stationary gate like ridden racehorses do. Instead the gate is attached to the car. They are all brought up to speed behind the car and then at the part of the track where the race starts the gates fold forward and the car gets out of the way.
@Desireeholloway3353 basically it helps make sure that everyone gets a fair start in harnessracing, makes everyone speed up to the same speed then the car speeds off so the race can commense
