In this video I will share my thoughts and experience of part of my summer travels through Europe.
One of the countries that I visited was Switzerland. I had wanted for a long time to see Swiss Culture and I finally had the chance to do so. In the video you will see my impressions on Switzerlands public transportation and I will let you know what I think of it. Did it meet my American skewed expectations, or did it fall short? Since I did not travel too far into the country, I did not get to experience it's tourism as much as I could have otherwise, but I still had a chance to take in this very beautiful (and expensive) part of the European lifestyle. There will be more videos on Switzerland and all of my other destinations, to follow. Stay locked into the channel to not miss. Enjoy the video.

9:10 that’s a double unit (1 unit is 150m, so 300m double decker), but they’re not actually as long as it gets. The Platforms in Zürich are actually a bit over 400m long for the long IC/IR trains coming in at up to 400m double deckers

@ChristopherLRussell Exact. Zurich people sound aggressive because of their peculiar German dialect, but they are not. They are kind and open. II spent 5 years of my life in that city. Great memories.

Hm, nothing very special about the trains in Switzerland. Maybe a _little_ bit fancier than the ones in germany. The new german double decker's are alike. The narrow streets are just like here in Hanover - i guess you didn't wander around a lot in my town.

Hi Peter, I often take the Swiss train “Seehas” here in the south, they have several lines here. There's no comparison, so punctual, clean, flexible, no defects, staff absences,... Great
@ChristopherLRussell
@ChristopherLRussell Год назад
@arnodobler1096 Yeah what’s up with that? I saw not one train controller (attendant? Ticket checker?) on any Swiss train I went on. How do they keep control? I had to ask the other Klasse1 riders of if I could sit in Klasse1 (as briefly noted in the vid). They were basically like “no one really cares”.

+peter.... I don't agree. There's a HUGE difference between trains in Switzerland and those in Germany: The trains in Switzerland actually run and those in Germany stand in train stations without moving. Meaning: In Switzerland you can use a train to travel from A to B. In Germany you use the train to enjoy riding much longer than foreseen. 😛

SBB/CFF/FFS has a integrated timetabling with local buses and trams and it is on a clock basis It is a very impressive system and it works. I was intrigued you didn't go out of the front of the only Hauptbahnhof in Switzerland. though as I remember it is open on all sides. At least she didn't greet you in Schwiizerdütsch (Schweizerdeutsch) which if you go on the Berner Oberland-Bahn they make announcements in the local dialect and like 3sat - you might need subtitles LOL Sorry but the way you said Bit-te reminded me so much of the way CLeavon Little said it in Blazing Saddles in the Schnitzengruben scene LOL

Yes, yes, the Swiss. You realize that you were in rebel territory, don't you? These "confederates" who simply broke away from the German king in 1291 in order to establish a democracy . My aunt is also Swiss, so she is also a rebel 😄

not from a German king, from the Habsburg dynasty.
@westfale520
@westfale520 27 дней назад
@@GerryMeyer The Habsburg territories belonged to the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, including Switzerland. The year 1291 is considered to be the year of Switzerland's foundation. During this time, the Wittelsbachs and the Habsburgs claimed the crown of the German king and emperor. In this respect, Switzerland's wars of independence were an uprising against the empire and the king. which lasted 200 years. In 1499, Switzerland was finally detached from the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation
@Slithermotion
@Slithermotion 23 дня назад
@@westfale520 ehh confederation was/is used because the original german word „eidgenossenschaft“ is almost impossible to translate in a meaningful way. But the first Federal letter was written in latin and the people back then didn‘t call themself confederates or eidgenossen but conspirators. Back the holy roman empire didn‘t have the by name „of german nation“ since it also included french, Dutch, czech and italian language regions. Furthermore the „swiss“ were already a reichsfreie stadt. Only subordinated by the emporer itself(which was luxemburg origin at the time) The habsburg had land in the Aargau region and wanted to expand to the south which caused resistence from the swiss. The swiss didn‘t fight the empire but specificly the habsburg to avoid absorbtion which would cause loosing autonomy and privleges. The HRE emporer was actually in the favor of the swiss against the habsburg because the habsburg were competitors to the throne. The date 1291 is basicly random there were multiple treaties between the ancient swiss core. In central switzerland the 1315 birthdate of switzerland was commonly mentioned until the early 20th century. (You can even see it on the Tell Monument in Altstadt) The reason 1291 was choosen was because the city of bern was established in xx91 and therefore both switzerland and the city of berne „birthdate“ could be celebrated the same year…saving costs. No. I‘m not joking that‘s the reason why see the 1291 charter as the birthdate of switzerland.

Funny you mentioned it. I have some video of me on the Danish trains and loving it. Theres a little bit in this video I think too. Its the one with the greyish seats. I wasn't on the Danish train long enough to talk much about it. But I still may stick what I have in a video somewhere soon. Thanks for commenting, my friend.❤️
