I think I narrowed the tape down to 1995, when I hitchhiked up to Seattle

I lost many dear people , but lived a full life . I miss them all . So many od's , car accidents and even quite a few self inficted . Its is bittersweet my friend . Im 60 now , and have no friends left . A few acquaintances . Dads gone , mom h a s dementia and alzhimers . I do have a wife & adult children , so im blessed in that way . My whole life i made friendships and built crews . Now , i have nothing to do . Work on farm , watch the birds . Listen to The Plastic Ono band . Peace , from Cass County Michigan ! Wolverine State !

I'm so sorry to hear about all the films and stuff you lost in a house fire. I've gone through losing everything I owned to housefires twice in my life, first at 13, then a few months ago at 23. That's a terrible pain to go through that no one deserves. You have a wonderfully positive outlook on things though. Stay a young soul, man. 🧡

Me too man I just acquired a huge box of records, tapes, 8 tracks and VHS and I don't want to deal with it because most of it sucks. But it's worth going through

Okay I'm definitely not as stoic as you lol. It broke my heart a little bit when you said you couldn't remember your dad's or some of your friends' voices

I made a cassette recording right before I deployed from Germany to Iraq in 1989. I was 25 years old. I had a lot of trepidations and thought I might not come back. I sent it to my parents. I got the tape (my mom gave it to me after my dad died) and have never listened to it. Never will. I will admit that I was scared because I was a medic in the 3ID and knew I was gonna be in combat.

I noticed that I sometimes drift in and out of periods of nostalgia. Usually it's one or two days drifting into it. I realised it's usually a pre-cursor to feeling depressed. Now I spot it and stop myself

I bought a Bolex camera from a thrift store. There is a tape in it about half recorded.

I am obsessed with lost media, as well as lost/discontinued products, channels, brands, etc. To me, it's our right and maybe even our obligation to preserve the things of the past. People have differing criteria for what counts as "lost media", ranging from media whose production was ceased midway through, to all media not publicly available on the internet. I'm very much at the latter end of the spectrum--I think all media that could be distributed as a file via the internet, ought to be. That's the main point of the internet to me, ending media scarcity. I also think all the media we have lost is a tragic loss, whether it's the charred scrolls from the library of Alexandria, an obscure show from the early 2000s Travel Channel, or a youtube video that was removed by the censorious platform or by an over-bullied creator themselves. We need more media preservationists! EDIT: I don't mean any of this to suggest that I'm in any way against keeping and using physical media or your right to create personal media that isn't meant for anyone else. And I agree that there is something special to a piece of media that only exists in that one instance, but I think you oughtta have a personal backup somewhere just in case of another disaster. idk. Maybe I'm just not as ready to be as stoic as you are lol.

Many of us lived in a time when we did fun stuff and questionable things. We have met people and done things most have not. The only record of that would be our memories and the few who archive stuff. The modern generation takes a picture of a meal and has to share it with everyone. The memories and the nostalgia are gone when everyone has a record of everything.

And for anyone asking why I never got the pictures developed, well I was always pretty broke. Getting it developed back then was like 5 to 10 bucks a roll...which was a lot for me, but today Nobody Does it anymore so the price is outrageous. I'm hoping I can find somebody that is into film development that I can have them help me out with developing all the rolls at once A lot of them might be blurry or not come out, but it's worth a shot. I'm one nostalgic mofo, I'm weird like that

I used to work in a photo lab. Just pay for development only and do NOT get a kid or someone without lots of experience developing any black and white rolls or they may f those up. That way you can view the slides and pick which you want developed. If any of those don't come out well, toss them and don't pay for those. We understood people who have a tight budget!
