Come with us on a wild trek into the jungle on the hunt for amazing QLD mining history. This mission was no joke. We were equipped with pin point accurate KML/GPX mapping pins after some extensive research and previous field work in this location, but this mountain range is unforgiving. We battled countless enormous spiders, numerous snakes and unrelenting heat and jungle as we embarked on the hunt for the elusive upper Phoenix Reef gold mines. We find a high grade stope not referenced on any maps and find a long lost lower adit on the second day. Two of our crew suffered from serious heat stroke the evening after this adventure, relegating this mountain range to a winter only expedition category. On the day we set of my pack was 22kg full of the best 4k cameras, lights, mic kits, water and food rations. At one stage i was not sure i would actually make it off the mountain.
