Imagine Jungkook texted you to meet him in the stadium and when you got there, it's all dark. Suddenly the light on the stage turned on and he sings this.
He was there again, the boy. You'd always pass by the community event hall after school, and every single day at five since the semester had started he'd be there, singing all to himself. For the life of you you couldn't bring yourself to go over there and see who he actually is but would always stand there and linger, listening to his beautiful voice. Maybe it was a little cliche and probably something to be expected but you kind of liked him. Actually, it was quite the growing crush but you couldn't bring yourself to admit that- after all, how can one fall for just someone's voice? Were your feelings just infatuation? Were they real? Determined, you took a step towards the building, then another and another. You didn't realize it but you started running. Weeks you've spent pining outside the hall, curious but shyness overruling you; what happened? Where did the sudden adrenaline come from? On most days you barely move an inch out of the usual school-home-home-school route and don't move an inch off the couch on weekends, but now you're actually showing some sort of physical activity. You weren't too sure if it was fueled by your coalescing feeling of frustration at not being brave enough and of this weird liking for the guy but you knew one thing- You had to know. Just one look, one look would change everything, you were sure of it. All your feelings would come to light and you'd finally at least be able to see who he is. As you reached the closed double doors you slowed down, cautiously opening one of them you stepped in. There he was. Just a few feet in front of you was a tall boy, seated on a high stool with a guitar perched on his lap. He's in plainclothes- a simple pair of light jeans and a navy hoodie over striped long-sleeves- despite it being a school day and he was still playing, having not noticed you. His expression is soulful, eyes closed in concentration and eyebrows brought together in earnest, and he's singing from the bottom of his heart. Your heart swayed. His notes were flawless but that's not what got you; it's how you can feel from your very core that the notes he's hitting, the chords he's playing- are all his raw emotion. He's playing for himself, not for others, playing to look at his feelings and confront them. You just happened to be there. It sounded so sad, as if he's struggling with something, but he sang with the hope that he could get through whatever it is he's dealing with. _We're all lost stars, trying to light up the dark_ he ended and hung his head. Without really noticing it you started clapping, and he looked up, seeing you. You grinned and stared into his eyes, admiring their dark brown color shining under the lights. "If you need help, I'm here," was what escaped your mouth before anything. He started crying. Out of instinct you ran towards him, but paused awkwardly by his side when you got there, putting a hand on one of his trembling shoulders. "Why...are you crying?" You asked, not knowing what to do. "I- I don't know," he said quietly, his previously strong voice shaky with sobs. "Well, um, it's okay if you cry," you said, reassuring him. You weren't lying. Crying helped a lot, you believed, in helping with problems. It usually makes people relieve their stress, and you wanted more than anything for him to feel better. And so you stood there, patting his back softly while his tears kept falling. You felt weird, really; you never thought meeting him would be this intense. Maybe once you were best friends this would've been more feasible but that milestone was months ahead. Nevertheless you stayed, waiting until he felt okay enough to talk. "I'm sorry about that," he mumbled after, voice raspy from crying, bowing his head. "We just met and I did this kind of thing..." You shook your head. "I don't mind," you said, then smiled, "I hope you're feeling better now. I always feel better after a good cry." He grinned back, lips parted to reveal the cutest smile showing his two front teeth. It kind of reminded you of a bunny. "Actually I do, th-thanks for being there," he replied, then turned his eyes elsewhere, pink dusting his cheeks and his hand on his nape. He's probably embarrassed that you saw him cry, which is understandable. You thought your crying face looked messy too. But his, you feel weird for thinking this, looked pretty; his tears were glittering under the stage light. "I don't mean to intrude," you said and he looked up at you again, "but why were you crying?" With a sheepish chuckle he glanced to the side, the pink on his cheeks turning red. I was just going through a bunch of BTS songs in empty stadiums/arenas and it's so hard going through them all and not playing the entire song but I just, I physically couldn't skip this one. It has such a special place in my heart because it's one of the songs I played for comfort when my grandma died
sad confession time: i used to listen to this when i would read sad/upsetting stories- which, at that time of my life, were the only things that kept me going. i used to be extremely depressed; i would spend my days hurting myself and crying for hours on end, i saw absolutely nothing in my future; hate wasn't a strong enough word to describe how much i despised myself. but this song and those stories, as silly as it sounds, kept me going. to some people this song may mean nothing more than a few strums on a guitar, but to others it may be a lifeline. today i'm slowly recovering but things have gotten so much better, i don't slice my skin open anymore, slowly but surely i'm beginning to leave my house more and beginning to hold my head up a little higher in public, if at least one person is reading this, whether you're going through a rough time right now or not, know that you are beautiful and you are worth so much more than you believe. things WILL get better, i promise. if anybody ever needs a shoulder to cry on or a friend to talk to don't ever hesitate to send me a message. i hope everyone has an amazing day, i love you.
