I was very proud to have made this film that allowed the former residents of Bothwellhaugh to voice their memories of the village. Now that I'm a professional in television there's so much I'd do differently from my old college days however this was in many ways the crowning achievement in college that year and I'm very proud of the journey I went on making this and all the wonderful people I met whilst developing and filming it. It's hard to believe that it will be a decade next year since I first pitched, filmed and spoke to the BBC amongst others and it taught me a lot about the industry and actually did help shape the successful career I have now.

Brilliant film. There was another one on in the 1990’s BBC Scotland but this one is far better and more accurate.

I was born August 23,1938 at #10 Clyde Street, Bothwellhaugh Scotland. I now live in Chattanooga, Tennessee. My mother's name maiden name was Jane Dowie Robertson. I am still in touch with my mother's family who now live in Bellshill or close by.

+William Coulter My dad was born 11th June 1938 in the post office. My great grandmother was the midwife, so theres a good chance she delivered you into the world. The family address was Clyde street, although my gran and granddad had moved to East Lothian, they went back to Bothwellhaugh for his birth as apparently they had to pay for GPs and midwives in those days....

I moved to Bothwellhaugh when I married and lived at 14 Raith Place ,home of my in-laws the Macfarlane's. They emigrated to Canada in 1948 and my husband Struther and I ,formerly May McLaren, and our son also Struther, followed them in 1952. I still correspond with my husband's cousin Elizabeth Fox who lives in Uddingston and whose parents also lived in the village.

It was great to see this film, I was only born about 5yrs before Bothwehaugh came to its end, but my granda grew up there and his parents were residents there for many years, although my granda left long before the end, but my mums aunt lived there till she died, I always remember my mum talking about going to see her at the Pailis,

How pleasing to know that this horrible place is now history; this commentary is complete and utter tosh! My Mother and her twin sister still have very vivid dark memories of living at 30 Raith Place, Bothwellhaugh before the Second World War. Their Step-Father, David McAleese had managed to get management job at the nearby Pallis Mine, owned by the Duke of Hamilton, and so had moved there with his wife Bridget and the twins. On Thursday the 27th of January 1938, ("Burn's night") David lost his job: simply because he and the family were Catholic. A fact that David had stayed quite about, because of the sectarianism at Bothwellhaugh: it was an "Orange village." That cold and dark night this so called "friendly and good community" came to the door and evicted my family onto the street; whilst others crowded around, watched and jeered. A village and mine owned by the Duke of Hamilton; an admirer and pro-Fascist friend of Hitler, whose deputy, Rudolf Hess flew to see in May 1941 in the hope of getting his help in getting Britain to pull out of the war. A senior Scottish shit of questionable trust and taste in politics; much reflected by the Bothwellhaugh brethren employed by him. I'm so glad it's been raised to the ground and flooded; it's a shame those bully Billy boy bastards didn't suffer the same fate!

Why hasn't BBC Scotland done a full blown documentary on this???? There must be hundreds of places like this in Scotland.

Hi there the BBC actually screened a version of events regarding the village in the early 2000's. That was ultimately what ruled out a commission for this version.
