@RU-vid Comment You can argue about the movies being faithful too the books all day long, and they aren’t 100% faithful, because they can’t be. It would not result in good movies to do that. But they did a damn good job capturing the feeling of the books, and they are masterpieces even if they would have been a standalone project My only gripe with the movies, more specifically this intro, is the filmmakers not including the three way duel between Sauron, Gil-Galad and Elendil. They made Elendil look like a wimp in this scene, when in the books he’s a beast, 7 feet tall and able to go toe to toe with a maiar spirit

I love the symbolism here. The Elves held their gifts out at face height, respecting their ring's power as equals not seeking to ascend higher, a gesture of humility. The Dwarves held their rings high above them as if to symbolize praise and reverence for their power, something to aspire to- a gesture of amazement. Whereas the Kings of Men lowered their rings, looking "down" on them, as if to symbolize such power wasn't enough, or it was already beneath their ambitions as they sought dominion "above" all else. A gesture of arrogance. My interpretation anyway.

@seanmcclintock773

This interpretation kinda supports mine. I feel we are hearing a story from the point of view of the elfs that were betrayed by men. Like how they give themsevles the most praise, still give dwarfs a compliment but completely insult men by basically saying they desire power over peace. Then if you see the events you can even say that there downplaying iseldor defeating suaron by making it look more like a last desperate chance at self defense then like a herioc duel or something else to make a good story

It began with the forging of the great films. Threads were given by Tolkien, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Rights were granted to Jackson, great miner and craftsman of the mountain of lore. And nine, nine hours were gifted to the race of men, who above all else, desire quality. But they were all of them deceived, for another show was made. In the land of Amazon, in the fires of Mount Prime, the Dark Lord Bezos forged in secret a master flop. And into this show he poured his money, his greed and his will to dominate all film. One show to ruin them all.

Fun fact: this prologue was apparently originally written to be narrated by Frodo! Elijah Wood even did a recording. But then the filmmakers decided that this part had little bearing on Frodo's story, and tried Ian McKellen as Gandalf instead. They decided THAT wasn't right either, so they settled on Cate Blanchett as Galadriel. Although she was OBVIOUSLY the right choice to narrate, I think it would be extremely interesting to hear Elijah and Sir Ian's recordings. Just to see what could have been. I wish they'd release them on the internet.

@Mr. Al she along with Cirdan are probably the oldest living beings in middle Earth at this point in time. Galadriel was born in Valinor before the sun and moon were created, she lived when the 2 trees of Valinor were the source of light in Arda. The light of those 2 trees are said to have been caught in her golden hair giving her an angelic hue. Feanor even got inspiration from Galadriel's hair when he created the Silmarils. She definitely knows more about Sauron and his path to evil more than any of the Wizards. They had only been in Middle Earth for roughly 300 years leading to this story, Galadriel's time spans thousands, including 3 ages in Beleriand until it's destruction caused by the final fight to cast Morgoth out of Arda. And another 3 ages in Middle Earth. It's fitting that she would be the narrator... She has seen a lot in her lifespan.

@@urbanstreet_4282 you do realize there was an animated film before Peter Jackson's trilogy, right? So by your own logic, wouldn't you be suggesting that everyone who saw the animated film before the trilogy would view that film as the ideal casting and portrayal? Your argument, while I can understand the nostalgia argument and it does have some weight, still ultimately falls shorts. I can't possibly think of an objective argument to suggest that the casting in RoP is anywhere near as good as Peter Jackson's, especially when it comes to the elves. The original trilogy gives off ethereal vibes for the elves. That's sorely lacking in RoP where Galadriel's actress comes off as an insufferable modern feminist, not a graceful and ethereal immortal being.

yes, I noticed that too, like for example the numenoreans armor just looks cheap, some of them, like the scale mails around the joints ( shoulder) beneath the arm pit and so on are actually printed fabric LoL.... which are just look ridiculous, considering how expensive the show really is. It does show how lazy their production/custome design team is. PJ LoTR custome design team spent more time and resources in making realistic armor like the plate armor and chain mails at a fraction of the cost if you compare it to 1 Billion dollars Amazon RoP dumpster fire. Take for example, Kayne Horsham's who's the art director of LoTR trilogy. He was tasked to create realistic chainmails that didn't render the actors immobile under its weight, so he and his team did that by hand assembled, silver -coated plastic rings - 80,000 of them per shirt. Each took about 6 weeks to produce and the end result was amazing, it does look like real chain mails. Each of those ring pieces are interwoven by hand. You could see the love, passion and care put into this. no wonder they won 17 oscars from the Academy and one of them are in Custome design category. it is such a huge difference in quality if you compare PJ LotR vs Amazon RoP.

@heavybattle6650 7 месяцев назад
@@zonesquestiloveunderworld Yeah, I've seen it and you are right, the scale is huge and the fact that they used all those actual extras and practical effects is incredible. TLTR: But the emotional impact of the whole battle was quite flat in my personal opinion. It played out more like a video game battle from the Total War series, there were very few close ups of soldiers in the middle of the battle, actually very few tight shots of actual combat. Horses and men were dropping but these shots were too impersonal and in places - they looked rather fake. One shot would depict gunfire or cannon fire and then another would simply show horses falling and men dropping and I just could feel the link between the shots that were fired and the victims. There was very little bite in my opinion in that battle but maybe it was a question of technical limitations at the time. Some of the great things that modern directors of epic battles did like Mel Gibson, Ridley Scott and Peter Jackson was that they blended scale with very powerful close ups of soldiers within the very center of the battle. That was definitely missing from Waterloo in my opinion, the impact of the combat face to face and on the face of the people surviving and killing.

The only (note: ONLY) thing I'd add here would be the death of Gil-galad (the king of the elves, seen at 2:35). It would look something like this: after Sauron kills Elendil and Isildur runs to him, Gil-galad moves to face Sauron. But (potentially after a brief fight) the Dark Lord grabs him with his ring-bearing hand, lifts him up, and burns him to a crisp. In the books it is implied something like that happened, and it would explain why Sauron would try to grab Isildur a few moments later instead of just crushing him with his mace.

My favorite part of this monologue is, "in the gloom of Gollum's cave, it waited. Darkness crept back into the forests of the world, rumor grew of a shadow in the East. Whispers of a nameless fear, and the ring of power perceived, it's time, had now come." Chills and goosebumps every time I hear it.

Throughout the entire trilogy, the original score by Howard Shore is just... a one-of-a-kind masterpiece

I remember watching this movie as a kid. For me the most horrifying creature wasn't Sauron or the orcs it was the Nazguls. They gave me some nightmares.😱😱

Notice how RoP 01 started with a battle narrated by "Galadriel", went on to a snowy mountain climb, then had a battle with a Troll?.... like they basically ape'd fellowship's initial beats on fast forward with less quality lol.

Hugo Weaving’s slight eye twitch while giving commands as the arrow flies by is one of the coolest acting moments for me. I think it personifies the badassery of Elrond so much. The elf has seen sooo much combat in his time.
