Another 60 feet of track laid for the homemade narrow gauge railway. I think it looks pretty good - and so straight!

Tim, one thing i have to say - i love the track, the general idea of your railway, how you set it up and so on.. but why did you run after the wagon instead of sitting on it and rolling along, for a proper test? :D

From what you are saying with pre things to do one of them could be driving the pins and setting the fish plates on the sleepers, all as a pre-curser to laying anything on the ground.. Then all you have to do when ready to build is to lay them down and set the rails.. Keeping the pre hubub as pre work. CCHHEERRSSSSS ........It all looks like so much FUN....!!!!!!!!!!!!

2:51 the woodblocks that got stacked onto each other sounded like Lego bricks being put together. Also in the end when the flatbed ran away i thought; "Look out for the Train!" , some person said that in the background of "Thomas and the Trucks" from Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends. I'm very happy to see that the railway is being built on again.

For your engine, one problem could be the gradient that you have. And thinking about ways to fix the traction problem I though about the rack railways, some are still around. But this is hard to set up. But than I remember that we had chain boats, that could be “cheap” and easy a solution. A chain that just lays in between the rails, in the curve just extend some sleepers and ad vertical pipes so that the chain stays somewhat near the rails. Or add pipes for the chain to lay in between. For pulling on the chain look at anchor winches.

That is a lot of work per meter of rail. In the late 1800 and early 1900 there was a type of railway that was cast iron with ties and everything in the same casting. The cast iron ties was hollow and each segment was really not that heavy. It was used pretty much like a modern day model railway kit and could be assembled in minutes. The system was in heavy used during WWI to transport artillery shells from mainline railway to the front

@matsv201
@matsv201 2 года назад
@@wayoutwest-workshopstuff6299 well yea.. I get yout point. There is actually other system that might be simpler. For example a lot of pree steam (and some post) simply had woden rails screwed to the ties. Also using quite thin ties, then just put a metal strip ontop of then wood. This was back when Steel and even iron was quite expensive...of cause, now wood is also expensive, so it might not be cheaper, but it is probobly faster.
